Re: Sarah Palin’s “Stalker”

Todd is one handy man. After Sarah Palin discovered that author Joe McGinniss, who’s writing a book about her, moved in next door to the family’s lakefront home in Alaska, the former VP candidate promised that the former First Dude and his pals would build a huge fence between the properties. Missions accomplished, according to a picture of the wooden fence posted on Greta Van Susteren’s blog – under the heading, “To protect against the ‘Wasilla Stalker.’”

Mother of Mitt: How Lenore Romney’s Failed Campaign Shaped the Presumptive Republican Nominee

This week’s TIME cover story, “The Mother of the Mitt Campaign,” tells the tale of how Lenore Romney’s 1970 run for U.S. Senate may have made a bigger impression on the Republican presidential candidate than his years spent as the son of a governor. Mitt’s father lost his own presidential bid, but it was the lessons from his mother’s loss that are more instructive as Romney enters the campaign stretch.

This has been yet another contribution to the doings of Sarah Palin. Nothing else important happening today?

  • kevin

    Seriously, who the f*ck cares?
    .
Sarah Palin spent a whole half term as governor of the 47th largest state in the country. At least 70% of the country thinks she’s unqualified to be president, which means she’s going nowhere. And yet the media dutifully passes along her Facebook postings and photos like it’s urgent breaking news.

    Move along.

I have resisted posting on either of these threads until now, but Greg Sargent has a photo of the fence and one of his commenters (apart from the missed sgwhiteinfla) asks if the fence will compromise her ability to see Russia from her house and if so that might damage her credibility as a Fox News foreign policy analyst.

success = making huge piles of money merely by speaking with intelligence and common sense on the issues of the day. Time doesn’t much like one of their fellow journalists identified as a stalker and there might have been a time when the gate-keepers could have prevented it. By the fact is Mcginnis does look especially sleezy and yes he will be more closely identified as a stalker for this act than as a journalist for any of the book he’ss written. I especially liked Fatal Vision but that was 25 years ago. Such is the talent of Sarah Palin Joe is now known as a stalker.

    Now that’s success.

Isn’t a great world that you and the entire staff at Time agree she’s a dope and a liar yet she makes more than the entire staff at Time writing and speaking?

The Palins are demanding privacy. The press (and the rest of us) should respect their wishes.

Stop constantly publishing pictures of Palin. Stop reporting on everything she says or does. Stop constantly writing articles about her. Respect her desire for privacy. Ignore her. Please.

  • rdw56

It’s funny I didn’t buy the book and I’m not even sure how many she sold. I don’t really follow Sarah. It’s much more fun following liberals following Sarah. She has a gift of driving them out of their minds. Last I heard, and these numbers are estimates, Sarah got a $5M plus advance for the book and her sales blew way past expectations. The estimate of her $15M income was from a variety of sources. She gets as much as Bill Clinton for a speech and like Bill could do 250 a year.

Just yesterday there were 3 different threads on her with her perfectly managing the news cycle. One example: Sarah claimed Obama was in the pockets of Big Oil. Her factoid: He’s collected more campaign contributions than any other Democrat. Ruth Marcus, uber-lib at the Washington Post was outraged and called Sarah a liar. She printed the fact Obama collected $900,000 from Big Oil. Ruth’s point was McCain collected 3x’s more. True but it doesn’t make Sarah a liar. Now ABCNews never would have taken this bait. Never in one million years would they have reported Obama took $900,000 from Big Oil. Ruth was so pissed off she never considered that sane people outside the liberal bubble finding out Obama was ALSO collecting huge sums from big Oil means he’s got no business pissing on anyone else.

It’s a good guess someone at the WH called Ruth and let her know she wasn’t helping the home team.

The Left’s fear of Palin is amazing to watch.
    .
They make up stories to fit their dim minds, call her names, use personal attacks and try to demonize her but only fail.
    .
Palin as Governor had the highest approval rating of any governor in the country. That’s a sign of success that none of you Liberals would understand in that you don’t believe our citizens are smart enough to make reasonable decisions.
    .
She was actually a manager of a state and a city and a statewide agency. Obama never managed anything in his entire life.
    ..
Have you noticed that Palin now has an approval rating approx the same as Obama?
    .
Have you noticed that Obama is afraid to have a real News Conference where he would have to answer questions without the protection of his 2 teleprompters?
    .
If a presidential election was held today Obama wouldn’t get more then 45% of the vote.
The American people now know who he really is and what he’s for and they have little use for him or his policies.
    .

  • rdw56

No, I agree she’s a smart and savvy capitalist. Unlike MM she really is a capitalist. MM plays saps for his living. He’s a con artist.

You simply cannot deny Sarah is highly successful without looking like a complete moron. Liberals profess to be open-minded. That’s true as long as you agree with them on everything. Your hatred of her because you disagree with her is theatre. You mock yourself. She is a very nice and very classy lady with a lot of common sense and savvy.

This is what liberals do. You have to remember the Bush – Gore debates. That was just so typical of the MSM. You portrayed Gore, the guy everyone knew to be a D student who failed at 3 different graduate programs as the 2nd coming of Albert Einstein. GWB was as dumb as a rock. For conservatives watching this is was hysterical. Two days before the 1st debate Bob Schrum realized, “Uh no, we’ve jacked up expectations so high GWB merely needs to avoid sneezing on his shirt to win”. As GWB would later describe his position, “I love being mis-under-estimated”. Just a perfect line.

You STILL think Gore is all that. He just bought, what? his 4th Mansion and you STILL think he’s the one to tell us how ti cut our energy use.

George Clooney many years back in an interview laments how the term ‘liberal’ came to be so disrespected and he wanted to dedicate himself to restoring it to a respectful level.

Sorry George. As long as you keep on appointing people like MM and Al Gore you are going to slide further. Trashing Sarah has the same impact. Time is mocking her on the fence but sane people see a 65-yr old geezer leering over the fence at the kids play area to ‘study’ the Palins. In this day and age of child molestation that’s just way too sleezy.

Even taking that sleeze out, no sane American would support such an invasion of privacy. We don’t want our political leaders hounded.

The Left’s fear of Palin is amazing to watch.
    .
I’ve said this before — I do not fear Palin in the slightest, and if, God willing, she actually does run for the Republican nomination in 2012, I will make the maximum allowable donation to her primary campaign.
    .
70% of the country thinks she is unqualified to be president, and she would be the surest path to Obama’s re-election imaginable.
    .
Palin as Governor had the highest approval rating of any governor in the country. That’s a sign of success that none of you Liberals would understand in that you don’t believe our citizens are smart enough to make reasonable decisions.
    .
And where are those numbers now? Here’s what Alaskans think of her these days:
    .

According to Rasmussen, which surveyed 600 Alaska voters on May 6, the 49th state is evenly split on its best-known political figure. Forty-nine percent have a favorable or somewhat favorable view of Palin while 50 percent have an unfavorable view.
    .
Thirty-one percent voiced views strongly favorable toward Palin, while 37 percent had strong opinions against her.
    .
The poll asked whether Palin reflects positively or negatively on Alaska’s image: 38 percent said positively, 45 percent replied negatively.
    .
Rasmussen Reports consistently produces the highest Republican numbers, and highest percentages hostile to President Obama and Democrats, of any major American polling company.

    .
    http://blog.seattlepi.com/seattlepolitics/archives/205559.asp
    .
She was actually a manager of a state and a city and a statewide agency. Obama never managed anything in his entire life.
    .
    Just a successful presidential campaign.
    .
Have you noticed that Palin now has an approval rating approx the same as Obama?
    .
Palin’s national approval rating is 37%. Not even close to Obama’s, which is currently in the high 40s or low 50s depending on the poll.
    .
Have you noticed that Obama is afraid to have a real News Conference where he would have to answer questions without the protection of his 2 teleprompters?
    .
No, I haven’t noticed that — because I’ve seen the president repeatedly do live events without teleprompters, including a number of press conferences, town halls, and the unbelievable asskicking he gave to House Republicans.
    .
    Watch that last one here:

“Palin’s national approval rating is 37%. Not even close to Obama’s, which is currently in the high 40s or low 50s depending on the poll”

Obama’s approval rating in Rasmussen is 42%. Democrats are headed for a train wreck this November. Estimates have now moved up to 60 losses in the house.

