Sarah Palin Continues To Run Away From 2012

The money quote of the trailer for Sarah Palin’s new TLC reality show is “I’d rather be doing this than in some stuffy old political office. I’d rather be out here being free.”

Either Sarah Palin has a poll that says Americans really want to elect a president who would rather be fishing, or the woman is not running for president. These are not the utterances of a serious would-be candidate for the highest office in the land.

Her show will be airing on the same network as DC Cupcakes, Sextuplets Take New York, Toddlers & Tiaras, Sister Wives, BBQ Pitmasters and Say Yes To The Dress. The show debut is set for Sunday, Nov. 14, in the current Sister Wives time slot.

Obama’s Persuasive Powers on Gay Marriage Manifest in Maryland

When President Obama endorsed gay marriage earlier this month, the media grappled with two basic political questions: Was his personal “evolution” a case of  a politician transparently following a national trend toward accepting same-sex unions (accelerated, perhaps, by his chatty number two), and would it hurt his re-election chances by alienating socially conservative voters like black churchgoers? Sure, there was a recognition that it marked a gratifying moment for gay marriage advocates—as well as some grumbling about the President’s view that it remains a state issue, not a federal one. But by and large, there were few suggestions that one man, even the President, would shift public opinion on the issue or affect public policy. Based on a new Public Policy Polling survey out of Maryland, it seems this possibility was underestimated.

Poor Sarah. She has tried everything to prove she isn’t serious about running for president. Even aptly demostrating that she is not qualified, but the media is just not buying.

As someone who gets her news exclusively from Fox and other right-wing media outlets, she believes the world is going to end in 2012, with the end of the Mayan calendar, so why not grab as much money as she can now, and party it up for the last 2 years of the earth’s existence?

I can’t believe Michael is being sarcastic toward the leader of the Republican party. If he doesn’t watch out they will be comparing him to Frum.

These are not the utterances of a serious would-be candidate for the highest office in the land.
    .
I don’t see how this is any different than anything else she’s said. It’s more of that “look at me, I’m homespun” stuff she usually says.
    .
She’s an opportunistic grifter, and if the chance to run comes up she’ll take it — if only to make her “brand” more bankable. But she’s not going to plan a run, because planning — or deep thought of any kind — isn’t her strong suit. She prattles on with whatever pops in her venal, vacuous head to make her seem more “genuine” and to disguise her rage at not getting what she thinks she’s due, but it doesn’t mean anything — it’s all a performance. (Literally — dude, she’s on a TV show, which means she’s performing.) Content (and veracity) doesn’t mean anything to her, so why should it mean anything to us?
    .
Obviously, this content-free post by Mr. Scherer shows it means something to him. But whether that’s due to genuine fascination or desire for hit counts I couldn’t say. But I wish the media in general would let this low-wattage Elmer Gantry fall into the obscurity she so richly deserves. But I guess that won’t happen until her looks fade.

This is no statement on qualifications or anything, but as soon as McCain selected her, she was a serious candidate for a higher office, if even for a brief time.

The show is already in the can, genius. She’s hardly going to be filming in Alaskan winter. She’ll run if she likes, this show can only help her.

  • Ivy_B

I can’t believe I’m admitting this, but when the Situation left Dancing with the Stars, he had on an open shirt and he wiggled his pecs alternately – comparable to wiggling ears. I tried to do it myself – it’s the alternately that makes it hard. Seven years of bench pressing has made this little feat possible for me, but it is going to take work. :-)

  • kevin

I heard the show is scheduled for 24 episodes, but Palin stops doing them after 10.

  • http://teacherreaderwriter.wordpress.com/ Shakespeare in GA

She’ll run if she likes, this show can only help her.

    Help her with whom?
    .
And the idea isn’t that filming the TV show would take her away from precious campaigning time. The idea is that this TV show doesn’t exactly show her in a presidential light. It’s fine for her to make it–more power to her. And Alaska looks beautiful. But it looks so staged, so “I’m a homespun grizzly mama!” kind of thing. It’s propaganda.
    .
If Barack Obama had made a TV show called “Barack Obama’s Chicago” in 2006, and uttered lines like “Who wants to be stuck in some stuffy old political office when I could be eating deep dish on Lakeshore Drive?”, do you think he would have been taken so seriously as a presidential candidate?

