Quote of the Day: Bill Clinton on Anger

He tells the Daily Beast:

Disgruntled Obama supporters planning to sit out the midterms are making “a horrible mistake,” [Clinton] said. “Like everything else you do when you’re mad, there’s an 80 percent change you’re making a mistake. You’ll get the exact result you don’t want.”

Good advice. Unfortunately Clinton was utterly unable to heed it himself in the 2008 primaries, much to his wife’s political detriment.

Update: In a separate interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, Clinton toughens his recently conciliatory rhetoric towards the Tea Party:

The former president, though, also lashed out at the movement, saying that its founders “tend to be pretty far-right extremists whose goal is to destroy the power of government to mediate the power of corporations.”

The Phony War: Obama and Romney Are Debating Character, Not Policy

More than five months from Election Day, the back-and-forth about Mitt Romney’s record at Bain already feels played out. Unfortunately, there’s good reason to expect the campaign continues in this vein indefinitely. Neither Barack Obama nor Mitt Romney are terribly interested in dwelling on policy platforms. Romney’s plan to slash spending and keep taxes low on the wealthy isn’t especially popular, at least not at any level of detail beyond a blithe promise to shrink the deficit. Meanwhile, Obama’s signature first-term achievements, like health care, the stimulus and Wall Street reform, are all unpopular or tricky to sell. (The Dodd-Frank bill is the most popular of these, but hyping it means offending wealthy donors.) So what we’re getting instead is a superficial duel about character–and, worse, one that’s based on the largely false premise that the better man can better “manage” the economy back to health.

Thx for the quote. The snark was uncalled for, however.

  • textee

Does the America-hating, impeached disgrace think that Juanita Broaddrick should have been angry after Boy Clinton raped her?

  • Ivy_B

It’s Bill Clinton, for Pete’s sake. Is it possible for any media figure to resist snark? So much better to replay what one is told by Palin, et al, that shows seriousness.

  • apr2563

Textee is such a prototype right wing, whining, reationary. He is so predictable. No content just hysterical invective. Thanks Textee for staying true to yourself.

  • Paul-no not that one

It’s Crowley. He’s from the generation of “reporters” who were most influenced by Mo Dowd.
    .
    He can’t help himself.

And he will never get better.

“The former president, though, also lashed out at the movement, saying that its founders “tend to be pretty far-right extremists whose goal is to destroy the power of government to mediate the power of corporations.”

    .
Absolutely Mr Former President Clinton. We want to reduce your power grab on our liberty and freedom. We want to reduce you ability to tax us, to pass regulatory legislation or allow regulatory Czars like Cass Sustein to such a low level that you won’t even know they exist anymore in our lives.
    .
This entire charade by the progressives in our government is about nothing but power and control. Just like the big union bosses, it is about power and money for them individually. It has NOTHING to do with middle America. Nothing at all.
    .
All of this Global Warming farce is a ploy to globalize the world into one big huge money sucking government machine. As long as the big powerful union bosses are in control, the big government types like Clinton and Obama are in control, then they are happy as pigs in $hit.
    .
Wake up America. Are you going to believe Clinton, who is nothing but some pervert who occupied the White House, getting his rocks off with some intern? Are you going to believe Barack Obama, he has told you point blank his goal is to “redistribute the wealth” in this country. But, surprise my friends, it is not going to get redistributed to YOU. No no no……as Jeremiah Wright once so famously said……….no no no, God Damn America, we will give it to those people of the world who we can control. We WILL take it all from you. Tale ot frp, FAT Americans, who do make up the 1% of the worlds richest people.

  • apr2563

How about that left wing rag the Ladies Home Journal he mentions in his list of Marxist publications?

  • apr2563

Oh come on. Do you really want to have a dueling pervert post?

  • formerlyjames

Rusty, please, have you no decency? Clinton left office with our country in the best shape it has ever been, even with being hounded by right wing dogs over the blow job, which was true, as well as lies, which were lies. W. ran that into the ground. I know you don’t agree, but that’s a fact, jack. Clinton’s sociopathic tendencies revolt me, but I give credit where it’s due. I’ll take Bill’s brand of sociopath before W’s any time.

C’mon, be honest with yourself. You know that if it weren’t for the 22nd Amendment, the guy would be in his 5th term…….

    Newfreedomblog,

I’ve replied in the past to some of your more outrageous postings in the past (although winnowing that field down is like cleaning the Augean Stables with your teeth) but after today I’m calling it quits. Anyone who can use the phrase “global warming farce” in the face of clear and overwhelming evidence is simply not someone worth wasting the keystrokes on. (There are reports today that the coral reefs are losing their red color and fading to a dull pink because of ocean warming.) Future generations – if there are any – are going to be sitting on what little land is left and wondering how we could have let this happen, how even scientific data become something that could be filtered and distorted through ideology and irrational paranoia.

Good luck to the rest of you on my side of the fence, but to my mind arguing with this guy is like taking a three year old to the circus. You end up cranky, exhausted and sticky, and the only one who enjoys it is the three year old.

Are you kidding?! With President “get off my lawn,” and Vice President “I can see Russia from my house,” we’d be eating cold canned beans in a pitch-dark room by now. The lucky ones, I mean.

  • liberalmeltdown

Hold on, you leftists are mad? What are you mad about? Things are going so well for you. You can do whatever, in fact you have. I thought only Tea Parting white people got mad.

You have leftists all over the place. They’re doing the job of destroying the economy that you elected them to do.

  • perrywhite1

I make it easy on myself, acameronw — I just skip over his posts.

Great. Now if we could just convey this to patricksartor.

  • liberalmeltdown

What evidence of global warming? There is no REAL SCIENTIFIC evidence of manmade Global warming. The science and the scientists are phony.

acameronw: I really tried hard and was successful at not responding to NewRusty and a couple of other reactionaries that post here. But I got “pulled back in”. Good luck. I am going to try to return to non-response. I quit smoking, I can do this!

    hippooath,
How can he not forget Al Bundy’s favorite mag, Big’uns? Admitedly it tended to be both lefty and righty (ambititly?)
After all, I think I saw textee in a NO MA’AM teeshirt in the ‘Married With Children’ episode where they went to protest the cancellation of “Psycho Dad”!
Maybe I should check YouTube for the Glenn Beck Washington videos; Maybe I’ll see Textee there, wearing the same shirt! ;-)

Obama supporters like myself are not mad, we’ve resigned ourselves to the fact that the current Democratic party s broken and incapable of leading. I will sit out 2010 so as to purge the party in anticipation of 2012.