This is worse than it looks. The MSM pisses on Palin relentlessly. They have been on their knees servicing Obama relentlessly. It’s not working well and it’s working less well every day. Newsweek will probably be either out of business or vastly different by the election. Every MSM outlet has been hemmoranging market share. Time has been doing reasonably well only because Newsweek is in free fall. At the same time Fox and Talk radio are booming. It’s hard to know how CNN and MsNBC are making money. Obama is so clueless regarding business and profits he elevated Limbaugh to the king of all conservatives and his ratings soared. Oreilly started bumping up to 4M and Olbermann 1M. How can MsNBC make any money? Katie Couric was told a yeat ago her next contract won’t come near this one. Limbaughs $40M per year contract was based on sales projections he’s widely exceeded.

By the 2012 cycle red states will pick up 7 to 10 electoral votes and then Limbaughs audience alone will exceed that of all 3 networks. Sarah puts something on facebook and someone asks Gibbs about it within the hour. Time, the NYTs and ABCNews are totally out of the loop. Joe and Kate think they’re supposed to be gatekeepers. Ain’t happening.

Obama’s approval rating in Rasmussen is 42%.
    .
Good Lord, what would conservatives do without Rasmussen as their security blanket?
    .
First of all, even Rasmussen has him at 45%. Second, that is — as always — the lowest of all the major polling outfits. All the rest have him at 51%-47%.
    .
Democrats are headed for a train wreck this November. Estimates have now moved up to 60 losses in the house.
    .
What estimates? The ones I’ve seen are predicting 20-25 losses in the House, but the generic congressional ballots have been tracking to the Democrats. All the polling outfits — except Republican-Rasmussen, of course — have Democrats with the edge.

If Plain has a stalker, or feels threatened, she should do more than build a wall. This is not some “keeping out illegals” empty venture. Lives are involved.

  • kevin

Wow, since you TYPE in CAPS you MUST have a POINT!
    .
It’s really adorable that you conservatives are worried about the deficit now.
    .
Reagan quadrupled the national deficit — adding more debt in his two terms than all other presidents before him combined — and all it warranted from Republicans was a shrug. “Deficits don’t matter,” was what Cheney said.
    .
Clinton came in office, ended Reaganomics, and turned a $290 bn budget deficit into a $235 bn budget surplus by the end of his term, with CBO projections saying we’d pay down the deficit by $5.6 trillion over the next ten years if we just stayed the course.
    .
But then Dubya came back in, and blew the surplus on tax cuts for the richest, a Medicare Part D plan that was entirely put on the national credit card, and two wars (one of them wildly unneeded) that meant when he left office, we had a $1.3 trillion deficit and projections of $8 trillion in deficit for the coming decade.
    .
Taking office in an economic freefall, Obama employed Keynesian spending models — the same one that dug us out of the Great Depression, you might remember — and yes, added to the $8 trillion. But as the last CBO report shows, this short-term spending was absolutely vital to avoid a full-blown depression.
    .
By the way, that health care reform bill you hate? The CBO projects that it will cut the deficit by $1.3 trillion over the next 20 years.
    .
That’s the real world. Democrats pay down the deficit, and Republicans put us back in the red, over and over again. I have facts and figures on my side, unlike you, and as a result, I don’t have to type like a child.

  • kevin

I realize you have a hard time with numbers, earl, but here’s my explanation above in graph form:
    .
    http://www.lafn.org/gvdc/Natl_Debt_Chart-2004.gif
    .
That only takes it to 2004, but even you should be able to grasp the general trend.
    .
And here’s another one, showing how the significant part of the deficit created by Bush broke down.
    .
    http://economistmom.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/cbpp-chart-on-bush-deficit-legacy-121609.jpg
    .
As you can see, tax cut for the richest Americans makes up the biggest part of it, by far. Seeing how you’re in that category, I can only assume that you’re in favor of rolling back the Bush tax cuts for the rich to what they were in the Clinton years, right?

  • kevin

    .
It’s funny you should say that since I was hunting for trolls and knew that a Sarah Palin post is exactly where I would find wingnut trolls.
    .
    And there you are.
    .
She is as newsworthy as the Bush twins when they wanted to buy beer. (Who waits all the way to 21 to have their first drink – the fact that I was almost 20 was really, really rare, but, I’m not at all a drinker type no matter what age I am).
    .
The fact that Sarah Palin articles are troll traps is what I find interesting.

By far the best of the pollsters and the after the fact analyses of the Presidential elections proves it consistently Rasmussen is a daily pollster and unlike the others they poll likely voters. It’s why they are more accurate.

  • rdw56

It’s a PR game savvy Sarah is winning. She doesn’t have to take him to court when she can pound him for a few days in the press and just build a fence.

The entire point is Sarah can do this with or without Time. She’s taking on the entire MSM. They despise her and she’s been able to turn their hatred into a money tree and position herself as king maker.

  • http://patricksartor.wordpress.com patricksartor

    Yes we can!
    .
Let’s rewrite that to reality, “You simply cannot deny Sarah is highly successful because she makes herself look like a complete moron. ”
    .
    Fixed it.
    .
“Your hatred of her because you disagree with her is theatre”
    .
No, it is amusement and laughing at her expense.
    .
Let me fix that one, too.
    .
“Your amusement is because her entire persona is theatre.”
    .
“As long as you keep on appointing people like MM and Al Gore you are going to slide further.”
    .
Appointed? Nobody appointed anybody. The conservatives point, but do not appoint, to people they do not like among liberals.
    .
    Let’s fix that one.
    .
“As long as we conservatives keep on pointing at people like MM and Al Gore we are going to slide further away from reality and into our own, delusional world.”

“In this day and age of child molestation that’s just way too sleezy… That 56 year old men are dying for a peeping tom photo of Sarah Palin naked for their personal pleasure.”
    .
    Now that makes some sense.

“She was actually a manager of a state and a city and a statewide agency. Obama never managed anything in his entire life.”
    .
Here we go again. I thought we had gotten this out of the way during the campaign but, apparently for some people, we haven’t. Let’s compare Obama’s and Palin’s accomplishments:
    .

    .
    “”They despise her..”
    .
Therefore, they write articles about her which, in turn, help her sell books to wingnuts?
    .
    “..position herself as king maker.”
    .
Like when she supports people who are so dumb that they have to plagiarize speeches from Obama.
    .
    .
” But Ward apparently damaged his bid in recent weeks, allegedly plagiarizing from a speech President Barack Obama made at the 2004 Democratic convention. He also mistakenly alluded that Puerto Rico was a country during a recent debate.”

I think that the Palin’s were angry because if they didn’t have to put up the fence, they would have been able to see the country of Puerto Rico.

Eureka, a new species of fowl have been identified. The “bushdiditbird” It has an ugly plumage, a persistent, screeching cry and is usually found lurking around liberal (I don’t know anything) habitats. Little kevie takes credit for introducing this fowl to the hen house and was praised over and over by his frustrated brethren. We love that screech, said they, as they perched in all of their pretentiousness…it drowns out ALL sounds of reality!

Opening up to international trade is, also, Keynesian, Monetarist and NeoClassical Economics.
    .
Basically you can not find any economists who are in favor of protectionism.
    .
The Ricardian model of Comparative advantage created by David Ricardo who explained it in his 1817 book On the Principles of Political Economy and Taxation is where the principal for free trade came from.
    .
Back in 1817 Reagan was just in high school. :D

I thought you guys loved that people get famous and make money (your comment 9.5).

What is likely to happen is that Joe McGinniss is likely to make a ton of money, maybe he’ll do public speaking, too.
    .
So why are you having so many problems with it?

    Pat,

you are correct but free trade absolutely, positively is not part of ANY liberal platform and damn sure not Obamanomics.

    Patrick,
    .
I’ve been pointing out to people that since the ’80s, the steady growth that has taken place in the economy isn’t due so much to tax cuts as it is the growth and maturity of the IT sector.

