It’s a Conspiracy!

Glenn Beck’s ratings are sinking. Still too high, though, for the health of our democracy…but he’s giving all the signs of a fever fad, a one-trick pony.

The Phony War: Obama and Romney Are Debating Character, Not Policy

More than five months from Election Day, the back-and-forth about Mitt Romney’s record at Bain already feels played out. Unfortunately, there’s good reason to expect the campaign continues in this vein indefinitely. Neither Barack Obama nor Mitt Romney are terribly interested in dwelling on policy platforms. Romney’s plan to slash spending and keep taxes low on the wealthy isn’t especially popular, at least not at any level of detail beyond a blithe promise to shrink the deficit. Meanwhile, Obama’s signature first-term achievements, like health care, the stimulus and Wall Street reform, are all unpopular or tricky to sell. (The Dodd-Frank bill is the most popular of these, but hyping it means offending wealthy donors.) So what we’re getting instead is a superficial duel about character–and, worse, one that’s based on the largely false premise that the better man can better “manage” the economy back to health.

How will I ever retain my ruggedly independent tax cutting smaller government pro-American manhood!

It’s nice to see that the Lonesome Rhodes Cavalcade of Pants P!ssing Paranoia is losing viewers, it’s hard to get excited that he’s simply losing ground to his slightly-less-crazy fellow travelers on Faux News. Meh.

I hate to feel good about the failure of another, but, just as I do not feel bad about seeing in History channel documentaries the failures of enemy Armies fighting the US, I do not mind feeling good about Glen Beck preaching nonsense, paranoia and baseless anger, I do not mind feeling good about his loosing ground.

Has he considered infomercials as an alternative line of work?

I think I know what’s going on. All of those unemployed ACORN staffers are teaming up with the Black Panthers and are invading people’s homes and keeping them from watching the Beckster. I mean, after all, they can’t help pimps do their taxes anymore and there aren’t any elections going on.

I expect an exclusive, undercover video expose from James O’Keefe on Megyn Kelly’s show any day now.

Truthers? Are there any Falsers out there?

  • newfreedomblog

Oh my God!! Beck’s ratings are falling……falling……falling below those of his fellow Fox News cable shows. What Joe doesn’t point out is that Glenn not only wins his time slot by over whelming percentages.
    .
Put a different spin on it and Mr Klein, the chicken-little of TIME.com has no answers.
    .
As the ratings show from Neilson, Beck out performs any other show at the 5PM time slot. His book sales are not only through the roof, but he has had at least FIVE best selling books over the past year. And, he has the number 2 radio program in the USA. Any book Beck recommends for reading, even if it is a history book immediately outsells any other book when he reviews the book on his TV program.
    .
How many best sellers have you penned Mr Klein? Oh that’s right, ONE. Yea, keep up the great work Joe Klein, one day YOU may be a record setting best seller too, just like Glenn.

  • nflfoghorn

We have met “Network,” and it is Flox.

  • nflfoghorn

And he hands out goodie bags to all the kiddies, and he dresses up as Santa for all the rich kids at the Mall of America, and in one hour he makes more money than I do in a whole year! Of COURSE he’s better than Joe!

  • nflfoghorn

Not to mention that he HATES those New Black Panthers!!! ;)

  • nflfoghorn

“…His book sales are not only through the roof, but he has had at least FIVE best selling books over the past year”
    .
PT Barnum was more right than he ever imagined.

…but he’s giving all the signs of a fever fad, a one-trick pony.
    .
No worries. Beck will start pulling some more petty grotesqueries from his sleeve in an attempt to boost ratings…at least until he goes way over the line.
    .
Same thing Ann Coulter did before losing relevance.

  • 53_3

“Any book Beck recommends for reading, even if it is a history book immediately outsells any other book when he reviews the book on his TV program.”

    Fantasy books always sell better.

  • 1steve2

    You too.

  • 1steve2

He’s a geek, someone who bites the heads off of live chickens for money.

  • m0mentom0ri

    Rusty, as usual is wrong.
    .
He outperforms other cable news shows at 5p. In other words he’s in first place amongst a race of 3. And one of those 3 is in fewer number of channel packages.
    .
And for further comparison: The Weather Channel averages 1.2 million viewers at 5p. The network news broadcasts go from 6.7 million (NBC) to about 5 million (CBS) per episode. Time magazine has a weekly circ of about 3 million, or about the same as Playboy does per month.
    .
But considering Beck’s most famous quote is about Obama having a deep-seated hatred of white people, its no surprise that Racist Rusty is a big fan and defender. Birds of a feather.

