Obama Stumbles? Why the President’s Right to Talk About Bain

The meme of the day in journo-world is that President Obama has stumbled at the outset of the general election campaign. The evidence for this? Well, uh, there isn’t very much, really–except that a few Democrats have criticized his campaign’s attacks on Mitt Romney’s record at Bain Capital and that Obama’s fundraising is merely humongous, instead of obscenely humongous. The two phenomena are linked, of course: Obama isn’t getting the usual haul from Wall Street because he has outrageously–outrageously!–tried to regulate the bankers who did so much to crash the economy in 2008. The handful of Democrats squawking are people who either (a) get money from private equity firms or (b) have retired and joined Mondo Casino. But there is another side to this story:

Lewis Eisenberg, Major Romney Donor, Accuses Obama Of Demonizing Wall StreetHuffPost Politics

Why, oh why are normal every folks, who are educated or not, branded as ‘Racist’, because they disagree with some (most) of this president’s policies?? Is this not a free speech issue? If this was Bush, they would likely be branded as ‘sh*^t disturbers; racist is a much harsher, and ‘grabbing at straws type of comeback. There was no mention of ‘race’ until the president HIMSELF brought it up, and suddenly, everyone on the ‘Left’ started playing the ‘Race Card’. Is there NO WAY to get past the race issue?? Can’t we just ask, as a nation,(of blacks’. reds, yellows, whites) is the President doing the job he was elected to do. Is he upholding the Constitution; Is the country prospering; does he have a birth Certificate. All of these have NO mention of ‘Color’…..Thank you for allowing me to rant!!! David H.

  • http://patricksartor.wordpress.com patricksartor

“Why, oh why are normal every folks, who are educated or not, branded as ‘Racist’, because they disagree with some (most) of this president’s policies??”
    .
    You don’t.
    .
People holding signs with pictures of voodoo doctors with the word “Obama” written under it, of monkeys with the word “Obama” written under it and the like get called racist.
    .
Not one person here agrees 100% with what Obama has done. Many agree with 80%, of 90%, but none 100%.
    .
Some of that opposition is from people further to the left that Obama (about half of it).
    .
Only people who have expressed clear signs of racism get called racist here and Obama himself and his administration are incredibly reluctant to talk about race at all under any circumstances.
    .
If you believe we can maintain two wars, our already stingy social services and what is left of our safety new to prevent third world like situations of people begging for food on the streets while not either raising taxes on those who can most afford it or going into deficit spending and do not walk around with signs showing a man holding spear with the word “Obama” under it, you are not called racist, but, mathematically incompetent or absurdly unrealistic.

  • grape_crush

Why, oh why are normal every folks, who are educated or not, branded as ‘Racist’, because they disagree with some (most) of this president’s policies??
    .
I don’t think that’s a true statement, David. The ‘normal everyday folks’ being branded as racist are the ones that disagree with Obama’s policies and write stuff like this or make signs showing Obama with a bone through his nose.
    .
There was no mention of ‘race’ until the president HIMSELF brought it up…
    .
    False.
    .
everyone on the ‘Left’ started playing the ‘Race Card’
    .
    False.
    .
Is there NO WAY to get past the race issue??
    .
As long as a certain segments of the US population are unwilling to deal with their own (overt or unthinking) racism, it will be very difficult to ‘get past’ that issue.
    .
    Can’t we just ask, as a nation…does he have a birth Certificate…
    .
Oh, I get it…you’re one of those birther types. So much for taking you seriously.

  • maurice2u

    .
That clear enough a reason for you?

  • kevin

does he have a birth Certificate
    .
If the birth certificate produced by Hawaii’s secretary of state, the supporting statement from Hawaii’s Republican governor, and the birth announcements found back in both of the major newspapers there in 1961 aren’t enough for you, you’re beyond reasoning with.
    .
I’d recommend weaning yourself off the right-wing media like Fox News. You might be surprised at what the world looks like when you include “facts” and “reality” in the news you consume.

  • Alex Vallas

Just the mention in your statement about the President’s birth certificate would indicate to me what a bigot you are. It has been proven over and over again that the President was born in Hawaii. The Hawaii Bureau of Statistics had to say STOP to all the emails asking for a copy of the certificate. They provided it thousands of times before they quit. Insofar as what the President has accomplished. A lot with virtually no help from the obstructionist teams of McConnell, Boehner and Cantor. Think about it. Under his watch, more al-Queda and Taliban leaders have been caught and/or executed in 18 months than all of Bush’s 8 years. He has taken steps for financial reform For those of us who lost vast sums of money in our retirement annuities due to lack of oversight, the change is welcome. In fact, I wish we could send some of the Wall Street liars and cheats to jail.
Healthcare reform was also badly needed. Too many positive points to comment here.
I personally disagree with the President with respect to Afghanistan. I think we should get the hell out of there. It is not a real country, but a bunch of tribes that do not respect a central government (sort of like th Tea Party). Their illiteracy rate is so high it would take generations to educate and correct.
Racism is alive and well in the US. Just look at the number of blogs degrading the President. We have a long way to go.

  • kevin

    Good example.
    .
Dressing up a monkey doll with an Obama sticker and calling him “Little Hussein” — that’s racist. That doesn’t mean everyone at that rally was racist, or that the candidate he was supporting against Obama was racist, or anything like that.
    .
But that guy? He’s a racist. And conservatives can either denounce him or cover for him. I’m not usually one to offer the other side advice, but I really don’t see what you gain from covering for those kind of people.
    .
That’s what the NAACP resolution was about. It never painted the entire Tea Party movement as “racist,” and instead called upon responsible, non-racist Tea Party leaders to “repudiate” the racist “elements” in their movement. Which, incidentally, they did when they booted Mark Williams from his leadership post, seemingly validating the NAACP complaint and addressing it well.

  • maurice2u

That video was in response to 42hinoon. The thing about the individual in the segment is that he’s not some back-wood, uneducated redneck stereotype. Not a “fringe” member of society, and this video was not taken in some small southern town.
    .
The video was taken Johnstown, Pennsylvania at a political rally with literally thousands of people at the event (as supporters and opposers). Some people’s attitudes are always opposed to “other”. That other doesn’t have to be race, but race, particularly any that provides easily discernable physical differences, allows for an easy target to identify as “not like me”.
    .
As far as the birth certificate thing goes, people who have no understanding of the systems in place in various locations, and no willingness to research them, have very little credibility (as in none) when they won’t take the steps to answer their own questions instead of just rambling on talking points.
    .
A cursory google search for State of Hawaii law around birth cirtificates will give you the answers:

    http://hawaii.gov/health/vital-records/obama.html

  • http://2thirdsrocks.wordpress.com 2thirdsrocks

Racism is a product of liberalism. The lifeblood of the democrat party, which never holds power very long. When all else fails (and believe me they’re failing) cry racism. But this time it’s not going to work.

  • http://2thirdsrocks.wordpress.com 2thirdsrocks

Aww give it a rest. We all know he was born and raised in Chicago, the direct descendant of Al Capone. Just look at his policies.

  • apr2563

It seems to me the right wing spends considerable more time yelling racist than anyone on the left. Watch Fox News (well only for a moment so you don’t go batsh!t crazy) at any time of the day (except Shep Smith) and you will hear the word racist applied to Obama and the left.

  • maurice2u

When people summarily dismiss things you write, feel free to reference the statement you just made as cause.
    .
Racism existed long before, and will be around long after: democrats, republicans, you, me, or the United States of America.
    .
Making such ignorant statements repeatedly only cheapens your positions. If your rebuttal to that fact is “well look at what (they who are not like me)” say, that is the argument of a child who has been caught in wrongdoing. It holds no weight when they do it either. If your rebuttal is that you are “not here to convince any looney (those who are not like me) people”, then one can only conclude your purpose is only to agitate or somehow self entertain in foolish bantering. Equally childish.
    .
For the sake of argument however I’m going to assume I’m wrong about both of those items being your method of defense (though I’m fairly certain I’ve seen you utilize each of them on this site before), what is it you’re trying to convey when you make such demonstrably outlandish remarks?