“Eureka, a new species of fowl have been identified..”
    .
I wish you didn’t make your announcement now since I have been studying the new breed called the North American Right Wing Ostrich.
    .
It is native to rural areas, places with large military bases, cluster around Evangelical churches and, occasionally in places with both high net worth and low education levels.
    .
Unlike it’s African counterpart, it only has a right wing and, even when it’s life depends upon it, never takes it’s head out of the sand.
    .
The species came back twice now after being thought extinct. It was believed to have gone extinct with the Know Nothing Party and, later, after a resurgence, thought to have gone extinct after the defeat of Barry Goldwater in 1964.
    .
In large flocks they have been known to fleece governments, destroy social services and start wars unexpectedly. On an individual level, the North American right wing ostrich is harmless and very amusing due to their inability to self reflect.

  • kevin

My my, what a convincing rebuttal, earl. You really refuted all my facts and figures with incredible skill.

  • rdw56

Reagan humor: Few Presidents used humor so well and none since Lincoln. He constantly mocked socialism to Gorby and loved taunting the media. One of my favorites, “Some times my right hand doesn’t know what my far right hand is doing”. George Will often describes Reagans, “talent for happiness”. It’s very enlightening to look back and remember liberals just as vile and nasty and corrosive toward Reagan as you were toward GWB and now Sarah. Reagan never returned nor felt the emnity. Not for a minute or an hour did he ever think America wasn’t the greatest nation on God’s green earth and not for a minute did Liberal bile upset him.

That’s how it is with Sarah.

Think back to last year when Letterman got liberal cheers when he told a joke about her 12-yr old daughter having sex with A-rod during the 7th inning stretch. That’s what qualifies as class among liberals. She didn’t get mad or angry but called him out on it and after the standard liberal non-apology apology kept calling him out on it and despite his liberal supporters blaming her she never backed down. I tihnk it took a week but he finally realized he was a sleezebag and needed to do a real apology.

She’s smart, she’s savvy, she’s strong and she’s happy. We now now a lot more about Letterman and his sleezy sexlife but Sarah never revisited it. He gave a real apology and it was over for her. Like GWB she is comfortable in her own skin. A trait Bill Clinton never could manage.

  • http://patricksartor.wordpress.com patricksartor

    “Does this make sense?”
    .
It is one of many logical explanations.
    .
Keep in mind the reality of Reaganonics.
    .
1981-1983: recession with unemployment just one percent below our recent high of 10%.
    .
1984- 1987 massive increases in housing prices and stock portfolios encourage massive consumer spending stimulating the economy but while wages of the lowest 60% to 80% stagnate.
    .
1987-1992: Starting with the stock market crash through until the 1992 election of “It’s the economy, stupid” the economy was alternating between slow growth and recession.
    .
So, thanking Reaganomics is the last thing one would do.
    .
After spending the first thirty five years of selling almost exclusively to the military, the computer industry matured enough to reach small businesses by about 1980 and in most American homes by 1990. The civilianizing of the internet in 1992, also a government invention for DoD since 1968 was another massive boom to the US and world economies.
    .
There was a temporary jump in corporate profits due to laxer regulations in the mid 1980s. After that, it all fizzled out and, when supply side was a punchline more than a plan, Clinton came to office in January of 1993.

    Silly teabaggers.

The home Joe McGinniss is renting used to be an Oxford House from 2005 until 2008. The tenants were men recently released from prison who were recovering addicts. What? No fence to protect sexy Sarah in her tank top? Dear God! Who was lurking in that house watching her children play?

The Palins themselves rented the home McGinnis is staying in for six months in 2009, but weren’t interested in purchasing it. They didn’t want to spend the money. Last October they were “done with the house”. During the election, the Secret Service guarded the Palin home from the backyard now occupied by Mr. McGinnis. Here’s a hint, Sarah – if you want to dictate who lives in the house, you should have probably bought it first.

    It’s predictable Palin.

    53-3,

one isn’t necessarily dependent on the other. A supply-sider would claim, as Reagan did, MARGINAL rate tax cuts increase the incentives to save and invest and the IT boom was in part due to these increased incentives driving increased investment.

The one thing we know is the USA and Europe started to diverge in 1982 as the USA grew faster and became substantially more innovative generating an investment led stock market boom. Ask anyone under the age of 30 to name a technology giant and you’ll get American names mixed with Japanese names. They won’t know Phillips was a European powerhouse. No one associates modern technology with Europe.

  • rdw56

“Only the Palin drones thought Letterman was talking about the 12-year-old daughter. The rest of the world knew he was talking about the eldest, the one who’d already been knocked up outside of marriage”

Are you trying to make my point about liberal class. Letterman is about 65 and worth about $150M. He gets laid hitting on his paid staff. You say it’s Ok for sleezy wealthy old rich guys to humiliate 19-yr old girls on national TV. If you really think that you are just as big a scumbag.

But then fact are stubborn things aren’t they? The toad made his joke about that days game and about the attendees, Sarah and her daughter. As Lettermans crack staff had to know her youngest daughter was at the game. That’s the one they mocked.

And this again is what was so cool about Sarah. She pissed on everyone suggesting, ‘well he meant the older one so it was ok”. No it wasn’t OK you dirtbag. It’s not all right. Since when is it OK to go after someone’s family? Sarah did not back down until his apology acknowledged exactly what he did. To his credit Letterman gave a complete and sincere apology.

  • kevin

Actually, I really couldn’t care less about what gets Palin upset.
    .
I know conservatives treat it like a national emergency when she posts to Facebook to let you all know that someone said something mean about her — even though she’s the queen of mean — but the rest of us really, really, really don’t care.
    .
As someone else said, she keeps telling us how badly she wants her privacy — by making Facebook posts, by appearing on TV all the time, by trotting out her kids as props and hiding behind them as shields, etc.
    .
McGinnis never said a word about her kids. Palin is the one who brought them into this, to make a respectable journalist seem like a pedophile.
    .
And of course she did. As she expected, morons like you ate it up.

  • rdw56

“After spending the first thirty five years of selling almost exclusively to the military, the computer industry matured enough to reach small businesses by about 1980 and in most American homes by 1990.”

This clown doesn’t know what he is talking about. AT&T, IBM and a number of other large corporations were investors in and consumers of computer and other technology products long before1980.

You remember the famous Dan Rather letter proving GWB stiffed the service. It was supposed to have been written on a typewriter in 1972. We now know it was written on a PC using Word but the people tryng to defend Rather were trying to suggest it could have been written on a special IBM selectric typewriter. Actually that’s not true because the Word font was not available but the fact is IBM sold only cheap typewriters to the govt with the bulk of their business to private industry and ALL of the cuttng edge stuff to corporations.

If you know anything at all about PCs and the adoption of technology you know the private sector adapts far more quickly than the govt.

  • rdw56

“McGinnis never said a word about her kids. Palin is the one who brought them into this, to make a respectable journalist seem like a pedophile”

That’s my point. That’s how talented and media savvy she is. We can at least agree the MSM despises her. Clearly everyone at Time does. These are the people who fancy themselves the elite gatekeepers. In 1996 Sarah would be an obscure figure. Today she can post an item on facebook and someone is asking Gibbs about it an hour later. If Kate and Joe had their way Sarah would be invisible. But she makes news without their permission.

The fact is moving next store is a bridge too far. He does look like a pedopfile. Remember Letterman. There’s nothing liberals won’t say or do to her or to her family, even her minor children. Nothing is too sleezy or crude. In defending him at the time you enabled him to pretent he really wasn’t scum. You helped turn what was an especially sleezy and low class event that should have lasted one news cycle into a week long passion play and he was always going to have to admit to the facts. They were clear. They were not remotely ambigious. This is so because Sarah Palin wasn’t letting it go and Time could not cover for Letterman.

Sarah knows how the media game is played. You could not grasp how much of a turd Letterman appeared to most Americans. Sarah did know. When I say you I mean liberals unglued by Palin hatred. Joe Klien was defending Letterman as well. Dave thought he had home field advantage. Sarah knew better. Her instincts are/were that much better than his and Joe Kliens.

