Sarah Palin Stops By The “Worst Governor Ever” Sign

In the new issue of Vanity Fair, White House communications director Dan Pfeiffer is quoted making the following observation: “What they teach you on the first day of press-secretary school is to worry about blowing something up by giving attention to it. … ‘Don’t blow something up.’” He goes on to explain that those rules no longer apply. With the Internet, the story will blow up anyway. You have to respond.

Sarah Palin, apparently, agrees. Sarah Palin’s Facebook page is now promoting this video, which I was alerted to because of her Twitter feed.

This is exactly the sort of low-information, high-emotion, tracker gotcha carnival act moment that plays really well in the political entertainment media–cable, internet and talk radio. If Palin was a Democrat, Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity could fill their Tuesday shows ranting about nothing else. As it happens, I’ll place my money on MSNBC for the most replays, and will bet on well more than 100,000 YouTube views by tomorrow at noon.

On Facebook, Palin shows just how to rebut this sort of thing, in the new media world that Pfeiffer describes. She deflects it. “The LSM has now decided to use this brief encounter for another one of their spin operations,” she writes. LSM means Lamestream media, in other words reporters like me, who, at least in my case, found out about the video from Palin. Then she makes the requisite Nancy Pelosi dig, or at least what sounds to this Lamestream reporter like a Nancy Pelosi dig.

They claim I – wait for it – “appear to roll my eyes” when the lady tells me she’s a teacher. Yes, it’s come to this: the media is now trying to turn my eyebrow movements into story lines. (Maybe that’s why Botox is all the rage – if you can’t move your eyebrows, your “eye rolling” can’t be misinterpreted!)

As I have said before, don’t hate the player. Hate the game.

And one other thing: Aqua Buddha.

Audacity of Dope: Tales of a Toking Teenage Obama

We knew Barack Obama smoked weed in high school because he wrote about it in his books. What we didn’t know until Buzzfeed posted these choice nuggets (I’m so sorry) from David Maraniss’s new book on the President’s younger years, is the giggle-worthy details of his “Choom Gang” lifestyle, which are right out of a buddy stoner flick. Obama and his friends drove around the lush Hawaii countryside, hot-boxing their VW bus and re-upping with a long-haired pizza-tossing dealer named Ray, who Obama thanked in his yearbook “for all the good times.”

Obama Stumbles? Why the President’s Right to Talk About Bain

The meme of the day in journo-world is that President Obama has stumbled at the outset of the general election campaign. The evidence for this? Well, uh, there isn’t very much, really–except that a few Democrats have criticized his campaign’s attacks on Mitt Romney’s record at Bain Capital and that Obama’s fundraising is merely humongous, instead of obscenely humongous. The two phenomena are linked, of course: Obama isn’t getting the usual haul from Wall Street because he has outrageously–outrageously!–tried to regulate the bankers who did so much to crash the economy in 2008. The handful of Democrats squawking are people who either (a) get money from private equity firms or (b) have retired and joined Mondo Casino. But there is another side to this story:

Michael, I posted this video under the Morning Must Read thread. Now if the traditional media would stop fixating on reading Palin’s facebook postings. It was accessable on the Daily Dish.
    .
Not only does she roll her eyes when the woman states she is a teacher, her minions spend a considerable amount of time trying to put themselves in front of the camera. They must have been concerned.
    .
Now you may think she is clever to twist this to her advantage. The only persons she is fooling is her cult followers.

I have to say that I could go the rest of my life without ever hearing the name “Sarah Palin” again. What has she done? What has she added to the national discussion? What is her area of expertise? She’s like Kim Kardashian — famous for being famous. Like George W, she has failed at everything she has ever attempted, but keeps getting promoted. And she is propped up by the media she constantly insults, because they need the ratings and she needs the attention. If you wrote this scenario in a novel, no one would believe it.

  • http://patricksartor.wordpress.com patricksartor

The one with the camera must be my height because Sarah looks she is three feet tall.

Add in that her voice is so squeaky and you can tell that this is what it would be like if you (if you are tall) met Sarah Palin on the street.

And you thought her prepared statements were ridiculous…

    Worst Governor Ever.

I seem to remember that when Palin was Governor she had the highest approval rating by the citizens of her state of any Governor in the country.