  • maurice2u

I do apologize, but you’ll have to make up your mind here:
    .
Is he a non-American citizen muslim from Kenya with no other purpose than the destruction of America?
    .
    or
    .
Is he an American of Italian ethnicity from Chicago, decendant of a guy who just believed he shouldn’t have to pay taxes? heh

  • grape_crush

Racism is a product of liberalism.
    .
Nice bumpersticker slogan, ‘tho it sounds incredibly ignorant of history. Care to explain?
    .
But this time it’s not going to work.
    .
Note the timing here: 2/3rds is whinging about Dems playing the race card just after a few people in the right-wing just got caught (via Breitbart’s fake Sherrod video) playing the race card against the NAACP.

Spare me you lame intellectual claptrap m2u. You and Kevie and lardass sartor, and a few others who participate in your big ole liberal circle jerk are the problem. Real people(like me) see it and tell it like it is. You’re the fringe, make no mistake about that. You’re warped ideology stinks of death and is falling apart before your eyes. Your party pretends to care about the poor, but without them they would have nothing to stand on. Their policies only create more poor. 700+ billion per year spent on welfare and the results? More poor. More hands out. Doesn’t work, never has, and now we’ve run out of money. How’s them policies working out up there in good ole new york patrick lardass? What’s these rumors I hear about your city going broke? How’s that real estate business working out for you with all your millionaires leaving in droves? The last time I was up there I saw a graffiti covered stinking trash heap, and that was back when things were a hell of a lot better than they are now. A shining example of liberal policies. No poor in liberal New York huh? No racism or corruption either huh? And to think your biggest concern is allowing a murderous band of RAGHEADS to establish a mosque in your cesspool of a city. Gimme a f__kin break. Go ahead and pound out another wave of intellectual liberal fecal matter. I’ll read it tomorrow. Off to make some music.

  • kevin

Sherrod, I still don’t get why the Buchananite “own kind” is acceptable from a high ranking public official speaking publicly
    .
Who said it was acceptable? I’m asking honestly, as I haven’t heard a single person defend that line. In fact, when that “own kind” comment was highlighted in Breitbart’s edited clip, that was precisely what led to the denunciations of her by the NAACP and her firing by the USDA.
    .
But now that we’ve heard the full speech with its full context, we can see she made that “own kind” comment to show that she used to think in terms like that but had realized it was racist and rejected it. She herself was rejecting the “own kind” mentality.
    .
Maybe you’re buying the latest line of BS that Breitbart is pushing, that the NAACP applauded those claims? If so, go listen to the actual speech and read the transcript.

Are you really sure you haven’t gone back to the bottle because, it has been fifteen years since NYC had a problem with graffiti, race relations are outstanding.
    .
Here’s an example: in the Northernmost neighborhoods of Manhattan, North of Harlem are Inwood and Washington Heights. Along the boarder you’ll find Latino looking people with names like O’Ryan. Inwood is, traditionally, an Irish American cops and firemen neighborhood and Washington Heights is mostly Dominican. There is are a few common churches where the two meet and, sometime, intermarry.
    .
That’s race relations in NYC (and, for the most part, Dominicans are very dark skinned Latinos – the Irish, not so dark skinned).
    .
Crime: for ten years the lowest crime rate of any major city in the Unites States.
    .
Residential real estate is on the uptick. It’s all time low was January 2009.
    .
Commercial Real Estate follows unemployment trends and New York is at about 8%.
    .
Our mayor is the eighth wealthiest man in the United States and founder of Bloomberg News. Donald Trump still lives here. Manhattan has the most billionaires per mile of any place in the United States.
    .
My borough of Queens (not where I do my work but where I live) is the most ethnically diverse county in the United States. Two Million people here in Queens of every nation and religion ride the subway together here.
    .
In my neighborhood there eighteen restuarants, three bars, eighteen stores, two bars and two Dunkin Donuts all within 1,000 feet of my door and the rent is very reasonable. You’ll see cops here six times a day: breakfast, lunch, dinner and getting coffee three shift changes.
    .
I’ve been thinking about, as side operation, selling the digital photos I take of the city (about 200 mostly Manhattan and my neighborhood) online for $1 each but I’d give you as many as you would like for free just to show you what this city is like.
    .
BTW: Where do you think Fox News has it’s headquarters? Dallas? It’s in the East 50s of Manhattan. When your wingnuts like O’Reilly, Hannity and friends want a place to work, they always come flocking to NYC.

John Kerry, Senator from the great state of Massachusetts, makes decision to berth the Isabel (pronounced “luxury yacht”) in Newport, RI, instead of Nantucket, Massachusetts, where he and Teresa maintain a “summer home”.
    .
Isabel – Kerry’s Luxury, 76-foot New Zealand-built Friendship sloop with an Edwardian-style, glossy varnished teak interior, two VIP main cabins and a pilothouse fitted with a wet bar and cold wine storage – was designed by Rhode Island boat designer Ted Fontaine.
    .
But instead of berthing the vessel in Nantucket, Massachusetts where the senator summers with the missus, Teresa Heinz, Isabel’s hailing port is listed as “Newport” on her stern.
    .
Could the reason be that Rhode Island, the Ocean State, repealed its Boat Sales and Use Tax back in 1993, making the tiny state to the south a haven – like the Cayman Islands, Bermuda and Nassau – for Tax-Skirting Luxury Yacht Owners?
    .
Cash-strapped Massachusetts still collects a 6.25 percent sales tax and an annual excise tax on yachts. Sources say Isabel sold for something in the neighborhood of $7 million, meaning Kerry saved approximately $437,500 in sales tax and an annual excise tax of about $70,000.
    .
If Kerry is really so passionate about helping poor people would he be cheating his home state out of this money? Better yet he could sell the Yacht and donate the money to the poor.
    .
If I remember right, when he ran for President, his tax returns show take he donated very little to charities.
    .
Do any of you Liberals want to come to his defense? Other then Patrick. He would come to the defense of Karl Marx.

  • http://derekg.wordpress.com/ Derek

You don’t have to have a degree in philosophy to know that those who rely exclusively on insult and straw men have nothing of substance to offer. Ignoring them is the best option. They aren’t convincing anyone who has even a modicum of intelligence.

  • http://patricksartor.wordpress.com patricksartor

First, been there -done that. It’s too bad you didn’t read Spob being to responded to by Kevin.
    .
Second, I do not elect people based upon who they go to bed with, who they donate to or any factor other than, first, if they are not breaking laws and second, if I agree with them.
    .
Find liberal who has the experience of John Kerry (if I still lived in Boston) who, also donates to charity and was only married once (instead of being married to the widow of a Republican congressman) and I would vote for him.
    .
Newport is an amazing town for the wealthy – massive mansions owned by Vandbuilts Rockefellers have been museums for the public to see. I spent a three day weekend there as a teenager with my family (in a bed and breakfast, not in a mansion). So, in addition to not paying additional taxes, that is a nice place to park you boat.
    .
As a matter of fact when I was in Boston (for fifteen years) I always heard about how Boston kids would go down there in Summers to deliver pizza and make huge amounts of money for it since the Summertimes there are just wall to wall millionaires who actually live in those mansions for the Summer, order big and tip very well.
    .
Did you vote for GWB because you wanted to give draft dodgers a good name or because you agreed with his politics?
    .
For war heroism, Kerry was the best since JFK and an equal in bravery to John McCain. But, if you disagreed with his politics, I would never expect you to vote for him.