When you put that in prespective, their combined experience versus her’s, you’ve got to be impressed.

As we debate this issue others on Time and almost all of the liberal bloggers are trashing Palin. They’re so elitist. They don’t understand average people. The imagery of Joe McGinnis sitting on his back porch watching Palins kids or looking in her window does scream pedophile. It’s just creepy. Sarah is going to bang this drum as long as he lives there.

“A supply-sider would claim, as Reagan did, MARGINAL rate tax cuts increase the incentives to save and invest and the IT boom was in part due to these increased incentives driving increased investment.”
    .
    Wrong.
    .
One of the first things Keynes discovered is that savings is not equal to investment.
    .
When you save money you do not, usually, start a business in addition to your regular job. You purchase securities in secondary markets like the stock exchange, buy bonds, buy future or buy naked derivatives.
    .
So, when you buy stock in, say, google, from me and I go out and buy Exxon stock from 53_3 who buys a naked derivative, what businesses are created or expanded?
    .
    None.
    .
As we saw happen in reverse with the housing crisis, when people see the nominal values of their homes and stock portfolios go up, they save less and spend more.
    .
By cutting capital gains taxes and corporate taxes, securities went up in value and people spent more causing a temporary rush for five years.
    .
When too many people just trading back and forth the same sheets of paper ended up owning over valued stocks, everything fell apart.
    .
It’s like how RDW 56 and Freeinpa kept on having yard sales. There was that broken lawn mower Freeper bought in June for $50. RDW bought it back in July for $60. Then Freeper bought it from him for $75. By December, when Freeper bought if for the tenth time for $200, RDW56′s wife told him not to buy it back for $250. “Why not?” asked rdw56, “we are making so much money from it!”
    .
Exchange the word “lawn mower” for “stocks” and you’ll see what Reagan’s boom was all about.

  • http://patricksartor.wordpress.com patricksartor

“AT&T, IBM and a number of other large corporations were investors in and consumers of computer…”
    .
Not like they are today because most businesses had typewriters in 1972.
    .
    You’ve proven my point.
    .
If the government were not the demand for computers it would have taken decades longer since most businesses were functioning well with typewriters.
    .
I did not say, as you wish I did, that IBM existed only because of government contracts.
    .
IBM put far, far, far more money into perfecting computers because the US government through both the military and civilian use were demanding them.
    .
    Demand creates supply.
    .
The DoD, then called the War Department, were filling the Pentagon with computers to break the German Enigma code and to figure out how to create guides for the trajectories of mortar shells fired during World War II.
    .
Private businesses were more than happy to do without computers until long after 1972. I said 1980.

“David Letterman earns much, much more than Fox people, Sarah Palin and most of the people you worship combined”

Limbaugh earns over $40M just from Radio. His speakers fee is as high as Clintons although he rarely charges. Beck earned $32M and I’m guessing Hannity is north of $20M,

You do prove the blind squirrel can find the acorn. I was comparing Limbaugh to other opinion makers in the MSM. Joe klein would tell you he’s an objective observer calling it down the middle. That’s nonsense. Letterman is an entertainer. He’s not an opinion maker. The lucky ‘insight; here by you is Limbaugh makes so much because he is entertaining. Franken was a total failure because he isn’t.

One doesn’t take side’s in the ‘dispute’ between Letterman and Palin. It was not a close call as Letterman admitted a week later. He was a pig. He was a scumbag. It wasn’t funny to begin with. And it’s just a low class thing to go after a politicians child. This doesn’t require any thought whatsoever. You don’t go after someones child, ever, for any reason.

Dave is another rich white guy you almost have to feel sorry for. You have to wonder about these people. He couldn’t get laid unless he was paying them? Don’t you find yourself wondering what kind of hell Bill Clinton had to be living to go after such a needy and weak fat girl? What is with these people? They have all the money and fame they could ask for yet they’re so pathetic.

“The GOP’s ability to turn the word “elitist” backwards so that the CEO is the common man and the $90,000 a year award winning college professor is the powerful elite is just amazing.’

    Think snob. Elistists are snobs.

There are two different reasons why libs have touble with the term elitist.

Liberals think one acheives elite status via education. Conservatives think via accomplishment. A dick with a degree is still a dick. Exhibit A = Al Gore. When someone is introducted as Harvard professor John doe libs automatially assume wise man. Conservatives tend toward dickhead.

For conservatives elitists has come to define those who think they are special and like to tell you so, but are not. Joe Klein for example is one of a huge group of columnists who think they s/b the gatekeepers on the news because they have special talents and insights to select that which out tender eye’s should see. He thinks he is uniquely talented to write what is going on in DC freely mixing his opinion with real facts as if they are one and the same.

Joe could make $1 or $1M a year and it would not make him any more or less an elitist. What makes him an elitists is his preening self-regard.

So elitist is just another word for fraud or blowhard or smuck or Al Gore. etc.

BTW: While Gore has never earned the respect of conservatives it’s not closed to liberals. Clinton might even have a higher regard of himself but is less of an elitist than Gore or Obama because he has a truly brilliant mind and has probem to be a very savvy politician. Joe Klein is an elitist because of his high self regard when he’s been pretty awful. a while ago he trashed Krauthammer for not being able to go to see Iraq for himself. The thing is Joe’s trips were useless. 1st there embeds and free agents traveling with the troops doing a much better job getting events right and then Joe was so wrong. He was bitterly opposed to the surge yet it worked brtilliantly and immediately. The reason Bush won re-election so easily was the MSM was unable to dictate the narrative on Iraq. Few people were forming opinion on Iraq reading Time or newsweek, The bloggers had a huge edge.

Beck and Limbaugh make so many factual errors that they should, absolutely, not be considered more than very obnoxious and usually totally unamusing entertainers themselves.
    .
Letterman knows that he is an entertainer. He does not lie. So, I would much rather see him in the White House than Sarah Palin.

The Cook Report (subscription required) explains:

Republicans scored a late but important recruiting success yesterday when businessman and former state Sen. Dino Rossi announced that he would challenge Democratic incumbent Sen. Patty Murray. Rossi’s announcement puts another Democratic-held seat in play. The race has been in the Solid Democratic column, but is moving to Toss Up, bringing the total number of competitive Democratic seats to 11

    *******

Pat, I think it was Cook who said Obama could lose 60 house seats. As far as the senate the GOP will at least get back to 46and very likely 48.

So, a liberal definition of elitist are those who have wealth and privilege, most often inherited and not earned who have no respect for anybody who does not have money, like 3X has no respect for anybody who is not both a CEO and right wing.
    .
A conservative definition of elitist is a person who has used their time learning about something highly specific and been peer reviewed, checked by critics, discovered something new and wants to show what they have learned to the world.
    .
Conservatives respect money regardless of what good deeds or even crimes were committed so long as that person is, also, a conservative.
    .
    Got it.
    .
In other words, conservatives hate learning so badly that they hate their teachers and are sycophants to wealth and suck Dick Cheney’s kneecaps to hope to become wealthy like he is.

Have you ever been in a college? Checked by critics? Check what? Discovered something new? What are you talking about? You are perfectly liberal. There’s no concept of the things learned being useful or of value. A degree of itself is meaningless. It’s what you do after it.

Does it matter if he makes $4M or $40M? It’s your messiah who called him the head of the GOP. His last contract signed in 2009 was projected at $40M per based on sales objectives. Obama’s attacks have been boffo for business and he’s making more.

He’s still the man and he is very, very wealthy.

“Have you ever been in a college?”
    .
I used to go to a place called Harvard.
    .
I have three relatives with PhDs and each of them, as is always the case, must write a thesis.
    .
The thesis is something new. It can not be a repetition of something somebody else said.
    .
Hence, they have discovered something new.
    .
If you do not place any value on learning new things and just want a scheme to grab as much cash as possible regardless of ethics the way Dick did, then, clearly you are the epitome of amorality and greed which drives nations into the ground.

The GOP is going to pick up 5 seats in PA including Sestaks old seat and then we’re getting the Gov and Senate seats. Sestak has a real problem lying about Obama offering him a job, about some anit-Israeli positions and very liberal fiscal policies and immigration policies. Pat Meehan the GOP candidate for Sestaks seat is effectively unopposed. Corbett is beating the Dem candidate 44% to 28%. The Democrat candidate is from Pittsburg and that’s normally a bad place to be from.