  • paschendale1917

Did you just compare Ozzy Ozbourne to Beckster? Ozzy should be appalled. One’s a half-wit raving maniac on too many prescription drugs and the other one was part of Black Sabbath.

  • m0mentom0ri

One of those books is The Red Network, a racist and anti-semitic manifesto of right-wing thinking.
    .
From the book that Glen Beck recommends:
    .
“God created separate races, but Communism insists upon racial inter-mixture.”
    .
No wonder Racist Rusty is such fan of Glen Beck.

ROTFLMAO.. Tell your base what you THINK will make them happy.. HOWEVER here’s the test look up at what Glenn has been saying, then look up what the DEMOCRATS are trying to convince people is going on (and that would include OBAMA) and compare.. SORRY.. the DEMS (and OBAMA) LOSES.. actually for SUMMER ratings and his time slot he is making a MONKEY out of ALL OTHER cable and MSM ratings.. WHICH BTW have tanked with the summer months.. YOU,, should research what you write.. ALL stations ratings go down in the summer.. I am sorry but it appears common sense and honesty from the left does not exist.. It’s buried with HOPE.. all that’s left is PROPAGANDA

  • sacredh

Let’s give Ozzy a break. Once he figured out what a piker he was compared to Limbaugh regarding drug use, he hit the straight and narrow.

    Monday, July 12, 2010, 5 p.m.

    Beck – 2,076,000 viewers

    Blitzer – 549,000 viewers

    Matthews – 592,000 viewers

    http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/ratings/the_scoreboard_monday_july_12_167517.asp#more

Beck has four times as many viewers as Blitzer and four times as many viewers as nut job leftist conspiracy theorist Matthews, and brainless moron Joe Klein concludes that Beck’s ratings are “sinking”! A-Mess-NBC should have Klein join its parade of leftist human debris with his own nightly freakshow.

  • 53_3

So does that make your “audience” bigger than mine?

  • http://djtrudeau.wordpress.com djtrudeau

But it’s still not a big number in terms of television viewing. Right-wing programs always bring in the larger amount of viewers (same as radio).

I think the issue being addressed, in terms of broadcasting and long term success in it, is whether Beck has staying power. Only time will tell, but I don’t know that he has the talent of someone like Rush Limbaugh to stay on the radar at the level he has. I severely dislike Rush and his politics, but he’s never been the shrieking, hysterical show man that Beck is. That’s why he’s lasted.

I know this comment will bounce off you, but I thought the discussion needed an objective perspective.

  • swissArmyBrainBETA

congratulations on having never seen his show! its actually already a giant infomercial for gold and ridiculous books

Beck’s ratings are/were high for cable news. He was never much of a force overall. But the media watches and writes about the media, rather than gathering and reporting the news.

Hannah Montana on the Disney Network pulls just under 5 million, just ahead of Spongebob Squarepants.

In the span of just a few hours earlier this week, Beck managed to debunk his own media conspiracy revolving around the dubious New Black Panther (non) story.

There’s a scary thought – Rushster scared Ozzy straight.

I think we need to have a heads-to-heads committee hearing with rock stars facing off against the right wing bloviators reminiscent of the Tipper Gore music lyrics hearings way back when. Put up Gene Simmons, Dee Snider against Rush and Glenn. Let ‘er rip! The losers go off TV forever.

  • 1steve2

Actually, Ozzy Ozbourne is a little after my time. But let me apologize because you’re right.Beck and Limbaugh have raised BS artistry to a new level.

Indeed – now if we could just go get Ozzy to take a leak against the local Fox affiliate building…

  • sacredh

“Hannah Montana and Spongebob Squarepants are smarter than Glenn Beck”
    .
So is Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog but we’re getting OT.

  • sacredh

“Indeed – now if we could just go get Ozzy to take a leak against the local Fox affiliate building…”
    .
The way Fox distorts reality, they’d claim that they are so blessed by God that even the showers are golden.