If, when she was Governor, the people of Alaska felt so strongly about her performance as their Governor to give her the highest rating in the country, the sign “Worst Governor Ever” doesn’t seem to fit.

3xfire3, how could you possibly think she was a good gov? she quit…. get it, QUIT.

Name me anyone who quit her post, elected by the people, like she did, and was considered a success.

In my conservative world quitters are losers. If you are/were a parent, would let your child quit something they signed up for, letting down her/his teammates in the process?

If you and your fans of Palin can get past your obsession with her, you would see her for who she really is.

I don’t get it, as a conservative who was a big fan of William F. Buckley. He must be rolling over in his grave, along with Ronald Reagan with the likes of Palin.

Oh, no, textee. You cannot do that this time. You cannot de-personalize someone by calling her a “thing.” You cannot make nasty assumptions about this person without knowing anything about her or the town she lives in. The teacher & sign-hanger actually said later that she enjoyed the conversation. During her conversation with Sarah Palin she is articulate and states her opinion clearly. Does she HAVE to agree with Sarah in order to not be called names by you?
Please read this blog from a person who lives in the town of Homer, Alaska. It’s a small town, so everyone knows everyone else. Many people know Kathleen Gustafson.
There is no reason to slam a citizen for stating her first Amendment right to freedom of expression.
And tell me this, textee. Why did Sarah’s goons try to block the recording of the conversation?

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/shannyn-moore/sarah-palins-homer-moment_b_675198.html?utm_source=DailyBrief&utm_campaign=080910&utm_medium=email&utm_content=BlogEntry

  • blossom38

You’re going to have to describe the term “carping” as it applies to Kathleen Gustafson. Doesn’t she, as an Alaskan citizen, have the right to be angered that the state’s governor left office half-term? (Do we even know if Mrs. Gustafson voted for Sarah and feels betrayed?)
Many “independent” voters or “tea party” members felt free to scream at their federal representatives last August. Don’t you remember those town hall meetings and that behavior? I would allow that behavior went far beyond “carping.”
This lady put up a sign on her friend’s shack down near the area where Sarah would be visiting. She had a conversation with Mrs. Palin whilst her daughter called her an “a-hole” and stated “you’re just jealous.” Mrs. Palin responded with a snarky “Oooooh, you think I’m a celebrity,” before moving to a statement that she did what she did ” to protect the Constitution.” Well, if that is the case, then she should not be offended by a fellow-citizen using her first amendment rights to freedom of speech. Her reasoning and logic were circular and did not address Mrs. Gustafson’s strong feelings that Mrs. Palin had left office for a specious reason.
Oh, yes, and someone should tell Mrs. Palin’s bodyguards they should do some studying of other parts of the Constitution.
    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/shannyn-moore/sarah-palins-homer-moment_b_675198.html?utm_source=DailyBrief&utm_campaign=080910&utm_medium=email&utm_content=BlogEntry

  • blossom38

All I know is when I visited Alaska and met a lot of people who are everyday, hard-working, average people, all of these people considered Sarah Palin “an embarassment.”

  • blossom38

This is a story out of “something.” Mrs. Palin could have simply walked past this sign, smiled and acknowledged the sign-maker, said “have a nice day,” or “sorry you feel that way,” or any number of non-attention-getting responses. But, no, the “professional” chose to make hay out of a woman’s expression of her first amendment rights and yes, yet again, turn it into a story about how people are picking on her. You know the “cajones” she accused Barack Obama of not having re: immigration? Well, she had better grow a pair if she continues to stay in politics.