On top of this current Democrat Governor Ed Rendell is leaving office after a series of tax increases and budget deficits and there isn’t a minority candidate on a statewide ballot. Sestak is going to have a hard time getting minority turnout and jewish turnout from Philly and the nearby burbs. If Meehan wins his seat by a large margin it’s going to be almost impossible for The Dems to win PA.

He was the fourth of his name in his family, but was known as William Gates III or “Trey” because his father had dropped his own “III” suffix.[11] Early on in his life, Gates’ parents had a law career in mind for him.[12]

At 13 he enrolled in the Lakeside School, an exclusive preparatory school.[13] When he was in the eighth grade, the Mothers Club at the school used proceeds from Lakeside School’s rummage sale to buy an ASR-33 teletype terminal and a block of computer time on a General Electric (GE) computer for the school’s students.[14] Gates took an interest in programming the GE system in BASIC and was excused from math classes to pursue his interest. He wrote his first computer program on this machine: an implementation of tic-tac-toe that allowed users to play games against the computer. Gates was fascinated by the machine and how it would always execute software code perfectly”

Of course China has more government than we would ever want tossing all of your theories down the toilet.
    .
It, also, is correlated to the population growth of these countries.
    .
Furthermore, having a lower percent of world GDP does not mean that you are making less. It can, and does, mean that other countries, both with massively large socialist (and I mean like India has always owned it’s own car company among other things) will be catching up with us.
    .
It is, if anything, an argument for communism or heavy handed social democracy far, far to the left of anybody here.

“He began as a DJ playing 50s music and only got political later on when he saw that the paychecks were as big and fat as he was.”

He created talk radio twit. He got his start when Reagan removed the orwellian fairness act and removed govt regulation of speech. It wasn’t until then his show would was possible.

It was a perfect match. You can tell how widely respected and liked his is by how often other talk radio hosts play homage to him. They credit him for creating the genre and in many cases for him calling them with a periodicvote of confidence and/or public support from his win perch. Rush is one of the good guys.

Oh Susana, You’re Leading This Poll in New Mexico

Yesterday I mentioned a pollster out of Roswell, New Mexico, who put Susana Martinez ahead in that state’s GOP gubernatorial primary.

For what it’s worth, SurveyUSA puts her ahead of the likely Democratic nominee, Lt. Gov. Diane Denish, 49 percent to 43 percent. No other Republican leads.

New Mexico has been a particularly tough state for Republicans in recent cycles; in 2006, Bill Richardson won reelection 69 percent to 31 percent, and in 2008, they elected their first all-Democratic congressional delegation since 1968. But perhaps the state’s voters are tiring of what they’re getting.

Blacks and Latinos along with standard Democratic voters together, if motivated by the Tea Party and Rand Paul as examples of what they don’t want could easily recreate Obama-like clear victories.

“Of course China has more government than we would ever want tossing all of your theories down the toilet”

It tosses nothing down the toilet. China is still not yet a fully developed nation. It’s screaming growth is off an extremely low base. When per capita incomes are $5K and large parts of your population don’t have electricity screaming growth, when moving toward freer markets, is very sustianable. China is a chaotic mess able to grow so quickly only because ti was socialist for 50 years. We are seeing the same thing in India and all nations moving toward capitalism.

First, the fairness doctrine began being enforced by Reagan and, when he found out that the responses were liberal, not conservative alternatives to the MSM, he completely dropped enforcement.
    .
Second, if the fairness doctrine stopped all conservative commentators on the air, how about William F. Buckley and, predating Rushy by about forty years conservative Paul Harvey?
    .
Rushy played records for years until somebody began to like his occasional right wing remarks and he found out that cool DJ was not his calling at all, but, being a spokesman for the ultra-right and large corporate interests was his truest calling.

That way he could have plenty of money to go down to the Dominican Republic with condoms, Viagra and cash since, in his personal life, he couldn’t keep a wife.

The facts you distorted are not that the US is gaining significantly in terms of per capita GDP.
    .
It is that these countries, which are keeping more government than anybody here wants, is going to grow.

your numbers are misleading but I’m not sure how. USA’s share of GDP by mist standard measures has been closer to 23-25%.

But in any event your numbers bear my point out.

You show the USA as 20% in 1980 and 21% in 2003. That’s showing growth relative to the global average.

You are using the EU. I said Europe and I should have said Western Europe and you should have understood that since we are talking about the economic impact of lower Govt versus higher Govt economies. I think we agree the nations of Eastern Europe in going from part of the USSR to free market economies are the OPPOSITE of the Western European economies.

I think we can also agree any data from communist East europe is garbage and they grew much faster than Western Europe once freed.

Still looking at the EU on 1980 we have 25.6% and 22% in 2003. That’s a pretty sharp 15% drop in 23 years distorted by Poland, the Czech Republic, the booming baltics, etc. I said 30% thru 2010. I am very comfortable with that.

Also note, the strongest economic performers in Western Europe were Ireland which went to a low tax regime and the UK which under Thatcher deregulated. Blair reverse all of that. In the period from 1980 to 2003 the UK and Ireland over-performed. That seems unlikely moving forward.

I think the Obama period will be bad but the next congress will end his dreams of more spending and tax increases. He’ll be a one-termer and the tea party crowd will reverse most of what he did. keep an eye on Christie of NJ for how it’s done. He’s cut a ton of fat and will freeze spending until he can pass some tax cuts to make NJ more competitive. He is now satisfied the budget will be balanced in 2011 and move into surplus in 2012. He’ll be going to war with a democratic state congress to balance the budget with tax cuts.

    .
I have seen a gain for the US which seems to correspond to the fact that EEC countries are shrinking and the US is growing and nothing about Per capita income.

  • http://patricksartor.wordpress.com patricksartor

Okay, well per capita GDP is going to triple in the United States between now and 2012 which will consist of doubling in the red states and 400% increase in per capita GDP in the blue states.
    .
The EEC will go up about 350% during that time.
    .

    .

Of course there is. The US remains the top dog in per capita GDP among larger more developed nations. Don’t give me Norway. The real comparison is the EU-3. We have have vastly difference per capita GDPs with the USA almost 50% higher. That is huge. Further the gap IS rising. While the USA has been staying at the top France and Germany have been slipping. IN a year or two they will be passed by Israel and then over a not too long period fall out of the top 50. If you were to trend our relative rates of growth the last 20 years USA per capita incomes would double France by 2025.

The thing is their lack of competitiveness is becoming worse. Their debts and liabilities mount. The Uk more than the other 2 has seriously degraded the past 5 years. If your govt sector is larger than your private sector you are doomed to slow growth. Western Europe is addicted to bloated public sectors.

A better example I think is within the USA. CA has been losing stream relative ot the USA for 15 years. In the past 3 years they’ve raised a series of taxes, none of which closed the deficit and now CA is even more uncompetitive with it’s neighbors. In 2009 Texas passed CA in the number of jobs. CA continues to lose jobs while Texas is adding them. The tax differencial is now the worst it’s ever been. The utility rate differencial is the highest it’s ever been. After being uncompetitive for 15 years they changed to become even less competitive. TX has had only small defiicts while CAs are massive.

Ca simply cannot attract business. They already have too large a population for the job base.

  • rdw56

I’ve done the numbers before and I’m not looking them up again. Just use France as a proxy. You know as well as I the last 15 years Eastern Europe has been growing 2x’s to 3x’s faster than Western Europe. You also know using the EU from 1980 to 2000 is totally bogus. Poland and 10 other states were socialist economies who after 1991 started a transition to capitalism. Your own data shows the USA share of global GDP increasing and the EU decreasing substantially. That’s unequivical proof we are moving in opposite directions. It’s easy to find current GDP data. The historical stuff is harder.

I don’t see how you can deny my point. Now only has Western Europe been growing much more slowly but they’ve become less cutting edge. You don’t hear of too many commercial breakthroughs in Europe. They’re just noy incentivized to take risks.