Gov. Sarah Palin’s TLC show will be a super-hit with real Americans, who already regard the Palins as America’s First Family.

  • sassysticks53

Palin had the nerve to bash Michelle Obama about patriotism, when her husband Todd was part of a group that wants to seceed from the United States? Palin can’t carry Michelle Obama’s panty hose. .
Her fifteen minutes of fame are long expired. She’ll milk this dry and get every dollar from viewers like you she can and vanish into oblivion by 2016.

We really don’t need to be the RW version of people haters.
    .
Sarah is not a idiot. Just clueless of what America is about. She don’t know her own ideology. She knows talking points yes, but like the ignorant people shouting communism and socialism, she don’t know squat about details. That’s why she had to read talking points off her hand and why people who like her found that so genuine. Because they too can’t articulate their ideology, only the stuff they hear that somehow tingle them somehow.

Right now I think there is sufficient evidence that the majority of Americans are very happy with what Sarah Palin is doing at present; it was a nice try from you to create a diversion but it won’t wash.

I mean, should any Republican now announce to run in 2012 they won’t know who they will be running against. Please don’t tell me they will be running against Obama in 2012! His on his last run right now, isn’t he? Do you really want to tell me that He will be the 2012 Dem Candidate?

Come off it and get real, man.

    .
So, don’t let what will probably be a thin Republican majority in 2010 in the house go to your head.
    .
If the Republican Pledge and Tea Party candidates are half as much of a disaster as the 1994 Contract on America was – but during an economic slump rather than in boom times – the concept of returning to an all Republican government as we had from 2003 through 2007 is not going to happen for decades to come.

Palin is just a small town sportscaster who learned, as Reagan did, to read scripts filled with talking points with feeling and gusto as if it had meaning and, if it did, Reagan or Palin would know what that meaning is.

That’s got to be my favorite hallow phrase. If somebody had lied, there has to be a follow through with what they said that was not true. The circus trained dancing grizzlies don’t know how to explain who lied nor about what, but get a real adrenalin rush out of saying “You LIED!”.

Oh my, foxy Sarah strolls by the hen house again and listen to the uproar. I have never heard so much cackling in all my life. She has proven to be the catalyst in exploding the progressive myth and oh, how this infuriates the left. You fall all over yourselves in derision, accuse her of lacking your self perceived superior intelligence, but I ask you this….name one person on your side of the table who attracts as much attention and media coverage. She wins, hands down, so who is the smart one here? William Allen White once wrote: “I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and love today” Give ‘em hell, Sarah!

  • Ike Jakson

    Patrick

With all due respect I hope you understand that my first comment was a dig at the Post Author and not at other readers. But I would like to make a few points on your comment.

1 – Obama is not Reagan or Clinton. Reagan went on to win in a 49 State landslide, and Clinton was probably the best politician that the Democratic Party ever had.

2 – Obama won the nomination to the surprise of the Democrats because Hillary had always considered herself President 2008 ever since she ran for her Senate seat. Whatever the Democrats are saying today, Obama was not the man the Party Hierarchy wanted but they realized their mistake too late and he then went on to win because of many factors: Iraq, the economic slump and a badly run campaign by the Republicans.

3 – Now we have a mid-term about the President. Whether that is good or bad or whether the Democrats are saying mid-term is not about Obama, the fact is that it is about Obama for the public and about nothing else.

4 – Whether Sarah Palin runs or not, the Democratic Hexarchy will not go into 2012 with Obama if they think that it is going to cost them the White House. They will dump him long before that election if they deem it in Party interests to do so; they will not take any risk on him whatsoever.

5 – Sorry for taking more time but this is the last. The Media went for Obama because they saw millions that they could make out of the novelty. Look at them now. Even Joe Klein has lost his almost religious faith in Obama. When the Media dumps him too, he will be well and truly gone.

That is what the Republicans are watching out for and that will determine who runs for them. All this speculation about Miss Sarah is giving her more publicity and she is clever enough to know that. And she is enjoying her new-found popularity plus the money. Who wouldn’t if he/she had the same opportunity?