Patrick: I have been saying for weeks, ignore them. At least don’t address them directly. Their soul aim is to rile up other participants and they add nothing of value. When there is a comment that is based on documented facts and doesn’t contain personal attacks and invective, it is worthwhile getting into a dialogue. Otherwise, as I wrote the other day, shun them.

By your own confession 3X, you belonged to association of nearly all conservative businessmen known as the Chamber of Commerce.
    .
Then you tell us that, together, the business community is standing around with their arms folded refusing to invest money because they are conservative and hate liberals regulating business.
    .
Are you part of a shadowy monopoly pushing the economy down?
    .
Do you, secretly, make sure that the Chamber of commerce is almost all very conservative?
    .
Are you plotting the downfall of the economy for Republican gains?
    .
    No?
    .
C of C just ends up attracting more conservatives than liberals but allow liberals?
    .
C of C do not plot together?
    .
Then, if ninety five out of hundred fifteen year olds on the high school student newspaper tend to already have liberal leanings and ninety five out of hundred college students who choose journalism before they take one class in journalism already have liberal leanings and, years into their career, exchange ideas primarily for opinion pieces is it a conspiracy or is it just like minded people tossing around ideas no more nefarious than the Chamber of Commerce.
    .
No, I do not believe that the Chamber of Commerce is a conspiratorial organization. You have as little reason to call Journolists a conspiratorial organization than people who do not belong to the Chamber of Commerce to call the Chamber of Commerce conspiratorial organization.
    .
As a general rule, these writers were centrists or liberal when they were high school students and fifteen to forty years out of high school they exchange ideas regarding centrist to liberal commentary.
    .
As SZ pointed out, this organization is, actually, very third way, not liberal.

Britain Plans to Decentralize Health Care
    By SARAH LYALL
    Published: July 24, 2010

LONDON — Perhaps the only consistent thing about Britain’s socialized health care system is that it is in a perpetual state of flux, its structure constantly changing as governments search for the elusive formula that will deliver the best care for the cheapest price while costs and demand escalate.

Andrew Testa for The New York Times
The new British government’s plan to drastically reshape the socialized health care system would put local physicians like Dr. Marita Koumettou in north London in control of much of the national health budget.

Even as the new coalition government said it would make enormous cuts in the public sector, it initially promised to leave health care alone. But in one of its most surprising moves so far, it has done the opposite, proposing what would be the most radical reorganization of the National Health Service, as the system is called, since its inception in 1948.

Practical details of the plan are still sketchy. But its aim is clear: to shift control of England’s $160 billion annual health budget from a centralized bureaucracy to doctors at the local level. Under the plan, $100 billion to $125 billion a year would be meted out to general practitioners, who would use the money to buy services from hospitals and other health care providers.

The plan would also shrink the bureaucratic apparatus, in keeping with the government’s goal to effect $30 billion in “efficiency savings” in the health budget by 2014 and to reduce administrative costs by 45 percent. Tens of thousands of jobs would be lost because layers of bureaucracy would be abolished.

In a document, or white paper, outlining the plan, the government admitted that the changes would “cause significant disruption and loss of jobs.” But it said: “The current architecture of the health system has developed piecemeal, involves duplication and is unwieldy. Liberating the N.H.S., and putting power in the hands of patients and clinicians, means we will be able to effect a radical simplification, and remove layers of management.”

    .
Gee, how will the new CMS Director who was appointed by the wonder boy take to this news? Let’s see how invested this Administration is on making changes. Since 1948, Britain has had a socialized medical model for insuring its citizens. Now they decide to change the model. What do we do? We follow their old model. Wow! That is brilliant!!
    .
This sounds very much like the structure of our HMO’s which run their own hospital and doctors groups like Geisinger Medical in Pennsylvania. And, Obama the community organizer said he wants to cut out all HMO’s so far as medicare is concerned. Makes so much sense to me. How about you?

“Gee, how will the new CMS Director who was appointed by the wonder boy take to this news?”
    .
The most admired model is not the English model. It is the German model going back to the 1890s.
    .
BTW: With a huge variety of insurers all with different forms to fill out, our system has more waste for paperwork of any model in the world and, the second most important goal after getting everybody a chance to see a doctor when needed is to cut back on paperwork. Nobody likes preventable paperwork or extra employees doing redundant paperwork.

It is not only not working, 2thirds. It has totally back-fired into their faces.
    .
Liberals have fostered a relationship with the poor for many many years. Their base of support is made up of a large proportion of those on some type of public assistance. Disproportionately, blacks make up a very large part of those dependent (keyword), on government assistance.
    .
Dependency of an individual on handouts from the government cause that individual to never seek out better options. Studies are being conducted right now on the extension of unemployment checks to those without jobs. Time after time those studies show that people collecting unemployment will continue to not work, even if they can find a job at or slightly above what they are making from collecting unemployment checks.
    .
Most people I know will work as an incentive. The incentive is to make more money, create a better life for your family, and have the means to become at least a contributing member of our society. They also have shown people will seek out more education to try to continue rising the ladder within an organization they work for. There is also the affect on one’s self-esteem and self-worth, something which in my opinion goes completely ignored by the left.
    .
What we have today are what I like to call generational welfare families. Once they get the welfare assistance, there is no motivation to go out and seek employment. Why would I give up getting a monthly check, free health care on the uncertain aspect of working a job which is not guaranteed? If I can make as much money as I would for my level of education on welfare, why try to make my situation better? Why would I leave the comfort of my cozy couch and TV for the toil and trouble of working a job?
    .

“Unemployment benefits reduce the incentive and the pressure to find a new job by making it less costly to remain without work. Consequently, workers with UI benefits look for new jobs less rigorously than do workers without them. The typical unemployed worker spends about 32 minutes a day looking for a new job.[1] Workers eligible for UI benefits spend about 20 minutes a day looking for work during their 15th week of unemployment. They look much harder when their benefits are about to end, spending more than 70 minutes a day job hunting in the 26th week of unemployment.[2] Since workers with unemployment benefits search less rigorously for work until their benefits are about to expire, it typically takes them longer to find new jobs. Labor economists estimate that extending the potential duration of unemployment benefits by 13 weeks increases the average amount of time workers on UI remain unemployed by two weeks.[3]“

    .
    http://www.heritage.org/Research/Testimony/The-Economics-of-Extending-Unemployment-Benefits
    .
Most of the programs set up in the late 90′s called welfare to workfare have been shut down. Why is that?
    .
Answer: The liberals in this country would begin to lose their base of support. By keeping them dependent on the government, those in power keep feeding a pattern of irresponsibility just to get a vote from them.
    .
This is their defense of their own brand of racism, and actually you can call it government slavery. It is really no different than during the times of slavery, the landowners kept their slaves uneducated and of course dirt poor. Why? So they stayed dependent on the master. Consider liberals and democrats as the new slave owners from the old south. They have created a class of dependent slaves to the government for one job, vote Democrat in each election. It is very simple indeed.

Kevin, the story is out there with respect to Kerry, so there is damage control.
    .
As for “own kind”, the point is that people seem to think Sherrod should be rehired. Given that comment, I’m not sure that’s the case, and I didn’t see any of the Swampland bloggers commenting on that offensive statement.

  • kevin

Sure, there will be damage control. But if you think that will prevent Kerry from being re-elected in 2014 … meh.
    .
One more time — Sherrod herself learned to reject the “own kind” thinking more than two decades ago, and structured her whole speech to the NAACP around a refutation of that idea. Are you saying she shouldn’t be rehired at USDA because she said racist thinking like that was a bad thing?
    .
Sorry, I just don’t see your point on this at all.