  • rdw56

No he didn’t. He called the fairness doctrine owellian before he ran. It’s bizarre for the govt to regulate speech. The more interesting thing is the liberal wet dream of restoring it. Obama would love to but this is his grand daddy’s supreme court.

Limbaugh gives a lot of credit to thay DJ experience for learning how to talk on air including both technical issues like breathing and timing, how to tell a joke, how two use 8 seconds versus 12 seconds. Rdw56,
    .
When you are out of your drug induced haze, if you want to say that Thatcher drove England up and liberals drove France down, look at their per capita GDP:
    .
    United Kingdom 34,619
    France 33,679
    .
Yes, England is doing better technically.
    .
    34,619-33,679= $940 per year.
    .
    How about by percent?
    .
    33679/34619= 97.28%
    .
That, at most, is one year’s growth.
    .
It is, also, unclear where the two stood in your favorite year ever (due to getting laid to the song Heat of the Moment, I guess) to say if England gained or lost vs France in terms of per capita GDP.
    .
So, what has right wing economics done for the world?
    .
    NOTHING!
    .
We were on the right track before Ronald Reagan. He just slashed and burned government, locked the door of opportunity to no lower than upper middle income white people and made some corny jokes about it.
    .
You still are laughing at goofy jokes from 1982 and, therefore expect us all to erect shrines to Ronald Reagan.

  • rdw56

“You still are laughing at goofy jokes from 1982 and, therefore expect us all to erect shrines to Ronald Reagan.”

No pat, I don’t expect you to erect shrines to Reagan. I expect you to hate Reagan. He was every libs worst nightmare. More than any man of the last 100 years he changed how we think and made us proud of America. He was the 1st conservative President, Americans by a solid majority prefer tax cuts to new spending as economic stimulus and absolutely, positvely do not want to become France.

It’s interesting to compare Obama and Reagan as comunicators. Obama is a gifted orator yet utterly influencial. His ideas and thoughts have been untested by him and poorly thought out. He has no relevent real world experience to lead. He knows nothing of the private sector, of business or profits and he’s never held an executive position. His speeches sound good coming off the teleprompter but they’re all candy. There is nothing memorable on the positive side. The reason majorities prefer tax cuts over more govt spending is Reagan’s eloquence and diligence. Even more gifted as an orator Reagans speeches were full of content and wisdom. Here’s a great line I know you hate yet is chock for of wisdom. Reagan on govt. “If it moves, tax it. If it keeps on moving regulate it. If it stops moving subsidize it”.

Tell me what you think it was like for a true blue lib like Joe Klien or EJ Dionne upon hearing that for the 1st time and listening to the wild cheers and chuckles and knowing Reagan just encapsualized peoples negative feelings about govt in a humorous and easily memorable way. I can promise you both were sick to their stomachs fully appreciating why he was called the great communicator.

He is by far the most quoted President and Obama isn’t a threat to change that. Reagans humor fills books where Obama is utterly without humor. Actually he’s a whiner, the quintessential liberal male, woe is me, Reagans humor isn’t one year but his entire career. It’s why George Will speaks of his talent for happiness.

Obama by contrast has been quoted bitching about the mess he inherited and no one had had it as hard as him. FDR only had a Depression and WW. Turman WW and Korean War. Ike Korea, Cold war and staggering economy. JFK a very nasty cold war while starting Vietnam. LBJ staggering civil rights issues and vietnam….. yeah, they had it easy.

You elected the wrong guy. He’s the opposite of Reagan.

Europe was ravaged by a war that pulled the USA out of a depression. Why not start in 1938 when the USA was near the low point of a depression and Germany booming?

1982 makes perfect sense because on all stock market tables of the lost 100 years it is the sharpest inflecton point. This is the 1st year Reagans marginal tax cuts took effect and it represents a clear shift of the USA onto a higher growth trend vis-a-vis Europe.

The collider is a classic govt boondoggle but also a representation of what govt does best and has to do. Corporations are not inclinded to do basic research with no hope or sign of potential profits. This is one role of govt.

I said we are collectvely smarter because we are freer. That’s a bad choice of words. It’s not a matter of intelligence. It’s a matter of incentives. The USA is far, far more productive than Europe at the cutting edge because we are better incented and have culture dominated by the private sector, not the public sector. Even with that poor choice of words I never said Europeans don’t do science or don’t do technology or don’t produce advancements. I aid they’re not as productive. Intel and Microsoft had to be American companies. Europe simply isn’t designed to produce an Intel.

“…Sestak a major critic siding with some seriously anti-semites on issues.”
    .
That is a very serious allegation against Sestak.
    .
Being in an overwhelmingly Jewish dominated field of work in NYC, living in a primarily Jewish neighborhood and having Jewish in-laws but, as about 45% of Israeli Jews are, I am critical of both US and Israeli policy and, absolutely should never be called anti-Semitic myself.
    .
So, please do link this unless you would call anybody who questions the momentarily dominant Israeli right an anti-Semite, which would make you, in disagreement with the opinions of our current congress and president, “anti-American” and be open to the allegation that you do not support the right of the United States to exist.
    .
    Please send the link.

“The collider is a classic govt boondoggle but also a representation of what govt does best and has to do.”
    .
The rest of your argument is totally debatable, but like I said, Patrick knows economics best, so I will let him handle that. So far, on that subject, you’ve batted 0.
    .
Now, on this subject, you’ve contradicted yourself.
    .
Did you know that without fundamental physics research, Intel, Microsoft, and IT as a sector would not even exist
    .
Now I can turn the question directed at me on it’s head:
    .
    Are you that stupid?
    .
Hell, your TV, your radio, the computer screen, the guts in the box, and nearly everything you use is a product of experimental and theoretical physics.

Imagine if you will, a running race.
    .
One person has the word “France” on his back.
    .
    Another has “England”.
    .
    Another one has “Germany”.
    .
Yet another one, ten miles ahead has the word “US” written on his back.
    .
So, the US reached the finish line first.
    .
    Hmmmm?
    .
Why 1945 when the US was way, way ahead as starting point?
    .
Because you want measure growth per year, not the end results when tampered with by WWII.
    .
For your France vs England (both raveged by WWII, but France far more so) are 3% different in per capita GDP.
    .
In other words, you want to compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges and the big apple here was not touched in WWII while France, England and Germany were toothpicks and toilet paper.
    .
If you want to use the year 1982 so badly, then compare the US growth to Canada since we are so similar in many ways.
    .
Also, they began to have National Health care in the 1960s.
    .
So, compare Canada from 1982 (how much of a gap in per capita GDP) to now (how much of a gap).
    .
If it is larger, then you may have one case in point.
    .
If it is smaller, then your argument has one more failure.

  • 53_3

    Patrick:
    .
To complete your metaphor, we need to include the effects of WWII.
    .
the guy with ‘France’ on his back has a broken left leg and right arm.
    .
The guy with ‘England’ on his back has a broken leg and a nasty gash on his forehead.
    .
The guy with ‘Germany’ is on his back is in a full body cast, on life support, and has two surgeons trying to restart his ticker while flat on his back on a gurney.
    .
Then, you can start the race with the guy with ‘USA’ on his back ten miles ahead. He has a limp.

  • http://patricksartor.wordpress.com patricksartor

“Why not just use the USSR or Red China to see ho govt helps people?”
    .
Because you need to compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges.
    .
When the government controls 90% or more of commerce without ever making use of any market forces, that is a failure.
    .
The US has about 30% of the economy and Europe has about 40%.
    .
So, lets compare on an equal playing field two countries England and France. France has more than 97% of the per capita GDP of England. This could, easily be due to a huge number of factors and may reverse since it is so close.
    .
Why not compare having one three shots of vodka with nine?
    .
That is comparing the US to the former USSR.
    .
Comparing three drinks to four is Europe to the US.
    .
For me the cold war victory means this: consent of the governed is the only means of running a government successfully.
    .
To you, apparently it means: government bad.
    .
One system had people in Moscow making plans for places they had never seen before in other parts of the USSR.
    .
HCR is about people voting about what should happen to themselves when they, personally, know doctors, nurses, hospitals, etc, etc.
    .
So, HCR and the USSR has zero similarity.