Well, calling other people’s posts “garbage” is an example of uncivil.
    .
Second, didn’t your mommy tell you “two wrongs don’t make a right?” I hope you told your children and grandchildren this, but, if all you can say is that in your opinion others were uncivil and you were less uncivil, that doesn’t say much about your writing.
    .
“My comments about Palin nearly causing an upset in Obama’s election comes from the day after her nomination, when McCain went ahead on the Polls for the first time against Obama. ”
    .
The jump was very short lived since Sarah Palin was an unknown and Republicans on the McCain campaign – not just liberals, not just moderates, not just Republicans far away from the campaign – said that they regretted bringing Palin onto the ticket due to her lack of experience and inability to handle the media.
    .
“After that the MSM went after Palin to make sure she did not hurt Obama’s campaign.”
    .
And there are communists in your cornflakes, too.
    .
First, nearly all media corporations have conservative owners and/or CEOs.
    .
Second, you have no reason to say that reporters ignored gaffs on the Democratic side nor that the media provided any false or misleading information about Palin at all at any time.
    .
Third, things like this come from Sarah Palin herself since she seems to believe that this video combined with the one paragraph below it in quotations make her look good.
    .
The video was not popular at first. Palin released it with her one paragraph. All the “liberal media” did was on a couple of paragraphs of his own.
    .
This is the conservative media releasing exactly what Sarah Palin asked them to release since she has the warped belief that this makes her look good.
    .
If this post is a part of a liberal plot to make Sarah Palin look bad, then the kingpin liberal conspirator must be Sarah Palin herself since this is her own release.
    .
    Think it over.
    .
Sarah Palin releases this. MS posts it. Most people here think it makes Palin look dumb. Who’s fault is it that Palin’s own unedited material looks dumb?

Pardon me, textee, if you are reading, but a good number of the school teachers I know (and I know a lot, bc I am one!) love Sarah Palin and her buddy Glenn Beck and lean pretty much to the right in most instances. I also come from a family of educators and they represent a range in the political spectrum–some going left and others going right. None of these people are ‘dumb-as-rocks’ or ‘hate America’ (although a number of our students bring the baggage of coming from homes where the parents have misinformed attitudes like yours) Where did all this nasty, fear-mongering rhetoric come from, anyway? You know there is one thing for sure, I can’t wait for 2012. You talk about Sarah Palin, but have you looked at our economy and what is happening. Why does the media focus on her, when we have the worst president in office we have ever had. He was elected because of change, and he has fulfilled what he promised. He changed it from bad to the WORST. You think Sarah is taking things personally, why doesn’t he man up and stop blaming others like Bush. It is his fault we are falling apart. The best thing for the republicans is we have the worst president ever, and if Sarah gets that nominations, it really doesn’t matter, because anyone could run against him and win. Yes, and when the lady with the sign asked her what she was doing to give up the Governorship, she looked amazed, saying something about fighting for the Constitution and free speech. So, as a Governor, you couldn’t fight for the Constitution and free speech? What better place than a voice for the Constitution while representing people of the State? She should have asked Palin if she has read the Constitution, as reading is not her favorite subject. Also, did you see the look she gave her daughter of disdain when the lady told Palin she was a teacher? Is that beneath someone that quits a government job representing the people to go on a book tour and promote a book that the majority of was written by someone else? That mus be beneath a beauty queen as well. Amazing. Maybe she quit to look for Russia again. The lady is a nut and a sellout of the people-that’s it. Notice she didn’t go through a laundry list of her accomplishments in her short time in office either-just babble about things you can’t prove or make any sense of…..amazing.

You might want to spend a little more time listening to educational shows and little less time listening to the histrionics on Fox. Your students will thank you later.

“…so that we might contribute to her election war chest!”
    .
And conservatives keep on saying that Liberals don’t contribute to the helpless and feeble.

  • blossom38

We haven’t even BEGUN to discuss the fact that a member of the Palin entourage TORE DOWN the sign which had been on private property. Again, First Amendment rights, anyone?

  • 53_3

Hell, I think we ought to get together to give her enough money to get a boob job, too!
    .
Can you imagine how far their tongues will dangle when they see that?!?!?!

“Also for all you Liberal commenters, can you give me a Rational, Sane reason you as a group are so irrational wherever Palins name is mentioned and that you all seem to hate this lady and her family with a passion that is totally abnormal.”
    .

Since none of you Liberals had an answer for my question earlier, I though I would ask it again and see if now that you’ve had some time to think about it you have come up with a rational answer.
    .
Patrick, please let someone else answer this for a change.

  • choonzer

As a very infrequent poster, I’ll take a crack at that one…

You’re completely mistaking utter bemusement and mystification for hate. I’ve never once seen anybody on this site say they hate Sarah or her family. In fact, she hurt McCain’s electability, and continues to be the gift to the Left which keeps right on giving. But I for one have suffered for some time now from Sarah Fatigue. I DO hate that the media seems bent on reporting on every nuance of her family’s daily life, and I hate that she encourages this. Like various other pop-culture icons, the degree of fame she’s achieved is completely disproportionate to her accomplishments. So yes, I resent that she’s made herself so notorious, and that so many people seem to care about her at all.