    Newfreedom,
    .
There you go again busting the bubble of our Clueless Liberals.
    .
You don’t play fair. That’s why their answers to any rational posts are only a bunch of dribble.
    .
Their replies to my Post 13 are a perfect illustration how ridicules they are.
    .
They have no problem with Journolist because it promotes their Liberal/Progressive views.
    .
    Journalist and now Cabalist:
    .
    1. A large group of Liberal Journalist get together in secrete to discuss ways to use their writings to promote the Liberal/Progressive agenda with the American public.
This is a total violation of the Journalist Creed and totally violates the Presses obligation under our Constitution.
    .
    2. They plan strategies where as a group they will ether write stories or ignore stories whichever will best help the Political Candidates or issues they choose to support.
    .
    3. They will selectively pick and choose what information to write about in order to promote their Liberal/Progressive Agenda.
    .
    4. They will call people they disagree with “Racist” as a way to silence or marginalize them or change the subject to protect their Candidate or issues. This is one of their favorite methods of attack.
    .
    5. They will write false information [Lies] about Conservatives to help promote their Candidates and Agenda. Read their “Actual Conversations” on The Daily Caller.
    .
    6. As a group they believe this subversion of our Democratic Process is justified because the end result will fit their Liberal/Progressive views.
    .
After all “The End Justifies The Means”. The end is so Beautiful and Right and Fair that it justifies their secrete and dishonest actions of Journalist to influence our political process and that it violates “The Journalist Creed and our Constitution” is therefore OK.
    .
Most Liberals on Swampland and apparently Joe and Michael, have no problems with the above actions of Journolist. They claim I don’t know what I’m talking about and that these Journalist are only using their free speech rights. That is Bull Sh*t and the know it.
    .
They then throw out a bunch of garbage and BS and try to claim that Conservatives do the same things. They go on to call Conservatives all kinds of names as justification for the Unscrupulous acts of the Members of Journolist.
    .
They don’t answer the specific charges listed above. Like the Journalist on Journolist our Liberals will simply ignore the facts and change the subject and rant about something else. Notice that they seldom reply to specifics on posts they disagree with. Change the subject is their defense.
    .
There are a couple honest Liberals who post to this site but they usually keep silent on controversial issue such as this. They do a disservice to the Liberal cause by allowing the crazy wing of the liberal’s free range to promote their hate and lies.

And now for something completely different — I found two things worth reading this morning.

One a post by battachio in Digby’s blog Hullabaloo; and the other linked by our old friend Pour me coffee in his twitter stream. The statistics in the Yahoo Finance article are really staggering. Yet all the pundits on Chris Mathews this morning are certain that people will vote against their interests again and elect those who pushed us into this mess. Very sad.

In case my comment goes to moderation because of two links, I’ll post the second in a separate comment.

    .
Seriously, 3X, do you believe there should be a journalist division of the FBI listening in on every newsroom and blog writer to make sure that they are not sharing ideas?
    .
Every group of people have a right to communicate with or not to communicate with anybody they choose to if they are a journalist or not.

    .
Being an “opinion writer” versus a “reporter” are most definately two different things. It has also occurred in the past 10 – 20 years that writers like Joe Klein in particular have shaded those two types by melding them together as one.
    .
The loons on the left have also pi$$ed and moaned about how unfair Fox News is quoting the supposed bias of Fox. The difference here is that Glenn Beck, Bill O’Reilly, and Shawn Hannity do NOT portray themselves at all at being a “reporter” or “journalist”. They specifically tell their audience that they are conservative, and they are an opinion commentator. They clearly define who they are and their ideology.
    .
The same cannot ever be said about Joe Klein. Why have the “jounolist” secret? Why join in a club like that if you do not want to have your “opinions” made known?
    .
It is not only deceitful, it IS against what the Founding Fathers had in mind as the role of the Press. Read the Federalist papers dumba$$ and perhaps you may learn about it sometime. Someone like you questioning the “reading comprehension” of someone is like the pot calling the kettle black.

    .
You fail to differentiate between “secret” and private.
    .
What you discuss with your wife and children at the dinner table tonight is private information not for the government or uninvited private individuals to listen in on. However, it would not be defined as “secret” as if when asking your son about little league is something that the public should know or would want to know.
    .
Teachers, cops, firemen, real estate agents, engineers, chemists, physicists, historians, bankers.. every professional job has a place and situations to meet. All of these meetings are private but none of them are secret.

Rev Jim it seems what you know about Kerry is on par with you know about everything else: either delusional or wrong.

Kerry married was married twice, both were for money. “His” donations to charity are money from others peoples work( hey he is a liberal) like the Heinz family re-distributed to left wing nut job causes, hardly charities.

And like most liberals they give lip services to taxes. Corporations who use the tax code as written to reduce their tax bill are villains and unpatriotic greedy mean people while the left will jump through hoops excusing the same tactics by a political hack who votes to raise taxes on everyday people with batting an eye.

Rich is the proto-typical journalist. When the left does something stupid and illegal, they either lie or attack the supposed source. In the case of Sherrod he did both.

What the left has accused Breibart of doing, taking things out of context, is exactly what they have done if you view his entire piece he does acknowledge her conclusions. But hey why let truth get i the way of a crucifixion. The the obligatory attack on Fox News and blaming them for her firing. Again why let truth get in the way. She was fired by the administration before Fox ever mentioned her name. And now the left is trying to distance Obama from the stupidity of firing her. Least anyone think he is incompetent, or at least more than he already is. Does anyone with an honest rational thought truly believe Vilsack would have fired her over this WITHOUT consulting the WH? The WH staff was doing high fives at first congratulating themselves over getting in front of the news cycle on this. Ooops! Just like Rev Jim and IQ53 here, they were declaring themselves victors on their own facts and once again they were WRONG!

But just like the Obama administration, the left just points fingers as it is always someone else’s fault for their stupidity. And that streak continues.

“Every Honest person already knows that Sherrod was fired a day BEFORE any video was shown on FOX.”
    .
Googling “Fox News Schedule Monday” will not get any clear answers as to when O’Reilly is on the air nor when Hannity is on the air.
    .
It appears as if Hannity was on the air at 3:00 PM on Monday. July 19th at 3:00 PM talking about Sherrod.
    .
She was fired at the end of the work day on Monday, July 19th.
    .
If I understand correctly that Hannity is on Fox News at 3:00 PM, then he, indeed, was advocating for the termination of Sherrod before her termination.
    .
O’Rielly was broadcasting at 8:00 PM supporting the termination of Sherrod on Monday July 19th.
    .
It may have been either a radio broadcast or a television broadcast of Hannity or O’Reilly which advocated the termination of Sherrod before she lost her job. I can not tell which since I could not find a schedule for Fox News on Monday.

“Kerry has said that his first memory is from when he was three years old, of holding his crying mother’s hand while they walked through the broken glass and rubble of her childhood home in Saint-Briac, France. This visit came two and a half years after the United States had liberated Saint-Briac from the Nazis on August 14, 1944. The family estate, known as Les Essarts, had been occupied and used as a Nazi headquarters during the war. When the Germans abandoned it, they bombed Les Essarts and burned it down.

The sprawling estate was rebuilt in 1954. Kerry and his parents would often spend the summer holidays there. During these summers, he became good friends with his first cousin Brice Lalonde, a future Socialist and Green Party leader in France, who ran for president of France in 1981.

While his father was stationed at the U.S. Embassy in Oslo, Norway, Kerry was sent to Massachusetts to attend boarding school. In 1957, he attended the Fessenden School in West Newton, a village in Newton, Massachusetts. The Fessenden School is the oldest all-boys independent junior boarding school in the country. There he met and became friends with Richard Pershing, grandson of First World War U.S. Gen. John Joseph Pershing. Former Massachusetts senator Ted Kennedy also attended the Fessenden School, although several years prior to Kerry.