  • http://patricksartor.wordpress.com patricksartor

    53_3
    .
    True.
    .
And the guy with US on his back may have a couple of minor cuts and bruises, but, is on steroids.
    .
The concept that RDW56 does not comprehend is isolating a variable.
    .
That is, to figure out by putting two similar things next to each other and then having one go one way and a second one go the other.
    .
How much faster is it to go left or right?
    .
Well if the one going right has ten mile head start, you can not just use the end results. You have to remove the other factors.

    .
Make fun of Obama’s big ears. That’s fair. Just expecting anybody to respect you if you attack the man based upon race is pure KKK.

  • rdw56

    Yes it will won’t it?

Unlike liberals who must pander on race and sex constantly to target their special interest groups conservatives focus on ideology. Low taxes and small govt have nothing to do with race. How cool will it be that the blank slate you elected in 2008 will be so well defined in 2012? The promise of ‘post-racial’ has been thoroughly debunked as we’ve ended up with another garden variety race baiting liberal. We are drenched in race baiting politics as you prove here.

Tell me is Obama’s position on Arizona based on what he thinks is right or what he thinks will most please Hispanics. Since Arizona is only trying to enforce federal law, a law that presumably isn’t racist, it would seem Obama is 100% pandering here.

President Palin will have won in large part because she’s promised to stop the shallow race baiting and focus on solving the problems of all americans.

Rush understands it’s a matter of winning 50.1% of the entire vote and rather that stereotype one special interest group over another you aim for colorblindness anf treat all the same.

It also occurs to Lmbaugh that it’s rather racist to suggest all Hispanics think the same as if they share one brain and are incapable of an original thought of their own. You don’t do it with whites? You don’t distill white thought down to one side of an issue. You don’t do it with Asian immigrants You only do it with people of darker colors as if they’re just one giant blob.

I happen to be on Limbaughs side. His is clearly colorblind. If you want to hear one of the funniest people in all of radio you have to listen to his call screener, the famous Bo Snerdly, he of authentic slave blood, lecture Barak Obama, a man without a drop of slave blood, do the official Obama criticisms for the show. Rush is concerned that as a white man sensitive liberals will get upset at hearing him criticize a black man. They might sense Rush is racist and have it ruin their day. So Rush, in order to protect them, has contracted out his insults.

It is as good as anything on Leno or Letterman.

Ever wonder what it’s like for an enraged lib to call the show to call out Rush as a racist only to get Bo? Seems Bo is more than a very well paid employee he is also a friend and as a black man with slave blood considers himself fully capable of judging if Rush is racist or not. It must be very hard for a harvard grad, fully aware of their intellectual and moral superiority, to run into a mere call screener with a bad attitude. As you might imagine as soon as they sense Bo is black their tone changes quickly.

  • 53_3

rdw thinks the “magic negro” skit is comedy. Most in the Black community think it’s racist.
    .
    Who is right?
    .
I would say that common sense would lead one to conclude that since it is the Black community that is the target of his many barbs, then perhaps they are the ones who should considered the best authority on this subject.
    .
My point being that rdw will refuse to accept it. Yet, either way, Rush will continue to reinforce the image that he and his ilk are hateful and intolerant.
    .
And, the funny thing is, rdw and his ilk pay the price for this in the form of 5 to 7 million Black conservative votes.
    .
So I say let them delude themselves…

  • 53_3

rdw, all I have to say to your ridiculous, long winded stupidity is to look at my comment immediately above.
    .
Rush is pandering to a demographic, too, rdw, but of course, it is your demographic he’s pandering to.

  • 53_3

So according to rdw, one acts like a racist in order to demonstrate that he isn’t racist?
    .
You have some very serious issues, rdw. Not the least of which is your lack of knowledge of the Black community…

  • 53_3

    ***************************************************************

This is too obvious a trap which is why Rush used Barak the Magic Negro in a song parody to the tune of Puff the Magig dragon. As expected liberals were outraged and they reacted as any trained dog would.

The title of the song was taken off the headline to a column written by a black columnist at the LA Times. His point was that Barak was magic because he made gulty white elites feel better about themselves voting for an acceptable black man because he’s just like them, yet he’s black Or as Joe biden might suggest, clean.

Rush wasn’t making fun of Barak Obama. He was joining the LA Time in making fun of pathetic while liberals who think because they now say they voted for Barak that means they’re not racist and thus immune from such charges.

Rush lives to torture liberals so because it is so much fun. You are pure PC.

BTW: Rush has a lot more material than his ears.

“1982 makes perfect sense because on all stock market tables of the lost 100 years it is the sharpest inflecton point.”
    .
Stock markets are not the economy and the economy is not stock markets.
    .
Where do you get the majority of your income for your household: a) the income of stocks and bonds, or b) work?
    .
Unless you live off of a trust fund or are retired (in which case you the amount you earned still determines the amount you have as your initial investment) you get nearly all of your income from the labor markets, not the stock market.
    .
You still have no links to this!
    .
What is it with you and links?
    .
So, 1982 is still a pathetic year to choose.
    .
Furthermore, you have not shown anything useful with the 1982 per capita GDP of 1982 in Europe to compare to the US.
    .
“The USA is far, far more productive than Europe at the cutting edge because we are better incented and have culture dominated by the private sector, not the public sector.”
    .
They earn 72% on the dollar but have three times as much vacation (like the US Army gets six weeks leave, too) and paid sick time for everybody (not just for those over 40 hours per week which all – I mean all – of the low wage jobs cut you out of including not giving you vacations).
    .
So, an American works 50 weeks and a European works 46 weeks.
    .
Well, there is a reason right there: fewer hours working.
    .
Next, include that an American should be putting aside at least 20% of his income for retirement.
    .
In most European countries, they do not need to put aside anything since the businesses must provide a pension

    .
So 80% of 92% is how to compare per hour total compensation = 73.2%.
    .
So, we get paid the same as Western Europeans.
    .
    We are equal in efficiency..
    .
Sure, Europeans pay higher taxes, but, the amount they need to set aside to send their children to college: $0
    .
The Amount of money they need to pay for health insurance:$0.
    .
Even within the US, in your thinking, low tax = good deal.
    .
Go to a poor town and go over a pothole costing you up to $1,000 to fix your front end and you’ll be smiling when you pay another $50 a year in town taxes to make sure that your car is not destroyed by the road.
    .
Your view of the world, rdw is cartoon-like.

    .
He brings your party off of a right wing cliff is what he does.
    .
Your “white guilt” thing is amazingly dumb.
    .
    Obama won for three reasons:
    .
    1) His platform was the same as what the public wanted.
    .
    2) He has a speaking voice like newscaster.
    .
    3) He is astonishingly intelligent with an amazing academic and professional background prior to getting into politics.
    .
McCain’s pre-political credentials is that short Vietnamese people beat the fk out of him.
    .
President of the Harvard Law Review vs. Many small Vietnamese people beat the crap out of him….
    .

    **************************************

Liberals are so pathetic. Can we at least agree you have no intention of moving to a colorblind society? Everything you do allocated and divided by race. If you really think blacks are the only ones capable of deciding what is racist you are by definition racist.

You are so tied in knots by political correctness you’ve lost your spine and brain.

Limbaugh and Bo are not mocking blacks you twit. They’re mocking liberals.

BTW: I need a ruling I think I can only get from a whilte liberal. Bo is a black man. But he likes Rush. Is he still a black man? I know in your world all blacks think exactly the same. there’s one brain and they’ll all plugged into this central brain. Well apparently Bo’s connection came undone. So is he no longer black?

BTW: yes I will refuse to accept your incredible stupidity. So does Rush. The Barak the Magic negro song is at least 18 months old and he’s had to play it one hundred times. Every week or so some airhead hears about it for the 1st time and professes outrage so he apologizes by playing it again.