  • buckeyballs

Couldn’t have said it better myself! Well said–she is an embarrassment to the human race,

  • 3xfire3

    choonzer,
    .
I disagree with you but thanks for the honest post.

Palin isn’t the “worst” per se, just the most incompetent. So what? Appeal is more important anyway these days.

  • skponggol

President Obama please learn from Sarah Palin !

Polarizing Obama should watch this video and learn from Sarah Palin as she treats the protester and “teacher” with respect and civility and not with contempt and persecution as he treated Joe the Plumber.

President Obama has repeatedly gone on national TV to insult Special Olympians and called African Americans by that derogatory term “Mongrels”. Americans are totally appalled and disgusted by Polarizing Obama’s insensitive and racist remarks. You don’t need a microscope to examine President Obama’s facial expression to feel insulted.

Polarizing Obama should stand up and learn from Sarah Palin so that he can be more Presidential and more respectable, less Polarizing and less despicable.

“The LSM has now decided to use this brief encounter for another one of their spin operations,” she writes.

-Oh my.. ‘Scuse me while I take a moment to roll my eyes.. There.. That’s better… No botox around my sockets, it just felt good. The ‘Mistress Of Spin’ herself calling the kettle black- isn’t that special.. She could give those other folks lessons.

I’m not sure what’s more disturbing, the blatant hypocrisy, the cynical manipulation of the fact that so many folks will swallow her hyperbole uncritically, or the fact that so many folks have such selective memories that they forget just who got the country into this mess in the first place…

Also, to a previous poster? Sarah Palin ain’t pretty, she just looks that way.. ;)

-I’d be more than happy to answer- see above, for example… ^^^

-I’m not sure about “hatred”, especially of the kind on a par with the brand of sheer hysterics that have greeted President Obama from the moment he became a serious threat to win the presidency, but there’s certainly enough there about her to pique some of us, not the least of which is the fact that as a supreme media opportunist, Palin has done her damndest to stoke the irrational fears surrounding Obama from the get go. Government “death panels” as a part of health care reform? C’mon, let’s get real for a moment. Insurance companies ROUTINELY refuse expensive tests and procedures to those very people who have been fattening their bottom lines for years in the hope of being protected if/when the time comes they have a health crisis and in fact have people on their payrolls who’s job it is to pull the plug on coverage.

It’s all too characteristic of people like Palin to ignore these inconvenient realities in favor of conjuring up self-serving imaginary boogie-men stories. I’m sorry, it mightn’t be outright hatred, like I said, but it is something that does tick a few of us off, and quite rightly so. I only wish that more folks would regard her musings more critically- if they did, Ms. Palin might just find her 15 minutes of fame pretty brief indeed…

Am I going to be the only one to say I intensely don’t like this palin person just because she is eminently detestable?

  • http://mystgreen.wordpress.com mystgreen

… and Obama isn’t a United States citizen.

When Palin can officially tell HER followers to stop believing and circulating lies like this (there are many lies like this and racists within her circle of followers) then maybe she won’t be the cow. Lies like this one go through my inbox so often that I begin to believe it’s a Liberal hoax being perpetrated to discredit the GOP/Teaparty movement. The only problem is that so many actually believe this otherwise they wouldn’t forward it on! When they can get off of GARBAGE like this and deal with the real issues (And there are plenty of issues out there if they could focus on them, but maybe they just like being ‘stupid and ignorant’ and attach themselves to things they are capable of grasping.) they will look much more credible.

  • http://mystgreen.wordpress.com mystgreen

The Democrats should be printing up bumper stickers right now that say:

    Palin In 2012

It might be their only hope.

I actually prefer to have a president of one party and control of the congress of the another. You can’t trust either side when they control both positions. They push too much cr@p through the system for it to be healthy to the average American. The GOP would push too much big business freedom (Remember the economic meltdown that greeted Obama when he came into office where there wasn’t a good solution and he would be blamed for any outcome?) and the Democrats push towards socialism accompanied with either higher taxes to support it or ballooning national debt.