The following year, he enrolled at St. Paul’s School in Concord, New Hampshire, and graduated from there in 1962. Kerry learned skills in public speaking and began developing interest in politics. In his free time, he enjoyed ice hockey and lacrosse, which he played on teams captained by classmate Robert S. Mueller III, the current director of the FBI. Kerry also played bass guitar for the prep school’s band The Electras, which produced an album in 1961. Only five hundred copies were made—one was auctioned on eBay in 2004 for $2,551.

In 1959, Kerry founded the John Winant Society at St. Paul’s to debate the issues of the day; the Society still exists there.[11][12] In November 1960, Kerry gave his first political speech, in favor of John F. Kennedy’s election to the White House.

In 1962, Kerry was a volunteer for Ted Kennedy’s first Senatorial campaign. The summer after his graduation from St. Paul’s, he dated Janet Jennings Auchincloss, First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy’s half-sister. Auchincloss invited Kerry to visit her family’s estate, Hammersmith Farm, in Rhode Island where Kerry met President John F. Kennedy for the first time.

According to Kerry, when he told the president he was about to enter Yale University, Kennedy grimaced, because he had gone to rival Harvard University. Kerry later recalled, “He smiled at me, laughed and said: ‘Oh, don’t worry about it. You know I’m a Yale man too now.’” According to Kerry “The President uttered that famous comment about how he had the best of two worlds now: a Harvard education and Yale degree”, in reference to the honorary degree he had received from Yale a few months earlier. Later that day, a White House photographer snapped a photo of Kerry sailing with Kennedy and his family in Narragansett Bay”
    .
Yeah, just one of those handsome poor boys born on the wrong side of the tracks Summering in France and going off to boarding school and sailing with the Kennedys, John Kerry had to marry money to get ahead.

Kerry was from such an unconnected, nowhere family, he must have had a hard time meeting such women:
    .
“Kerry is the child of Richard J. Kerry (1915–2000), a Foreign Service Officer and an attorney for the Bureau of United Nations Affairs, and Rosemary Forbes Kerry (1913–2002), a World War II nurse and member of the wealthy Scottish-American Forbes family. He has three siblings: two sisters, Diana (born in 1947) and Margerie (aka Peggy; born in 1941) and a brother, Cameron (born in 1950), Cameron Kerry was picked to be Barack Obama’s general counsel of the Commerce Department.[3]

His immediate family members were reportedly observant Roman Catholics. As a child, Kerry served as an altar boy. Although the extended family enjoyed a great fortune, Kerry’s parents themselves were upper-middle class; a wealthy great aunt paid for Kerry to attend elite schools in Europe and New England. Kerry spent his summers at the Forbes family estate in Brittany, and there, he enjoyed a more opulent lifestyle than he had previously known in Massachusetts. While living in the U.S., Kerry spent several summers at the Forbes family’s estates on Naushon Island off Cape Cod.[citation needed]

Through his maternal grandmother, Margaret Tyndal Winthrop, John Kerry is distantly related to four U.S. Presidents, including George W. Bush,[4] to the first American female writer Anne Bradstreet, to Massachusetts Bay Colony founder and first Governor John Winthrop, and to various royals and nobles in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa.[5]

It was discovered in 2003 by genealogist Felix Gundacker,[6] working with The Boston Globe, that Kerry’s paternal grandparents, who had been born “Fritz Kohn” and “Ida Löwe” in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, changed their names to “Frederick and Ida Kerry” in 1900 and converted from Judaism to Roman Catholicism in 1901[7][8] or 1902.[9] Fritz’ elder brother Otto had earlier, in 1887[8] or 1896,[6] also changed his name to “Kerry” and converted from Judaism, presumably to escape violent antisemitism. The “Kerry” name, widely misinterpreted as indicative of Irish heritage, was reputedly selected arbitrarily: “According to family legend, Fritz and another family member opened an atlas at random and dropped a pencil on a map. It fell on County Kerry in Ireland, and thus a name was chosen.”[7][9] Leaving the suburb of Vienna where they had lived since 1896, Fred and Ida, together with their son Eric, immigrated to the United States in 1905, living at first in Chicago and eventually moving to Brookline, Massachusetts by 1915.[7]

The village where Fritz Kohn was born in 1873 was at that time known as Bennisch and was a part of Silesia in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, but is today known as Horní Benešov in the Czech Republic.[8] After learning of his ancestral connection with their village, the mayor and citizens sent congratulatory correspondence to John Kerry with regard to his political pursuits.[8]

For a time, Fred Kerry was a prosperous and successful shoe merchant, and Ida and two of the children, Richard (who would become the father of John Kerry) and Mildred, were able to afford to travel to Europe in the autumn of 1921, returning on October 21.[7] A few weeks later, on November 15, Fred Kerry filed a will leaving everything to Ida and then, on November 23, walked into a washroom of the Copley Plaza Hotel in Boston and committed suicide by shooting himself in the head with a handgun.[7] The suicide was front-page news in all of the Boston newspapers, reporting at the time that the motive was severe asthma and related health problems, but modern reports cite family sources saying that the motive was financial trouble: “He had made three fortunes and when he had lost the third fortune, he couldn’t face it anymore”, according to granddaughter Nancy Stockslager.[7]

John Kerry has said that although he knew his paternal grandfather had come from Austria, he did not know until informed by The Boston Globe on the basis of their genealogical research that Fred Kerry had changed his name from “Fritz Kohn” and had been born Jewish,[9] nor that his great-uncle and great-aunt, Ida Kerry’s brother Otto and sister Jenni, died in Nazi concentration camps.[6]”

Kerry’s father’s family is part Jewish. He is mostly wasp and got all of this “Frenchy” nickname, etc, from his family spending time there, not his ancestry.

Kerry like most Liberals donates little to Charity.
    .
Who Really Cares About The Poor?
    .
    Liberals or Conservative?
    .
Liberals are always saying how uncaring Conservatives are and how they don’t care about the poor. The Demonizing and name calling goes on and on.
    .
Maybe for a change we should look at the Real Facts.
    .
    – People who reject the idea that “government has a responsibility to reduce income inequality” give an average of four times more money to charity than people who accept that proposition.
    .
liberals, if you have the courage read the facts. If you lack courage stick your heads in the sand.
    .
    See link.
    http://www.startribune.com/opinion/commentary/17032146.html
    .
In 2000, brows were furrowed because Vice President Al Gore’s charitable contributions, as a percentage of his income, were below the national average: He gave 0.2 percent of his family income, one-seventh of the average for donating households. But Gore “gave at the office.” By using public office to give other peoples’ money through government programs, he was being charitable, as liberals conveniently understand that word.
    .
I don’t have Gore’s or Kerry’s kind of money but my wife and I give 50% of our income to charity each year.
I’m retired and my children no longer need my assistance which allows me this opprtunity to be charitable. I realize many of you are not in that sitauation.

  • js112

I don’t doubt the numbers, but as it says in the article, most of the conservatives are Christians. I am guessing that the majority of what they give goes to their Church, which then uses most of the money to pay bills, pay the pastor, etc. The leftover that actually goes to help people in need or to a charity is the only thing that should be counted as a donation in my opinion (in the context you are using it). I would like to see the numbers broken out to see how much of the money goes to help people and how much goes to fund a church’s operations.