  • Ike Jakson

Democratic presidents who got nominated for a second term for the past 100 + years:
    .
    Clinton.
    .
    Carter.
    .
    Truman.
    .
Roosevelt (as well as a third and fourth time).
    .
    Wilson
    .
    Democratic presidents challenged for re-nomination:
    .
    Johnson.
    .
    Carter.
    .
At the end of the day, the Democratic Party, even more than the Republican Party (but, with the Tea Party almost an even match now) does not respond much to the hierarchy of party leadership.
    .
Party favorites who won the Democratic nomination (excluding second term):
    .
    Gore
    .
    Mondale
    .
    Herbert H Humphrey
    .
    Stevenson (twice)
    .
In other words, the Democratic leadership almost never bets on the right horse except when it comes to incumbents.
    .
Obviously the 2010 midterms are two things:
    .
First, the long American tradition of giving one party The White House and the other party one or both of the houses during a midterm election.
    .
    And
    .
Second, a referendum on the economy.
    .
Hence, if the economy does not boom between 2011 and 2012, the next landslide will be pushing Republicans back out again between presidential coat tails and another referendum on the economy.

  • http://patricksartor.wordpress.com patricksartor

” The Media went for Obama because they saw millions that they could make out of the novelty.”
    .
First, the right wing battle cry of the media being so liberal has been debunked.
    .
Second, a female president would have been a greater novelty than a black man as would have been a female vice president.
    .
Sure, the black community is, in most elections, far less likely to vote than elderly wealthy or upper middle class women with 2008 being an exception, but, with women outnumbering men among registered voters, Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin had the novelty advantage over Obama.

  • http://patricksartor.wordpress.com patricksartor

Yeah, Sarah is becoming old news.

  • rwbbinla

Earl, please expound on Ms. Palins ideas to solve the problems the country is facing now that would be different from what has been done by this administration. Media attention directed toward a person is not conguent with intelligence or ideas, take the Koran (threatening) burning preacher for example and there are countless examples of the media focusing on people who are not important or relevant to the discussion at hand. Do you believe that media attention is a justification or approval of her stated talking points or actions by the American people.

Oh brother, Patrick. You are so transparent. Pull your head out of the dark place its in!

YOU are the reason I love Palin. I like her, I am supposed to be reading articles about her. You on the other hand are typing replies and comments in overdrive mode in opposition to her while you simultaneously suggest that she’s old news.

Nobody has been so hated by the left which is why she is becoming more powerful within the GOP and the independents, one by one.

The NYTimes boasted in January of 1979 that a recent GALLUP poll showed Carter ahead of Reagan by more than 20 points and he would easily beat him in a national election. Obviously things turned out differently in 1980.

Sarah Palin dangles in front of you in a way that has transformed you from simply an American with an opinion to someone who’s entire blogging, commenting-leaving day rests upon whether or not something good or bad is written about her in the media.

There is a blog out there devoted to merely bashing her 24/7. Why don’t you just hang out there 24/7?

But obsessing about “old news” is becoming poison for your party.

  • http://patricksartor.wordpress.com patricksartor

“YOU are the reason I love Palin. ”
    .
    LOL!
    .
By contrast you, Steve, are a person who has absolutely, positively no influence over me whatsoever. I had no idea I was so important to you. If a woman was so driven by my opinions and so fascinated by what I write online, I should get her phone number.
    .
    LOL.
    .
“You on the other hand are typing replies and comments in overdrive mode in opposition to her while you simultaneously suggest that she’s old news.”
    .
If you really knew about my online life – forget anything about me in regular life – I write far less about Palin than I do about other topics.
    .
“…January of 1979 that a recent GALLUP poll showed Carter ahead of Reagan by more than 20 points..”
    .
    Okay.
    .
On the front page of the Chicago Tribune on November 3, 1948 it read “Dewy Defeats Truman”. Does that mean that the Chicago Tribune was a part of a right wing conspiracy or that polling can lead to misleading conclusions?
    .
“Sarah Palin dangles in front of you in a way that has transformed you from simply an American with an opinion to someone who’s entire blogging, commenting-leaving day rests upon whether or not something good or bad is written about her in the media.”
    .
Actually, I like articles about economics the best since Republicans have abandon Economics, Climatology and even, in some cases, Evolutionary Biology just to pursue a nonsensical ideology which is based upon justifying shutting down government and bringing our government back to when it was completely ineffective one hundred years ago. Relatively speaking, Palin is not very interesting since she has yet to actually once – even once – propose something new.
    .
BTW: If you know any pretty, graduate school educated, brown eyed brunettes in their late 20s to mid 30s in NYC who are as fascinated by my opinion as you are, tell her to give me a call. I’ve posted enough about myself online where a woman fascinated by me could easily get in contact with me.