  • shepherdwong

“Still too high, though, for the health of our democracy…”
    .
Then why don’t you call out FOX!? They’re the ones giving this lying nut job air. If it’s bad for the republic then you ought to have the guts to describe the root of the problem, rather than picking cheap, easy targets that never address the real problem. FOX can keep airing this traitorous crap forever and they don’t need Beck to do it. See: Sarah Palin.

  • kathy

My favorite Beckism this week was when (KO showed a clip) Beck was inferring some kind of conspiracy because his staff couldn’t dig up any footage of Robert Byrd fillibustering the Civil Rights Act, apparently not realizing the implications of cameras not being allowed in the senate chamber (photographs still not allowed). Um, C-Span wasn’t around in 1964

  • Ike Jakson

Well documented and well said textee.

  • apr2563

His whole show is an informational. He sells gold, his books (that he does not write or even participate in the writing, his Beck University classes (ummmm), t shirts, hats, tickets to his appearances. That is what con men do. If you want to see him desecrate the Lincoln Memorial on the anniversary of MLKs “I have a dream speech” you must buy tickets. The money first goes to Beck and Palin as speakers, what is left will be donated.
    .
Hopefully, some people are catching on to Lonesome Rhodes> Elmer Ganry> Beck. Usually snake oil salesmen rode into town and got out before their con game was discovered. Where will Beck go next? Almost all of the DJ jobs he had he was so offensive he soon wore out his welcome. Maybe there is hope.

For a bit to light entertainment check out this hilarious essay about the difficulties encountered by a B.U. graduate (that’s Beck — not Boston — University):

    http://www.mcclatchydc.com/2010/07/13/97345/commentary-glenn-becks-truth.html

  • bobcn1

Rats! That was supposed to be ‘For a bit of…”.
    .
Here’s a clip from the essay:

The eager face fell like a refrigerator from a moving truck. “You’re firing me?”

“I have no choice. Your work, well…it hasn’t been up to the standard we expect for an editor at Merryweather Publishing. Frankly, I’m surprised. When I saw that you were a graduate of BU, I couldn’t wait to hire you. Boston University turns out some great students.”

“I didn’t go to Boston University,” Harvey said.

“Baylor, then. Still a great school.”

    “I didn’t go to Baylor.”

“But your resume says you graduated BU.”

A proud smile. “Yes, sir. That’s Beck University.”

Augustus was confused. “I’ve never heard of…”

“Beck University!” said Harvey, the smile widening. “You know, Glenn Beck? He has that show on CNN. Also, that novel, that other book, that radio program, that standup act, that line of athletic shoes and that cologne. He founded an online university back in 2010 so people could learn the real truth they don’t get in your so-called ‘universities.’” He made air quotes.

“So, when you rejected that Martin Luther King biography because it didn’t mention how white conservatives started the civil rights movement…”

A sharp nod. “I learned that at Beck U.”

“And when you told the author of that book on religion that ‘pinko commie’ is the preferred term for preachers who talk about social and economic justice…”

    “Beck U.”

“And when you asked why there was no reference to Nazi death panels euthanizing children in that book on health care reform…”

    “Yes, sir! Beck U.”

Augustus sank back into his chair. “Beck me,” he muttered.

  • sacredh

I haven’t been able to find a clip of the Crucifiction either but people still believe. Go figure.

  • artraveler

I thought it was spelled FAUX.

  • swez2

His TV show is on opposite General Hospital west coast 2PM. Soap operas have better ratings than he.

  • maverick2k9

That is what con men do. If you want to see him desecrate the Lincoln Memorial on the anniversary of MLKs “I have a dream speech” you must buy tickets.

As a bonus, Rusty has already paid for his ticket to this rally :)

    …crucifixion? Here ya go…

  • http://2thirdsrocks.wordpress.com 2thirdsrocks

Hmm. Sinking huh? So when his viewership still outnumbers all the other commentators combined, in that time slot, what term would you use to describe their ratings?
    .
Klein, you never fail to amuse.

  • http://miermj.wordpress.com miermj

I’m confused. His ratings are sinking, but his ratings are still higher than the other 3 combined?

So, being #1 in your time slot is a bad thing?

If his ratings are tanking, what are you saying about the other shows below him?

  • patrickmf

I saw Beck a few times on CNN. My impression of him…. if it was 1950′s / 60′s I would see Beck wearing white sheets, terrorizing people and Biil Reilly cheering the Klan on…. just a waste of skin and full of sh_t.
