Sarah Palin’s Morning In America Is A Sunset In Reverse

These are the hazards of buying public stock footage. Here is Sarah Palin’s new pat-on-the-back election video. At 36 seconds, she says, “This is our morning in America,” as an apparent orange sunrise is shown behind the Statue of Liberty.

That stock footage is for sale here, for $45. It is called “Time Lapse–Sunset behind Statue of Liberty.”

Obama’s Persuasive Powers on Gay Marriage Manifest in Maryland

When President Obama endorsed gay marriage earlier this month, the media grappled with two basic political questions: Was his personal “evolution” a case of  a politician transparently following a national trend toward accepting same-sex unions (accelerated, perhaps, by his chatty number two), and would it hurt his re-election chances by alienating socially conservative voters like black churchgoers? Sure, there was a recognition that it marked a gratifying moment for gay marriage advocates—as well as some grumbling about the President’s view that it remains a state issue, not a federal one. But by and large, there were few suggestions that one man, even the President, would shift public opinion on the issue or affect public policy. Based on a new Public Policy Polling survey out of Maryland, it seems this possibility was underestimated.

Apparently, Massachusetts voters don’t mind that Elizabeth Warren foolishly identified herself as a Native American early in her academic career–it was, apparently, a case of family pride and wishful thinking about a Cherokee ancestor. • bryanfromhouston

Oh my, where to begin? First, let me say that I am excited that another party is going to have a chance to try to run this country. I am curious to find out their ideas….beyond repealing healthcare reform and deregulation. You see, we tried just allowing health care costs to be market regulated and they went up unsustainably. We tried deregulation under Reagan/Bush/Clinton/Bush and we got several market crashes, a whole bunch of empty houses, mortgage fraud – both consumer / banks, and general unemployment, the likes of which not seen since the Great Depression. So, I want to see what the answer and solution is…and if I hear anything more about sticking together, rugged individualism, or fostering an environment to make business competitive without specifics…I am buying property in Canada, going to stop voting and just retire there. Because if in two years, we go back to the Dems in full control of the house because nothing was done….this country will have collectively become clinically insane. I think I can speak safely for most independents in saying that such a situation will prove hopeless. But I hope not.

  • liberalmeltdown

We Canadians already think your country has collectively gone clinically insane. I still think my favorite stat is that apparently, I pay less taxes than an American making my salary (and that’s true at every tax bracket), but somehow America brings in less federal revenues per capita than Canada. Oh, and you’re spending a good 15% more than us per capita and are unable to provide universal health care, a fully functional and globally competitive education system, reasonably priced universities, a fully functional retirement plan, and a fully regulated financial sector that had 0 bank failures or bailouts during this recession (shocking stat of the week, we only had two bank failures during the 80s and before that, not one since 1923). Huh….

    Palin: The Opposite of Stupid
    John Podhoretz – 11.04.2010 – 1:50 PM

    Sarah Palin in National Review:

The meaning of the 2010 election was rebuke, reject, and repeal. We rebuked Washington’s power grab, rejected this unwanted “fundamental transformation of America,” and began the process to repeal the dangerous policies inflicted on us. But this theme will only complement the theme of 2012, which is renew, revive, and restore. In 2012, we need to renew our optimistic, pioneering spirit, revive our free-market system, and restore constitutional limits and our standing in the world as the abiding beacon of freedom.

This political formulation is — I use the word advisedly — brilliant.

“This political formulation is — I use the word advisedly — brilliant.”
    .
Pretty, yes, brilliant no. It’s word salad. With as much calories behind it. Compare that to Reagan (regardless if you agree in his politics) – he could both put ideas on the table and put it in eloquent words.