She thought she was supposed to make political “udder-dances”, so she is.

  • http://gayconservative.org steveflesher

    Patrick,

Somehow I knew that despite the “old news,” you would reply in record time.
    .
The fact is, you one of the most recognizable (to my eyes anyway) anti-Palin ranters. I’ve come to these stories for the last two years and I am just as interested in other folks and issues as well. However; when I read an article on the last butt-whooping Chris Christie gives the teacher’s unions or liberal protestors, somehow your name in the comments section of those artcles is very sparse.
    .
If you can convey, with all seriousness, that Palin is not interesting (when you obessively post on her), on the basis that she hasn’t a magical solution to the world’s problems, then I can assume that you’re enraged at the current President who was swept in on a white horse leading Americans to believe he had one. I am certain that even you can admit that Obama was less qualified to run for President than Palin was on the basis of his community organizing and present-voting junior senatorial experience as well, right?
    .
The fact is, we don’t need “new” ideas. It is less of a case of needing an idea that hasn’t been thought of before as it is getting liberals like yourself to admit that “new” means: more spending, higher taxes, more bureaucratic red tape on our businesses, and more cost passed on to generations of Americans to come based on your social experiment. In the end, when you have a mound of debt, and nothing substantial to show for it, at least you can say hey man, at least it was a new idea! I myself would prefer a “new idea” that wouldn’t cost us one trillion dollars a pop.
    .
Palin has the new approach of accepting and understanding the age-old traditions of churning out a society of makers in lieu of government-dependent takers. Nothing good comes easy. Nothing worth anything is given to us. If you are in debt, you stop spending and you work more — even if it is more than 40 hours a week.
    .
Unlike individuals like yourself and the President who attempt to play to the weaker sides of individuals by trying to make them believe that there is a magic button to push which defies the rules: hard work, thrift, and sacrifice.

Wall Street could not act irresponsibly without Americans obsessed with borrowing. They couldn’t act irresponsible without Fannie and Freddie using taxpayer money to back bad loans. Yet, you can do your best to convince me that the real reason Chris Dodd is resigning is because he’s tired and it has nothing to do with his sweetheart Countrywide deal.
    .
Nah, there is a Sarah Palin article somewhere for you to be looking at, and just as the Reagan whiners were crying in 1980, the Palin-deranged will be break-dancing in rage in 2012.
    .
Palin has endorsed 24 winning primary candidates. Obama? 0 for how many now?

Truman was my favorite President as a kid. He spoke at the school my granddad worked at in the late 40′s.

I think he was the most “normal” of our modern Presidents. Not rich, not politically ambitious, not really a politician. He was going to give that reporter a sock in the snookum when he downtalked Truman’s daughters singing. He was literally a son of the heartland when “heartland” was more than just a phrase.

Not long into a job he didn’t want, he had to make a no- win decision to sentence a bunch of civilians to death in order to save many more people. Without focus groups. Without polling. The Buck literally stopped at him. Agree or disagree with it, he made the decision with no hesitation.

They don’t make them that way anymore, and I think we’re the worse for it. There’s no way I could ever fully trust someone who “wanted” that job. His greatness wasn’t his decision…it wasn’t part of his plan. It was thrust upon him.