After reading PNNTO’s commentary, I decided to take the extra time to see what that article said.
    .
I do not disagree with even the smaller details, it is a positively damning article, with links, that parallels my long lived and oft repeated contentions about endemic racism in the GOP.
    .
To fill in the gap between the events during the Civil Rights era I offer this:
    .
After garnering success after success in the ’70s until just before Obama’s election (that watershed was the rapid fire condemnation of the racial hatred riding Sarah Palin’s wave by both Colin Powell and McCain himself), the old strategies embodied by the ‘angry white male’ (’70s to the ’90s), and ‘Southern Strategy’ (’90s to 2008), the current strategies have begun to crumble.
    .
The Williams eviction is the first time any GOP based organization has ever evicted someone for racially charged rhetoric. It is another bump in their continuing death spiral. They will not go quietly.
    .
What has not been addressed is the single biggest product of all those years of racially motivated propaganda: GOP based theories* about the makeup, mechanics, and motivations of the Black community.
    .
They represent the biggest urban myth of all…
    .
    *These urban myths are:
    1. The Black community votes Dem because they’ve been duped or brainwashed.
    2. The Black community is only looking for handouts.
    .
No need to doubt this is what they think:
    .

“For the last several years, Sean Hannity and the Freedom Alliance “charity” have conducted “Freedom Concerts” across America. They’ve told you that they are raising money to pay for the college tuition of the children of fallen soldiers and to pay severely wounded war vets. And on Friday Night, Hannity will be honored with an award for this “Outstanding Community Service by a Radio Talk Show Host” at Talkers Magazine’s convention.

But it’s all a huge scam.

    freedomconcerthannity

In fact, less than 20%–and in two recent years, less than 7% and 4%, respectively–of the money raised by Freedom Alliance went to these causes, while millions of dollars went to expenses, including consultants and apparently to ferry the Hannity posse of family and friends in high style. And, despite Hannity’s statements to the contrary on his nationally syndicated radio show, few of the children of fallen soldiers got more than $1,000-$2,000, with apparently none getting more than $6,000, while Freedom Alliance appears to have spent tens of thousands of dollars for private planes. Moreover, despite written assurances to donors that all money raised would go directly to scholarships for kids of the fallen heroes and not to expenses, has begun charging expenses of nearly $500,000 to give out just over $800,000 in scholarships.”

    .
With up to 96% of the money going to Hannity, by comparison, paying that amount in additional taxes is an extreme bargain.
    .
    Wonderful man that Hannity. huh?

“The loons on the left have also pi$$ed and moaned about how unfair Fox News is quoting the supposed bias of Fox. The difference here is that Glenn Beck, Bill O’Reilly, and Shawn Hannity do NOT portray themselves at all at being a “reporter” or “journalist”….
    .
The same cannot ever be said about Joe Klein.

    .
If you are suggesting that the liberals on this site believe everything Joe Klein says, you really haven’t been paying attention.
    .
But you bring up a very good point. The fact that you and your ilk credulously consume every false word of unaccomplished, uncredentialed hacks who admit up front that they shouldn’t be taken as seriously as journalists, while liberals tend to treat every single authoritative voice with skepticism, if not outright antipathy (see Zechman/Rich above), explains everything about why liberals have a clue, compared with your moronic, easily-disproved beliefs, resulting from your authoritarian-following psychopathology. It’s a mental illness called “I only trust FOX News” and it now describes most of the Republican Party.

  • http://patricksartor.wordpress.com patricksartor

“According to Google’s figures, if donations to all religious organizations are excluded, liberals give slightly more to charity than conservatives do. But Mr. Brooks says that if measuring by the percentage of income given, conservatives are more generous than liberals even to secular causes.

In any case, if conservative donations often end up building extravagant churches, liberal donations frequently sustain art museums, symphonies, schools and universities that cater to the well-off. (It’s great to support the arts and education, but they’re not the same as charity for the needy. And some research suggests that donations to education actually increase inequality because they go mostly to elite institutions attended by the wealthy.)”
    .
    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/21/opinion/21kristof.html?em
    .
So, remove churches and Liberals give more.
    .
So, as getting the government to feed the poor and unconcerned about huge churches, liberals want museums.
    .
So, who care about what is the real question, 3X, not who cares more.

    From Apr article:
    .
“In the conservative world, we call such people Fox News. (Just kidding, guys, but really.)

Today, Ezra Klein is a ripened 26-year-old Washington Post blogger — hired as a known liberal — who makes trenchant observations about health care and other complicated policy issues. Klein is young, in other words, and could be seen as relatively inexperienced in the world of which he has precipitously become a pretty high-level moving part. Today he is best known — in certain quarters — for his role in creating Journolist, which is being characterized as the locus of left-wing conspiracy.

The story, such as it is, was broken by conservative Tucker Carlson’s Daily Caller, a newish Web site where a number of my friends happen to write. And a former reporter was on the benighted Journolist.
    ad_icon

It is no fun writing about friends and colleagues, but I think perspective is needed here.

Carlson has been making the news rounds with his traffic-driving story; appearing on Fox News, where he is a contributor; and criticizing journalists who posted comments suggesting that they were teaming up to advance a policy agenda and, more specifically, to get Barack Obama elected president.

It should come as no surprise that self-identifying liberals have liberal thoughts and friends, so no foul there, as Carlson has said. And, indeed, some of the comments are, on their face, condemnable, not to mention banal. But some also have been presented out of context and, besides, were offered as part of an ongoing argument among colleagues who believed they were acting in good faith that theirs was a private conversation. ”

    .
If you dislike being called a Nazi (which I am sure you do) since it is the far, far, far most extreme right wing ideology but not appropriate to you, then you should grasp not to call liberals communists (which communists are the far, far, far left wing far beyond any of us).

“I read your link to Debbie Schussel’s article. I also Goggled Sean Hannity Freedom Concert and I was unable to find any articles from any MSM sources.”
    .
I found this woman’s article through Google, but do not know much about her.
    .
I once worked for a company which raised money for non-profits. After bonuses I went from the $8 per hour base to $11.50 an hour (and was told I should get into sales elsewhere since I was good at it right away) where we proudly said, when asked, that 85% of the money went to the charity and, including my pay, 15% went to administration. There are a huge number of charities where the numbers are reversed as in 85% for administration and 15% for the cause.
    .
One of the best exceptions for charities with low overhead are ones run by the Roman Catholic Church.
    .
One of the worst are police charities where it has been approximately what Schussel claims Hannity does.
    .
If you double checked all of your conservative blog/talk radio/ Fox sources of information the same way, you will discover that Fox and the far right are very prone to, at the very least, making a mountain out of mole hill.
    .
The Kerry story is enough to make any senator blush, but, unless they are neck in neck with another candidate or extremely similar to their competitor is not going to push an election.
    .
Yes, I agree that it was not good that Kerry used a tax break which is legal but denies his own state revenue, but do to the legal nature of it and how Newport, RI is a common sailing destination in New England, I am not floored by it.
    .
It is a matter of degrees, not of general substance. I hope Kerry does change the registration of his ship, but, if he does not, it is not like committing murder or, more importantly in elections, having the government do exactly the opposite of what the people want.

  • 53_3

It’s not ‘you arrogance’ unless you’re addressing yourself.
    .
By the way, you still have yet to lay out the “principles” you mentioned when you turned your nose up at Black conservative voters..