  • lanchealot

So yes this month alone we are 165 billion dollars in debt just this month. While the worst ever biased media continues on their absolutely butt kissing tour of Obama’s butt our Country continues to spend its way in to the toilet. The media including TIME has turned in to a leftist spew pot. There are no tough questions for Obama, the holier than though attitude towards a President that in future will show was the most destructive and overspending in history. They continue on their ever hating Palin plan to deflect from their beloved leader who is ruining our Country. Better wake up and smell the coffee and start reporting the truth because the only people that are getting hurt are future generations to come.

  • legumepod

From Palins FB-page “…It’s what makes our politics so uniquely democratic: two people discussing the things they care about, even though they respectfully disagree about just about everything..

She talks as if a discussion between two people could *never* occur anywhere else in the world but in the United States. That it is only our “uniqueness” that allows for this. Good Lord, can someone PLEASE come into this thread and explain why anyone would vote for this piece of fluff?

  • pelagiuscan

“…we are 165 billion dollars in debt just this month.”

For those who still swallow the line that Obama’s an irresponsible spend-the-country-into-the-toilet communist, pause for a moment and reflect upon the state of the nation he inherited a short time ago- one in very real danger of an economic depression, with plummeting tax revenues, and embroiled in a pair of VERY expensive wars abroad. He didn’t cause this mess, folks, he’s been trying to put out the fires.

In spite of the ongoing myth, for the past 30 years, it’s been the Republican administrations that have proven the most damaging for the country’s bottom line, while succeeding Democrat administrations have put the house in order. Don’t believe me?

    http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b8/US_Federal_Debt_as_Percent_of_GDP_by_President.jpg

Some folks should perhaps do a little less watching FOX news and a little more homework…

  • belotta

“worst ever biased media”? Try China, North Korea, Cuba, Iran, Uzbekistan, Thailand.

It’s hard to take anything seriously that follows that line. It’s too extreme and taints everything that comes after.

  • belotta

I don’t like her because I don’t think she’s sincere. I also think she cares more about having an opinion that is easy to generate without much thought or attention than she cares about crafting a thoughtful opinion based on careful consideration of facts and circumstances upon which she truly has an intellectual grasp. I think that when she delivers answers to questions she wasn’t expecting that she strings together a series of talking points in not-fully-formed sentences that don’t even maintain a coherent thread.

I also think the Palin’s as a family are shamelessly transparent moral hypocrites.

    That’s for starters.

Also, there was her fomenting of violent racist talk during the election and her refusal to call people out for hateful rhetoric at her campaigns.

I mean, there are so many reasons to dislike and distrust this woman. But really, I’ve already spent enough time dwelling on this negative energy.

  • vintel7

It is impossible to not hate a disgusting, vile, narcissist like Sarah Palin. She manipulates the media and her followers by pushing their victim and “disillusionment” buttons. She is a divisive figure and a very sick person. Palin exhibits all the symptoms of malignant narcissism. The media and her stupid unconscious followers created Palin…who is laughing all the way to the bank. The media is fascinated by and addicted to dysfunction and this is symptomatic of deep collective issues in the American psyche.

  • davidirby

Thank God for Sarah Palin! I wouldn’t vote for her or anyone she supports for garbage collector. But in this bad news, sad news world, at least she provides some comic relief. And I think her political endorsements, like those of her Teabagger allies, will be the kiss of death for every Republican everywhere where voters still have an ounce of sense.

And the Lord sayeth unto Mohab,

“Let the Right Wing Morons bringeth ignorance across the land.”

    And sayeth Mohab, “What”

And the Lord sayeth in a booming voice, “Wattaya, DEAF!!

And Mohab spaketh, “O Lord, how do we stop the educated and informed?”

So the Lord said,” Don’t worry about it, I giveth to the right wing the power to spread, hatred, bigotry and violence, and they shall raise ignorance to the level of a Sacrament.”

And Mohab responded, “You say What?”

In righteous anger the Lord sayeth thus, “I will send you a messenger of such overarching ignorance and duplicity that the mass of morons will not be able to veer from her message. I will call her palin and her venom will be manna to morons throughout the land.”

This is the Word of the Lord