“However; when I read an article on the last butt-whooping Chris Christie gives the teacher’s unions or liberal protestors, somehow your name in the comments section of those artcles is very sparse.”
    .
For teachers unions, I have a mixed opinion. Wages and benefits need to be competitive so that we can attract proportionally the same percent of valedictorians who go into teaching as go into wall street. When my grandmother was a teacher in Brooklyn in the 1920s, before she married my grandfather, since women were forbidden from big paying jobs, for women teacher was the female equivalent of a bank vice president. It was easy to attract the best and the brightest women back then as, in Catholic schools, priests and nuns worked for practically no money. (Life long chastity is not as appealing as it once was – I believe this is to due to progress in gynecology and the invention and common use of deodorant).
    .
On the other hand, I take the Bush/Obama stand (which has not changed from Bush to Obama other than Obama added in money to make it happen) that we need to find out what really makes students learn and which teachers can teach the other teachers how to teach. Teachers unions nearly always oppose this in part due to prideful yet very unsuccessful veteran teachers who do not want a colleague with equal experience or, worse yet, a newcomer to turn around teach them how to do their job. They, also, do not want the test to become a hit list (you can add the letter s to hit list) to get rid of teachers the politicians do not like.
    .
” I can assume that you’re enraged at the current President who was swept in on a white horse leading Americans to believe he had one…”
    .
You know how to spell assume. When you ass u me. Don’t be an ass.
    .
I am annoyed that Obama had a pair and would have done more arm twisting to get through single payer health care instead of the Bob Dole and Richard Nixon health care plan.
    .
I am disappointed that he joined hand in hand with Republicans singing kumbaya instead of shutting down Gitmo and not perusing indictments against the Bush administration for war crimes and for lying to the public about WMD.
    .
With eighty years of success using stimulus packages to improve the economy, I am disappointed that, once again holding Republican hands the president passed a watered down stimulus package which gave us half of the relief we needed for half of the cost rather than just to restart the economy and get the revenues back through another economic boom (or at least a reasonable growth rate).
    .
“… that even you can admit that Obama was less qualified to run for President than Palin was on the basis of his community organizing and present-voting junior senatorial experience as well, right?”
    .
    Education:
    .
    Palin, several state schools.
    .
Obama: Columbia University undergrad and President of the Harvard Law review.
    .
    Work experience:
    .
Palin: Ran car wash, sports caster on small Alaskan TV station and helped fisherman husband.
    .
Obama: after two years of working with the poor, worked for extremely high prestige Chicago law firm and constitutional law professor at the best university in Chicago.
    .
    Political experience:
    .
Palin: Small town mayor, member of a commission and half term governor of state with fewer people than Staten Island (NYCs smallest and most easily forgotten borough).
    .
Obama: Four years representing district of Chicago in State Senate and two years as US Senator.
    .
If you consider the lady who swipes your credit card through the machine vastly superior to an Ivy League level law professor who, also, worked at one of Chicago’s top firms, you might be completely insane. But, Palin worshipers tend to be so.
    .
“Palin has the new approach of accepting and understanding the age-old traditions of churning out a society of makers in lieu of government-dependent takers.” How about the far right, including Palin, is pulling out of the historical garbage heap from the 1920s that government is Nero fiddles while Rome burns and does not stimulate the economy.
    .
Obama is following an 80 years of success with stimulating the economy through getting money into the hands of construction workers and other government employees fixing our roads and so on so that they hand it right over to the private sector who, then, spend it on hiring new employees.
    .
“If you are in debt, you stop spending and you work more — even if it is more than 40 hours a week.”
    .
What if nobody is hiring as is the case in what we call recessions?
    .
Then, if not you, the government hires your unemployed neighbor to work 40 or more hours fixing your roads and bridges. When your neighbor spends his money on food, housing, furniture and, maybe, a vacation, the places he shops hire you. Then you can spend on things you always wanted, like lunch and dinner for your children (which you can’t buy when you are not working or getting unemployment benefits).
    .
“Unlike individuals like yourself and the President who attempt to play to the weaker sides of individuals by trying to make them believe that there is a magic button to push which defies the rules: hard work, thrift, and sacrifice.”
    .
This is what Herbert Hoover said. Look at how The New Deal and, more so, the Second World War got us spending our way out of poverty. Herbert Hoover is, actually, the theories Boehner, Gingrich and Palin are following.
    .
“Wall Street could not act irresponsibly without Americans obsessed with borrowing.”
    .
Everybody with a home and a phone call from a mortgage company promising big loans at tiny interest rates is prone to becoming “obsessed with borrowing”. Before bending over backwards for the Republican congress Clinton repealed the Glass Stegal Act, these very same people, not inundated with predatory lenders were not obsessed with borrowing. With a resumption of very, very successful regulations from 1933 through 1999 and appropriate regulation of derivatives as well, the phone calls and ads begging people to borrow money they can not not pay back will end. With it, there will never again be a build up of toxic assets.
    .
Republicans believed in magic. Magically the bankers of 1999 were totally different from the bankers of 1933. By 1999, Republicans believed all bankers were saints.
    .
What’s the difference between a banker of 1933 and a banker of 1999? The banker of 1933 wanted a house phone, a couple of Duesenbergs in the driveway and a house on the Jersey shore. By 1999 they wanted high speed internet service, cell phones for the whole family, two Mercedes in the driveway and house in Palm Beach. Both equally respond fairly poorly as a group to temptation and lend out money to people who can not pay them back and eat the economy with their screw ups.
    .
“They couldn’t act irresponsible without Fannie and Freddie using taxpayer money to back bad loans.”
    .
You’ve got your chronology reversed. First predatory lending was rampant outside of Freddie and Fannie. Later, foolishly (and with Republicans cheering them on) Dodd and Frank allowed Freddie and Fannie to join in the destruction.
    .
    “…the Palin-deranged will be break-dancing in rage in 2012.”
    .
People who dislike the extreme right wing will begin to do an inner city black dance out of style for 25 years?
    .
If Obama wins, are Republicans going to express rage by dancing the sock hop or swinging to Glenn Miler?

