Romney Defends Bain Record, Hits Obama on Economy: ‘He Just Doesn’t Have a Clue’

Mitt Romney lashed President Obama’s economic stewardship in an interview with TIME’s Mark Halperin on Wednesday, deflecting attacks on his years as a private equity executive and laying out how he hopes to take control of the economy as soon as he’s sworn in, should he defeat Obama in November.

Mother of Mitt: How Lenore Romney’s Failed Campaign Shaped the Presumptive Republican Nominee

This week’s TIME cover story, “The Mother of the Mitt Campaign,” tells the tale of how Lenore Romney’s 1970 run for U.S. Senate may have made a bigger impression on the Republican presidential candidate than his years spent as the son of a governor. Mitt’s father lost his own presidential bid, but it was the lessons from his mother’s loss that are more instructive as Romney enters the campaign stretch.

“…and on June 16th we’ll have an oil castle-building contest.”

  • nflfoghorn

“That girl’s rump was THIS LOW to the ground.”

  • deconstructiva

Great minds; I had a similar thought: Obama tries to build a sand castle but it won’t hold together thanks to the oil.

  • libertard

“So, you dig a hole, then put your head in it?”

  • deconstructiva

Then again, the oil sands make it much easier to dig for clams.

  • earljr1

If you dig right here, this is where I buried my “change you can believe in” rhetoric…..or perhaps a “bucket of broken promises”, so we can better enjoy our day at the beach.

  • deconstructiva

Thanks, Kate. Do add your own captions please (like KT has); share your humor with us.
    .
Obama holds out his hand for the cameras. That’s where he wrote down the Sestak job offer.

  • nflfoghorn

‘Ever hear of White Castle? This is the opposite of that :)

  • allthingsinaname

Someplace near here is a sand flea named earl.

  • kevin

Obama really broke your heart with that campaign slogan, didn’t he?
    .
Sssh, earl. It’ll be alright. No more tears, princess. No more tears.

  • deconstructiva

Good comparison. I eat at White Castle often …and Krystal too when touring the South.

  • nflfoghorn

Slightly OT: Was the lady from MMS fired or did she resign? And why hasn’t it been cleared up about what the prez knew about it and when did he know it?

  • nflfoghorn

    Krystal. That’s what I’m talkin’ ’bout! :)

Obama shows packages of BP’s latest goodwill gesture (just out of camera range; Kate, please find the pix showing these, thx) – free seafood for affected Gulf residents. These include canned tuna prepared in oil, precooked shrimp scampi (oil provided), frying oil, oil / vinegar dressing w/ portobello mushrooms (looks black but blame the mushrooms, not the oil)*, etc.
    .
*you have to remove the gills from those ‘shrooms or they turn the food black (doesn’t affect taste but looks horrible)

    Obama Politicizes Oil Spill
    .
President Obama made the pledge to “Take the Politics out of Science and Restore Science to its Rightful Place”
    .
He assembled a group of superstar scientist to figure out a way to clean up the giant oil mess in the gulf. The Department of Energy selected five scientists who were considered the best of the best, of the Oil Spill Remediation Community.
    .
This blue ribbon committee of experts had their first meeting 2 weeks ago in Huston. One week later one of the scientist was dropped from the committee.
    .
The administration had found out that Professor Jonathan Katz of Washington University had written articles stating his views against Affirmative Action and diversity. Professor Katz believes if we are to achieve the very best outcomes we must use the best people available and do the best job humanly possible. He is also anti gay.
    .
While it would be understandable for the President to not want Dr.Katz as part of his ongoing administration, it would seem counter productive to drop Dr. Katz, a Physics Genius from this committee tasked with stopping and cleaning up the greatest environmental crisis we have ever had as a country.
    .
What if his contribution could have made a major difference in this crisis? Should we lose his genus simply because we may disagree with his political views?
    .
I don’t subscribe to Dr Katz’s anti gay beliefs, but I would not exclude him from this committee in the middle of an emergency of this level.

I thought earl was crying because he found out his university paycheck is partially paid with public research funds (how an entire medical staff can be 100% privately paid these days is another matter).I guess even The Ragnar Danneskjold Institute of Philosophy and Medical Research™ sold out. Maybe those derivatives they invested in didn’t pan out. Memo to the board of trustees: do NOT buy anything hawked by Goldman Sachs. GS may have a hidden agenda.

Obama explains current ocean cleanup strategies – which involve upcoming hurricanes (aka let nature do the job) – during his presser right next to a bikini-clad tourist in a beach chair catching rays (since this beach is one of few still clean)…
    .
…except the “tourist” is our own lovely Kate Pickert. While on assignment down there she forgot the presser’s start time and was trying to tan while on break, oops. Fortunately, the MSM always protects its own and agrees NOT to post pix. If the High Sheriffs would post them anyway we’d appreciate it (seriously).

Of course there’s no chance that a few of his ‘scientific’ ideas might have been involved with the decision as well……

Or maybe Katz was dropped because no one — not even he — could explain what he was doing on a team of experts:
    .

“It’s often a matter of someone who knows someone who knows someone who makes a recommendation,” Katz said. “My long-term academic work would obviously be irrelevant to this. I’m not a petroleum engineer by any means. I’m not an engineer at all.I’m a professor of physics. My degrees are in astronomy and space science, but I’ve done a lot of applied physics work for quite a number of organizations over the years, and someone must have thought I had something to offer. “

    “Obama Politicizes Oil Spill”
    .
On Wednesday you were complaining that he didn’t do anything, now you are going to interrupt a joke session called 1,000 words to complain that he is not doing what you want him to do the way you want him to do it?
    .
Why write that here, 3X. It’s like having have a Chris Rock stand up interrupted by an announcement from Glenn Beck!

  • http://patricksartor.wordpress.com patricksartor

“Now, for this bipartisan beach party, being from Hawaii, I can tell you, no matter how fast yo bring the water in to make a moat for your sand castle, it just drains back into the beach… John McCain, have you got that one or do I have to explain it for a fourth time?”

Obama: We are preparing the Superdome to be a temporary aquarium for housing the Marine life that have lost their homes…

  • dunedweller

During the presser, president Obama tried to lighten the mood by doing the B52s “Rock Lobster” dance, forcing camera crews to go “down, down, down…” with him

  • deconstructiva

    FTW!

    .
I’d love to see Michelle Obama wear outfits / hairstyles from early days of Cindy and Kate (Pierson, not Pickert …or maybe Pickert?).

  • deconstructiva

…or some of the swampers doing their version of this song at next Time 100™ dinner …of course dressed as the early B-52s? Kate and Jay + some of the guys (Michael, Joe, Adam, etc.)?

Barack: Knock it off John, I don’t need you anymore.

  • apr2563

Psst, Mary Matlin look at what happened. Has James asked you about your spokeswoman duties for Cheney and how you never questioned his closeness to oil companies and the gutting of regulations? If not, whisper it in his ear tonight.

  • apr2563

Ms. Matlin and Mr. Melancon you all stop your crying. It isn’t all your fault that you supported drilling and never questioned federal oversight. Oh, you say you are feeling guilty. Well, please make that clear.

  • tharwatfawzi

The timing of the ecological disaster of the drilling rig explosion is suspicious , coming just three weeks after President Obama announced a significant expansion of offshore oil development , and necessitates a thorough investigation from
    President Obama.

  • dunedweller

Thanks for posting that video Deconstructiva ~ that really brings back memories of the early MTV days. I wonder what the “kids” today think of it? Does it look retro or modern or somewhere in between? I hope it’s as cool as the 60s psychedelic footage was to me as a kid. Good times!