  • np042

Buzz words are all fine and dandy, but what do you actually intend to do to accomplish any of those goals? What “fundamental transformation of America?” The only one I see is going from a government of “We, the People” to “They, the Corporations.” Beyond that, the only fundamental change seems to be from the eyes of the fundametalists who want to go back to the happy-go-lucky days of the 50′s.
    .
Additionally, I highly doubt anything will be truly repealed. Beyond the nigh impossibility of doing anything useful with just one house of Congress, Rusty declared yesterday he wanted to leave ACA in to remind everyone of how horrible a piece of legislature it was, (I believe he termed it the worst ever, which is highly debatable) and shows a blatant disregard for what is best for the American people as a whole.

Whether she stays active or not, is not really her choice. All she got is $$’s, a facebook page and a twitter account. In short, she is a reality TV star created by the media pundits.

But there is such a thing as shelf life. If she does not run for president, the media will quickly abandon her and move on to the next squirrel (Christine O’Donnell looks promising).

Sarah will go the way of Colin Powell, who flirted with running for president, was a huge media star for a time, until he announced he had no intention of running. As soon as it was known for certain he wasn’t running, the media tired of him, and his followers tired of him pretty quickly. Sister Sarah will continue to command attention until she announces she’s not running in 2012, or until she runs and is soundly defeated.

  • rdw56

    Why?

How is it anyone captures the imagination of the public as she has? She is every bit as charismatic as Obama with a far more interesting background. I don’t want her to run for President yet I think she’s smart, savvy, great looking, funny and has a gift for driving liberals wild and none moreso that the feminist and elitist snobs. How cool is it that the MSM snobs have been pounding her relentlessly for two years and she’s become very wealthy and a major political player in that time.

Joe has enough sense that he knows for the bile he hurls her way he can’t hurt her and may even help her.

Here’s a great and true story we all know about that indicates why she is so popular. She goes to NYC during the world series and with her 9-yr old daughter goes to a game. David letterman that might tells a cruel and shockingly classless joke about A-rod having sex with her daughter during the 7th inning stretch. The audience laughs. This is NYC do it’s a liberal audience. You’re not going to expect class or taste. But it goes viral and it’s a big story. Letterman gets a major blowback but he doesn’t get it. Palin demand an apology and after two nghts gives the classic non-apology apology which Palin does not accept but she leaves it along, Letterman is still getting all kinds of pushback for being such a scumbag and after nearly a week gives an authentic, real apology. Palin accepts and says it’s over.

The cool thing about that is the MSM tried to cover for Letterman as did the usual hollywood smucks and Palin, without a staff or team of media advisors, stood her ground, said what she thought about what kind of man Letterman was slimming a 9-yr old girl, and let it stand at that. I admire her for every aspect of that exchange. It took Letterman almost a week to man-up. Too his credit, after 5 days of pathetic, he did man up. It was one of the most sincere apologies I’ve ever seen.

This is a lady with savvy, instincts, courage, common sense and is just plain nice.

  • rdw56

Colin Powell disappeared because he proved the peter principal. He reached his level of incompetence. He also proved to be a bit of a coward. His top aid Richard Armitage leaked the name of Valerie Plame to Robert Novak. Both knew it. Rove and Libby were accused and suffered great expense defending themselves for a year and libby got in trouble for misleading the investigators. Powell stabbed both me and the entire bush administration in the back by remaining silent during an un-necessary year long investigation. Powell was clearly in over his head. His job in planning the Iraqi invasion planning was to secure UN support as well as access to allied turkey as a launch site. The French stabbed him in the back and the turks turned him down at the last minute.

  • maverick2k9

rdw56, your ode to the quitter-in-chief cum reality TV star is just brilliant! Have you thought about a career as a Fox New contributor?

Wow, a garbled analysis from 2thirdsrocks

    - And rdw56, Rove leaked the name, and Libby took the fall. Please explain what personal money Rove spent “defending” himself.

As for Powell, he was the only one that we know of in that administration who displayed any shred of honor. As soon as he knew he was snookered by the neocons he pulled out of the swamp.

He presented the “evidence” he was given by the neocons to attempt to prove the Bush justification for invading Iraq. He failed – because the “evidence” was hokum, and the other UN nations knew it.

