What If Alvin Greene Wins?

Sure it’s a longshot. An asteroid-hitting-the-earth sort of longshot, even. But just imagine if Jim DeMint were to have, say, some terrible skeleton in his closet that emerges a few days before the election. This man would then become a U.S. Senator:

But precious as a Senate seat may be, would the freakshow sure to ensue be worth it for Democrats? I suspect the White House isn’t exactly losing sleep over this question, but it’s still a funny thought experiment.

P.S. And this, from the Washington Post may be the quote of the year:

“I’m the Democratic Party nominee,” Greene says in the interview at his father’s home on a lonely stretch of rural highway in central South Carolina. “The people have spoken. The people of South Carolina have spoken. The people of South Carolina have spoken. We have to be pro-South Carolina. The people of South Carolina have spoken. We have to be pro-South Carolina.”

Are we sure this guy isn’t engaging in some kind of postmodern socio-political performance art? If so he’s pretty good at it….