    .
    Patrick,
    .
“If you dislike being called a Nazi (which I am sure you do) since it is the far, far, far most extreme right wing ideology”.
    .
That staement is not fact but the opinion of liberals. Coservatives believe that Nazism or National Socialism is a Liberal idealogy. Is that a fact. No it’s an opinion. Is either opinions true. Probably not.
    .
Too often people on both sides of the political spectrum confuse Facts with Opinions or Perceptions. Individuals on both sides often feel so passionately about the opinions and perceptions that they honestly believe them to be facts.
Facts are Facts. Opinions are Opinions no matter how much we believe or want them to be facts.
    .
“Journolist: a group of third-way and liberal academics and opinion columnists who already are going to write all of their opinions in their own third way or, sometimes, liberal way exchange ideas with no bind or obligation to one another.”
    .
This is false. If you took the time to read the e-mail conversations shown on “The Daily Caller” you would know that. You may not like the source but the e-mail conversations speak for themselves. Journalists on Journolist conpired to do what the could to help Obama and the Democratic ticket. That is not the proper role for Journalist in a Democracy and if violates the Journalist creed.
    .
They knowingly conspired to marginalize the storys about Rev Wright for fear it would hurt Obama’s election. They conspired to harm the Republican ticket by planning strategies to attack Palin and McCain. Per their e-mails they were not looking for facts but to make up stuff to make McCain and Palin look bad and improve Obama’s image.
    .
Patrick, I know you are young, but you can’t really believe that this is the proper role of journalists in a free Democratic Society. It’s what we might expect in a Dictatorship or in Venauala, not in the USA.
    .
Patrick you are an intelligent person but you spent way too much time defending the undefendable. Read Stuart’s comment post 19.2 . He is an honest person who will not defend the undefendable simply because they are Liberals or Left in their views.
    .
You will notice I did not come to Sean Hannity’s defense simply because he is a Conservative. I will attempt to get at the truth and then let the chips fall where they may.
    .
You on the other hand will defend your position even when it is obvious you are wrong. An example, you continue to say that FOX broadcast the Sherrod video before she was fired. Even the MSM and other TV News shows who originally made those statements have now announced that they were mistaken and she was fired before FOX ran the video clips. The FOX Opinion Commutators appoligized the next day to Mrs. Sherrod for running the story after she was fired.

  • 53_3

    3xfire3:
    .
O’Reilly, a racist commentator on FOX (I could show that ‘Fall of White Power’ video, but I’ll let everyone else look that up), praised Breitbarts’ upcoming airing of the video and called for Sherrod’s resignation before she was asked to resign by the Obama administration!

    Patrick,
    .
This is what I’m talking about in the prior post.
    .
“So, the idea that Fox was never condemning Sherrod is just plain false.
    .
What hour of the day that this happened is not easy to find online. I would need that notorious left wing publication TV Guide to find that out.”
    .
No One said Fox did not condemn Sherrod’s comments before the video of the full speech came out. Remember so did the NAACP and the DOA.
    .
Bill O’Reilly is on at 8:00pm and 12:00am each night. If you really wanted to know this you certainly could find out.
    .
As you know Sherrod was fired in the afternoon.
    .
You hurt your cedibility when you continue making the same statements which most people know are false. You can’t rely on Google for all of your research.
    .

    .
You have no understanding or respect for Truth. You are a total Ideologue who knows nothing but Hate for anyone who does not share your warped political views.
    .
This is a major problem in swampland that Liberals do not condemn people like you who do much harm to the Liberal cause.

  • 3xfire3

    IQ53,
    .
A Lie, is a Lie, is a Lie. I watched your link and no matter how you Spin it, it is still a FACT that FOX did not run the video on the air for people to see until after Sherrod was fired.
    .
Even if the show was filmed ahead of time at 5:00pm, it was still after Sherrod had been fired.
    .
The Truth will set you free. Lies will send you to hell.
    .
    You are one sick puppy.

  • http://patricksartor.wordpress.com patricksartor

I posted this already, but, you refused to watch Bill O’Rielly recommend during his “fact check” July 19th 2010.
    .

    .
    Watch it again!
    .
The next, actually, Billy makes a point that I did and uses an excerpt from an interview with Joe Biden: some members of the Tea Party, not the Tea Party itself, are racist and this is something the non-racist members of the Tea Party has not condemned (as of July 19th) and should.
    .
The words under O’Rielly’s face tell you that her termination was being made public during the same time he was recommending her termination.
    .
What was said earlier in the day on Fox I can not be sure without doing an inordinate amount of research.
    .
The point being: Fox was working to terminate Sherrod even though it was unfair.
    .
If they were held to the standards of CBS but somewhat milder, O’Rielly, instead of termination, should have a long term suspension.
    .
    Nope!
    .
That is because Fox advocates a POV, not news nor facts.

  • http://patricksartor.wordpress.com patricksartor

“I don’t think you’re a racist,” Dean said to Fox News host Chris Wallace, “but Fox News did something that was absolutely racist. They had an obligation to find out what was really in the clip. They had been pushing a theme of black racism with this phony Black Panther crap and this business and this Sotomayor and all this other stuff.”

Wallace responded that Fox did not air the footage until the USDA had already forced Sherrod to resign. Howard Kurtz, a media critic for the Washington Post and a CNN contributor, has noted this is largely true except for comments from host Bill O’Reilly, who called for Sherrod’s ouster before the USDA official had formally resigned.

On his Monday show, O’Reilly praised conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart for disseminating the video and said the comments were “simply unacceptable.” He added.

“Ms. Sherrod must resign immediately.” While the show was tapped at 5 p.m. ET – before Sherrod resigned – it did not air until three hours later at which point she had in fact stepped down.”

“That staement is not fact but the opinion of liberals. Coservatives believe that Nazism or National Socialism is a Liberal idealogy.”
    .
Liberal: providing for the needy, underprivileged and disapproved or hated groups (new immigrants – from the Irish onward – blacks, Jews and, in the past twenty years, gays).
    .
Conservative: Flag waving, “our country is the best”.
    .
If Hitler was a liberal, he would be getting his picture taken with Jews (and not become a dictator since neither liberals nor conservatives believe it is acceptable to be dictator).
    .
100% of Hitler’s economic policy was for war preparation and nearly identical to what England had done when fighting against him (price controls, rationing, wage controls).
    .
3X, since 1941, when you, supposedly were three years old, conservatives, when being insulted, were being called “fascists” or “Nazis”.
    .
Fascists and Nazis were real people, but, were a slur against highly conservative people.
    .
The KKK has been aligned with Neo-Nazi groups and, during the war, the German-American Bund.
    .
If you take conservative ideals – love of country, military preparedness, breaking of church-state boundaries, opposition to organized labor, support of traditional life, National exceptionism and a higher tolerance for racism than liberals have – you have fascism.
    .
There is no way anybody can call Hitler similar to a liberal.
    .
Do not forget how the Nazis gained control of Germany: They were in a coalition government with the conservative parties of Germany. The conservative parties, not the liberal parties who Hitler had it’s members round up and shot after the fire at the Reichstag who supported him.
    .
If the Nazis were to the far left, they would have been aligned with Social Democrats and Communists, not murdering them.
    .
If they were a part of the far left, they would not have been aligned with conservatives, but murdering them the way the communists did.
    .
“”He who controls the present, controls the past. He who controls the past, controls the future.”
    — George Orwell
    .
Guess what, Fox is taking over your view of the past and taking over the future of discontent conservatives with complete lies.
    .
No, you are not lying, but, you are repeating lies you have been told.

  • http://patricksartor.wordpress.com patricksartor

“They knowingly conspired to marginalize the storys about Rev Wright for fear it would hurt Obama’s election. They conspired to harm the Republican ticket by planning strategies to attack Palin and McCain. Per their e-mails they were not looking for facts but to make up stuff to make McCain and Palin look bad and improve Obama’s image.”
    .
First, you have no reason to believe that these people did not believe that the Wright story was a complete waste of time. Since opinion writers as well as – with less leeway – political reporters (when they get to choose their assignments rather than being told by an editor, as editors work for conservative publishers and networks) are supposed to print what they believe is right, that they did not believe that they were doing the right thing.
    .
3X, I know you said that you’re family is Swiss. Swiss are Catholics. The Catholic Church has had a problem with 3% of of the clergy raping children. If your parish priest rapes a child and you, at first, believe his denial, does that mean that you support the rape of children?
    .
    No.
    .
If Wright has a sermon when Obama does not see it and in no way is influenced or caused by Obama, what does that say about Obama?
    .
    Nothing.
    .
Obama’s actions regarding race in the State Legislature of Illinois and in the US Senate tell you the truth (accurately) about how Obama feels about race: don’t open that can of worms and never make a false accusation.
    .
Second, you have no reason to believe that these people would have had a different opinion if they had not been in contact.
    .
So, these people were doing what they thought was right, emphasizing what they deemed to be important in their best judgment and shared notes about it.
    .
    Not a BFD.
    .
IMO, not doing anything more wrong than the Chamber of Commerce having a meeting or for you to exchange comments with fellow business executives in your own field.
    .
    Sorry, 3X.

