This Is What A Democrat In Trouble Looks Like

I mention that Stephanie Herseth Sandlin is a Democrat only because she doesn’t in this, her latest ad.

Meanwhile, Rep. Bobby Bright, the endangered Alabama Democrat, has been trying to broadcast the same message by joking that Nancy Pelosi might die. Which is another way of doing it.

The Phony War: Obama and Romney Are Debating Character, Not Policy

More than five months from Election Day, the back-and-forth about Mitt Romney’s record at Bain already feels played out. Unfortunately, there’s good reason to expect the campaign continues in this vein indefinitely. Neither Barack Obama nor Mitt Romney are terribly interested in dwelling on policy platforms. Romney’s plan to slash spending and keep taxes low on the wealthy isn’t especially popular, at least not at any level of detail beyond a blithe promise to shrink the deficit. Meanwhile, Obama’s signature first-term achievements, like health care, the stimulus and Wall Street reform, are all unpopular or tricky to sell. (The Dodd-Frank bill is the most popular of these, but hyping it means offending wealthy donors.) So what we’re getting instead is a superficial duel about character–and, worse, one that’s based on the largely false premise that the better man can better “manage” the economy back to health.

“I took on the liberal Leaders who want to take away our guns”
    .
Powerful!!!! What do you think Michael?
    .
I am almost shocked you had the nerve or guts to post this ad. LOL

  • shepherdwong

Would you mind pointing us to just a few of your columns talking about the many, many Republicans who ran away from their party ID the past four years?

  • yutsano

Like oh say Dino Rossi who has a new ad that highlights his connections to Seattle and doesn’t mention the word “Republican” once. Two big no nos if you want to get anywhere in Washington state as a Republican.
    .
Oh and the ad itself is bizarre too. Typical Rossi, full of sound and fury yadda yadda yadda…

“I dare anyone to make an argument that this isn’t happening with candidates from both parties. Really. Try.”

“I took on liberal leaders to protect our right to own guns.”

What is she talking about? When did she do that?

Herseth Sandlin has been in congress since 2004. Was there a big congressional fight over gun owership that I failed to notice? There have been a couple of Supreme Court cases that solidified the individual right to own firearms, but the congresswoman wasn’t part of that process unless she was pinch hitting for an ailing justice that week. I think I would remember that, though.

This is empty political rhetoric. She is simply pressing the conservative buttons that Republicans usually press to motivate their base. Now, she is the one doing it presumably to de-motivate their base.

    Good luck with that.

Uhhh, Michael. Have you ever watched any political ads?

How many TV ads can you find that DO mention party affilitation?

    Sheesh.

  • Ivy_B

Not only ads, but political mailers. In several cases I had to actually search out which party the candidate belonged to. This is a tiresome trend.