  • http://patricksartor.wordpress.com patricksartor

    Steve,
    .
Open any text book on Macro Economics written after about 1950 and you’ll see the absolutely everything today’s right wing says about economics totally debunked.
    .
Read any textbook in meteorology or climatology written after about 1990 and you will see the right wing view of climate change decimated.
    .
Read any history book about the 1930s and you’ll see nearly word for word Gingrich, Boehner and Palin “new ideas” being destroyed by a taste of reality not to resurface again until Barry Goldwater and, to a lesser extent, Ronald Reagan.
    .
Read anything about the economy of the 1980s and you’ll find out that it wasn’t half as good as the nine years from 1993 until 2002.
    .
Facts, my friend, are the enemy of the far right.
    .
Adrenaline pumping catch phrases like “take back America” and “You LIED” and some cute and cudly words about pink elephants and Mama Grizzlies are the only friends the far right has.
    .
Facts be damned, the modern far right hates government except for excessive military spending at all costs no matter how long our country has to deal with unemployment or, if there is no unemployment benefits, starve to achieve the right wing goal of a castrated government domestically and an aggressive foreign policy featuring unlawful wars of aggression and internationally banned torture.
    .
Palin is just one of many of the Koch brother’s puppets. When she’s gone, there will be another American hating right wing winger who will work their hardest to take down the government which keeps the economy going in favor of giving tax breaks to the Koch brothers.

    Sorry apr,
    .
    That’s still -3 points.
    .
Excuses, excuses, excuses. [S]he who is good at making excuses is seldom good at anything else.

(I’m kidding. We all make mistakes.)

Among many things I loved about college was, finally, teachers didn’t grade me for penmanship or spelling.
    .
It was so irritating to get two or three -2 points on a paper because of spelling or really hard to read hand writing. If they only knew in the 1980s that by the 1990s that, first, everything would have a spell check and a grammar check on it and that “LOL” would be tolerated as proper English, high school and earlier would have been better.

    apr,

Here’s another Teapublican you can add to the list:

“David Harmer, a tea party favorite who is running as a Republican for the U.S. House of Representatives in California’s 11th district, is not just in favor of getting rid of the Department of Education. (Something the Maine GOP incorporated into their platform this year.)

No, Harmer wants to eliminate public schools entirely, and turn the clock back two hundred years, to a time when educational opportunities for the poor, African-Americans, women, the disabled, and other groups, were either limited or non-existent.”