  • http://patricksartor.wordpress.com patricksartor

    3X,
    .
If you want to gain some respect, let’s not treat this as the playground in Toledo in 1946 when you were eight years old and picking sides over who was going to throw sand at who.
    .
    Do not call 53_3 “IQ53″
    .
That should have stopped by 1948.
    .
When somebody sees racism when you do not, it is moronic to say, “No! You’re a Racist!”
    .
That is the same as, when I was a child (probably the same in 1946 but I will have to ask my mother, who is your age) “I’m rubber you’re glue! Whatever you say bounces off of me and sticks to you!”
    .
Saying that a Caucasian man with a long marriage to a black woman is an anti-white racist is absurd.
    .
If you say that he is overly sensitive to race, I will disagree with you, but, at least say that your concept makes sense.
    .
Do you think that 53_3, who is white, goes to other white people’s houses and burns crosses in their back yard?
    .
Do you think that, at work, he tries to never employ or promote whites in favor of blacks?
    .
Do you really think at all before you say some ridiculous school yard things your mother should have pulled you in the house by the ear for back in 1948 or does being online bring out your long lost ten year old inside of you?
    .
Watch children play in the school yard if you, unlike me, have totally forgotten what that is like. (Only 29 years for me, maybe that is why I remember being ten years old better than you do).
    .
Listen to them call each other dumb names.
    .
Then look at what you write and tell me that you are not acting in a way inappropriate for how old you were in 1948.

    Patrick:
    .
I would be willing to give everyone a break, provided they refrain from race baiting on Swampland. That’s basically my only goal.
    .
People like 3xfire3 embarrass themselves by trying to paint me as racist simply because I mention the Black community. It’s ridiculous. If I married someone of Japanese descent, and related my experience in the Japanese community, I would not hear one word from 3xfire3, Rusty, freeinpa, spob, earljr1, 2/3rdsrocks, textee, ilikechips or any others I can’t think of right now.
    .
That is why I am absolutely, unrelentingly harsh when they jump up with this bullsh!t. Notice I reserve the epithet ‘racist’ for Rusty only. There is a reason for this.
    .
One of the reasons is that many don’t know the Black community, and really don’t know what their talking about. Ok. That’s ignorant. But that type of ignorance is different than my ignorance of, say, the Japanese community.
    .
Why? Those whom I mentioned know that I really do know about the Black community, but they are playing to an all white audience. What Rusty, 3xfire3, et al are playing to are those white people who might happen to read Swampland.
    .
They are not really replying to me. They know what they are doing…

    .
We will miss you enormously. Wish you wouldn’t go.

However, if you refuse to attend to your duties on the 1,000 words blogs, we will have to beat you up.

  • http://patricksartor.wordpress.com patricksartor

    53_3,
    .
I know exactly what your situation is.
    .
I mentioned before that my hometown out in the suburbs was, with 18K people had only about a dozen black people (none of whom I knew since none were near my age) about 40 Latinos (but middle and upper income Latinos who’s parents were completely bilingual). After I had to to attempt to pay for my own education, everything changed where I was working and/or living in racially mixed places.
    .
What strikes me the most is the absence of difference. Just like white people, blacks, Latinos, Asians all want to work, want to learn to earn, want to provide better for their children, are humiliated if their children are involved in crime and want better for their neighborhoods.
    .
If you see things through Hollywood, there are the two contrasting images of MLK and of very exaggerated characters who like living in housing projects, etc, etc.
    .
One odd thing I discovered: both blacks and whites living in housing projects go way out of their way to own the nicest clothes that they can. This is to show off that they work hard, earn well and are on their way up and out. The idea of a minority, or anybody else for that matter, who wishes to stay on welfare is a right wing myth. Sure, maybe one in a hundred people on welfare may make remarks like that, but, most of even those very few people are very depressed from not finding a way out of their situation.
    .
The whole right wing concept of blacks wanting revenge is just off the wall. It is no more, probably less, common in the black community than the KKK is in the white community. People have jobs to work, schools to attend, children to take care of, etc, etc, racial revenge is just not a reality but just one of many right wing boogiemen.
    .
I find the overwhelming ignorance of the right wing the most frustrating to deal with. They invent their own facts, re-write history, re-write economics, re-write science and just create a world of denial which is impossible to debate with.
    .
As for 3X, he is like the little kid who is friends with the biggest bully who shoots his mouth of and then, when he starts getting clobbered cries to his big friend to come after everybody.
    .
Freeinpa seems to ride the edge of racism without being overt or specific, but, he just seems like a man filled with anger, jealousy and resentment.
    .
Groenhagen…. His favorite thing to bring up is that he served in the Marines during peacetime for three years from 1981 through 1984. That’s 17 years and he has nothing to say for himself. He must have had a miserable life and wants to blame liberals.
    .
    What a strange crew!

Correction: it is 27 years since 1983.

  • 53_3

    Patrick:
    .
What strikes me as truly funny is that they will sit there at their keyboards and tell me, someone who is 56, who has lived through that history, that I remember everything wrong and they know what really happened.
    .
    A-stonishing…

  • http://patricksartor.wordpress.com patricksartor

    53_3,
    .
I am not going even bring up the name of the one I found the most irritating but give him credit that he did not engage in ad hominem attacks, but had every single fact wrong.
    .
JFK, rewritten as both a Neocon and a complete and total sex maniac. (He cheated, which was awful, but he was not a sex addict with 50 different women a year or something.)
    .
Herbert Hoover, the General Custer of conservatives for decades to come, was re-written as a liberal.
    .
Now Nazis and other fascists, who’s constituency were fallen middle class and wealthy individuals who wanted to blame Jews and foreign influences with an rabid hatred for Communists, Social Democrats and Liberals are now re-written to be liberals.
    .
Supply side economics: never accepted as a school of economics at all and decimated by the post-Reagan Bush Sr. slump (which I remember very, very vividly during my college years as students and, even more so, blue collar workers wrote off the possibility of earning as much as their parents had – ever ) rewritten as a success.
    .
Already they are starting to re-write the financial meltdown as if it happened this year or last year rather than during Republican control and as a result of Republican failures.
    .
How about the whole world agreeing with us about WMD including all of the Democratic Party? That never happened! Many Democrats gave a reluctant vote for the War with the unwritten condition that we were going to get the UN to confirm our suspicions of WMD and most of the world thought we were totally insane.
    .
My favorite, Michael Steel pretending that Obama began the Afghan War.
    .
    It’s straight out of George Orwell’s 1984.
    .
How could anybody over the age of 20 possibly believe these things?
    .
For this one poster, I came back time and time again showing him more and more facts discrediting each and every one of those things he was saying (except Michael Steel’s allegation that Obama, a state senator in Illinois at the time was responsible for the Afghan War).
    .
Now I have to wonder if Republicans really want to see our history education improve if they win so many votes by rewriting history to those who never understood history to begin with.
    .
Remember when GWB after 9/11 reached out to a Democratic member of the Illinois State Legislature and asked him if we should go to Afghanistan or not?
    .
    Apparently Republicans do.
    .