The French, among many other nations, did not believe that Saddam’s Iraq presented a clear & present danger, necessitating a massive military invasion – with no backup plan for civil administration, protection of government property, use of defeated Iraqui army & police forces to keep order, etc.

This was not Powell’s fault. You’re blaming him because you don’t want to put the blame where it belongs.

  • rdw56

” Rove leaked the name, and Libby took the fall. Please explain what personal money Rove spent “defending” himself”

Richard Armitage leaked the name and he never owned up to it until the case was over and Novak threatened to break his deal since he was immune from prosecution. Rove was investigated and never charged. He never mentioned plames name to Novak. Novak made it clear it was Armitage and that he was disgusted with both Armitage and Powell for their treachery. They could have ended this before it started.

BTW: Powell is in the very odd position of being a registered republican and reviled by Conservatives. This is the only blot on his career but it’s huge. Bush and Cheney are GOP rock stars.

  • rdw56

The French, among many other nations, did not believe that Saddam’s Iraq presented a clear & present danger, necessitating a massive military invasion – with no backup plan for civil administration, protection of government property, use of defeated Iraqui army & police forces to keep order, etc.

rdw- can’t imagine why you think this is important but the French did confirm Saddam was trying to reconstitute his weapons programs. I’ve never understood why liberals think it’s important to get French approval for our decisions. it’s so weak. Man up!

  • rdw56

“What if he stops talking about her anymore?’

Well considering he humiliates himself when he does talk about her shouldn’t he leave her alone? Palin is a mover and shaker as well as a celebrity. She sells. They don’t talk about her to do her the favor of publicity.

The joke was about the 9-yr old daughter and it was well beyond sleezy. Why liberals think it’s OK to go after someone’s kids is beyond me but it’s one reason why the term liberal has become a liability. It’s why Hillary calls herself a progressive. Obama refuse to mention the term during his campaign .

Sarah’s skill was in making Letterman twist in the wind until he did the right thing. How is it this brilliant, successful, media savvy liberal gets crushed by the rube from Alaska. In terms of just media tactics and ‘crises’ management she absolutely, positively kicked his ass. I think he took 5 days before he ended his misery.

Every single day it was out there Letterman called an innocent 9-yr old girl a slut on national TV and his liberal audience laughed. What do you think sane people thought about that? Now ABC didn’t play the clip but Drudge did. Fox did. The liberal press can no longer protect liberal scumbags. It took Dave 5 days to realize he was bleeding. He was getting killed. He looked like a pedafile.

You have to agree, it’s shocking how the Alaskan rube so thoroughly outsmarted the slick NYC liberal icon. Isn’t it?
    Yeah, she’s stupid.

    13.1 & 14 -

Rove lied.. For a rundown of the Bush admin. crooks who perpetrated the outrage:
    http://thinkprogress.org/leak-scandal/

You say, “French did confirm Saddam was trying to reconstitute his weapons programs.”

False: “Both the French intelligence service and the CIA paid Sabri hundreds of thousands of dollars (at least $200,000 in the case of the CIA) to give them documents on Saddam’s WMD programs. “The information detailed that Saddam may have wished to have a program, that his engineers had told him they could build a nuclear weapon within two years if they had fissile material, which they didn’t, and that they had no chemical or biological weapons,” one of the former CIA officers told me.”

    http://www.salon.com/news/opinion/blumenthal/2007/09/06/bush_wmd

You say, “I’ve never understood why liberals think it’s important to get French approval for our decisions. it’s so weak. Man up!”

Nobody said liberals want or need French approval for “our decisions”. It was you people who were so pissed off at France for not rubber stamping Bush’s invasion of a sovereign country with little or no justification that you excoriated everything French – refusing to buy French cheese, renaming “french fries” as “freedom fries” (even though they originated in Belgium), and pooh-poohing the massive French contributions of treasure, arms, soldiers, and navy to the American Revolutionay War (which led directly to the British defeat).

    http://people.csail.mit.edu/sfelshin/saintonge/frhist.html

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/France_in_the_American_Revolutionary_War

Your arguments are so weak. Man up!