BTW: When the bitching was at it’s peak clarence Page, a black syndicated columnist wrote an article on the song. He was quite fond of it. He stated good parody needed 3 items, It had to be clever, it had to be funny and it had to have a ring of truth. Clarence went on to explain this had all three. He also noted that if Limbaugh is a racist then by definition so is the LA Columnist who started it all. The entire basis for the column and song is the ONLY reason while liberals accept Obama is because Obama is like them. He is clean and articulate. He’s not the ‘typical’ black man. He is more like the ‘typical’ white man. Clarence made it clear for the total airheads the parody wasn’t insulting Obama. The parody, and the LA Columnist, were insulting white liberals. When Clarence said the song had an element of truth he was agreeing with the intended insult.

    rdw56,

In the Soviet Union there were unelected people who ran the economy called Gosudarstvennyi Komitet po Planirovaniyu, aka known as Gosplan, the State Planning Committee.

In the United States, we have super large corporations are Gosplan in America if left unchecked by elected government.

You hated the Soviet Gosplan but you worship the American Gosplan.

    I don’t worship either. I dislike oligopoly (Here is a definition: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oligopoly#Characteristics).
    .
I like it when democratically elected representatives of labor in a union play a role in determining their own future.
    .
I like it when companies remain small enough that they bend to the market and the market does not bend to them.
    .
You want people to tell you what to do.
    .
I want to tell our elected officials what to do through my vote and/or support.
    .
If I were blue collar again, I would like to negotiate with my boss via a union.
    .
You like being told what to do.
    .
Truth be told, if you were born in the Soviet Union, rdw, I bet you would have hated seeing communism fall because you wouldn’t know who was going to tell you what do anymore.
    .
Now Rush Limbaugh, instead of Stalin, tells you what to think and you love being told what to think.
    .
I like to learn and figure out things for myself.

  • rdw56

but bravery in combat or in captivity tells you much less than leadership in the past and academic achievements.)

    ***************************************

You have it precisely backwards. Academics are a dime a dozen. It is a pampered disconnect life and it’s for that reason the most common stereotype of an academic is a look like Einstein and the face of a man possibly doing outrageously complex calulations in a head he never bothered to comb because he had no idea where he had a comb. Of course that face could also have been due to constipation.

You can’t learn common sense in academia. They enforce political correctness. It’s the total absence of common sense and of courage. They can’t teach ethics and they can’t teach bravery. They can teach you accounting, They can’t teach you how to think.

  • rdw56

Now Rush Limbaugh, instead of Stalin, tells you what to think and you love being told what to think.

    ***************************

Actually Rush is quite clear on this. He teaches us what Reagan taught him.

  • rdw56

    From the contentions blog:

Indeed, Joe Sestak is a prime example. He was of course one of the 54 signatories of the Gaza letter, calling for Israel to sacrifice its own security to allow materials into Gaza that could easily be converted to weaponry and could provide cover for smuggled weapons. As this report notes, the letter was instigated by some of the most Israel-hostile legislators (e.g., Jim McDermott and Keith Ellison), as well as this cast of characters:

J Street, The Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation (HCEF), The American Task Force on Palestine (ATFP), The American Near East Refugee Association (ANERA), The Methodist Church, The Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL), and Rabbis for Human Rights.

  • rdw56

“In the United States, we have super large corporations are Gosplan in America if left unchecked by elected government”

you are clueless. Most large corporations are multi-national and many get most of their sales outside the US. They lobby the US Govt for the best business practices they can get and if it’s more profitable to invest and hire here they do. If it isn’t they don’t. It’s much the same as an Asian or German car maker. They negotiate with the various states. That’s why they don’t make cars in Michigan.

Intel gets about 15% of it’s revenues from the USA. When they build a new plant it’s decided on proximity to markets and the finances of the location. They stopped expanding in CA two decades ago. They have larger operations in Texas and China.

Intel has zero interest in running the govt.

  • rdw56

His platform was blank. It isn’t now. He isn’t going to win re-election. He’s the classic tax and spend liberal and especially clueless on economics and business. He’s never worked in the private sector or held an executive position. His entire life has been in a liberal bubble.

The bottom line is the economy wil underperform because he’s tried to copy Europe and that model is a low growth model. They just revised 1st Qtr growth down to a disappointing 3% after more than a year of massive monetary and fiscal policy stimulation. Goldman Sacks is forecasting 1.6% GDP growth in the L/H. The 3rd Qtrs GDP report is due Oct 29, just before elections. If it is below 2% the election will be a train wreck for Obama.

  • rdw56

    Regarding Sestak,

It seems Bill Clinton was playing Luca Brasi in making Joe an offer he could not refuse on behalf of Obama. As you know Joe claimed the WH offered him a job to drop out of the PA primary. That’s felony bribery. Nothing shocking of course except for the ineptitude on both sides. This is not going to make it go away. Getting Bill involve is going to make it more famous. Bill was attempting to see how serious Joe was n running. It’s all a big mistake. Of course it was. Saturday Night live could do a year of skits on this episode.

You would think being from Chicago Obama would have this down cold.

  • rdw56

“He is astonishingly intelligent with an amazing academic and professional background prior to getting into politics.”

So then why did he call officer Crowley stupid? Why did he automatically assume racism? Why did he even address the issue? He’s got an astonishing lack of simple common sense and self control. Did he fall for the typical liberal stereotypes and assume with no factual evidence the cop was stupid and/or racist. He seems to be a typical garden variety Harvard liberal. No common sense.

“So then why did he call officer Crowley stupid?”
    .
The cop arrested a man for trying enter his own home.
    .
    That is stupid.
    .
“Why did he automatically assume racism?”
    .
First, Boston is better than the Jim Crow South, but not much better than them in race relations. It is 30 years behind NYC and most of the rest of the country. It is not shocking in blue collar Boston (which do not have anything to do with Harvard) to hear the N word.
    .
Second, if Obama assumed racism, then why did he have a beer with him?
    .
Obama doesn’t have beer with the KKK.
    .
Obama doesn’t have beer with the Ayrian brotherhood.
    .
So, by having a beer, he was saying that it was a misunderstanding, not an act of intentional racism.
    .
Damn! If the president of the United States wants you to come to the White House for a beer you consider that a punishment?
    .
Okay, if it was Dubbya and I had pick his drunk a$$ off the floor after he got plastered, then maybe that would be a punishment.
    .
“Why did he even address the issue?”
    .
Do you remember the Rodney King Riots?
    .
Boston has massive racial tensions. It never recovered from the civil rights movement and busing.
    .

    .
So, you admit that your allegations are false since Rabbis are not, by definition anti-themselves.
    .
If somebody is anti-themselves they have committed suicide.
    .

“Second, if Obama assumed racism, then why did he have a beer with him?’

Because he was getting hammered for being so stupid and ignorant. Gates broke into the home with a crowbar and a savvy lady saw him and called the cops as any good citizen would do. He was renting it. I owned a duplex once. I gave my tenants keys.

Gates was a horses asses refusing a request he prove he was who he said he was. Since he WAS the guy who was seen, clearly and accurately BREAKING IN Officer Crowley had no choice but to verify identification.

Gates went into some pigheaded “I’m a victim” bullsh*t rant and was properly handcuffed. He broke into the house with a crowbar and he was not the owner.

It was a pathetic indecent with Gates and Obama both acting like horses asses. How dare a mere cop question a Harvard professor! They don’t know their place?

BTW: Office Crowley some time after that was at a national FOP convention and received a hearty standing “O”. If you think the men in uniform across the country missed out on their preening racist elitism and condescension toward cops you are out of your mind. The best part is before Obama ran his mouth he even said he didn’t have the facts yet. He admitted he was stereotyping.

I don’t know how many FOP votes he’s losing but he’s losing a lot.

IN this case making a job offer IS bribery and it clearly spelled out as a felony. You cannot offer someone a job to drop out of a race. It’s done all the time. This is only an issue because it’s all been so inept.

The Clinton angle is just perfect. Yes I am having fun with Chicago. Chicago can take it.

This is all harmless. It’s also clownish and that’s why Saturday Night Live and all of except liberal comics will run with it. It’s not going away either. Sestak will keep it front and center thru 2010. You of course can see how Sestak has a new problem when Clinton comes to findraise for him. It just has to come up.

What are you babbling about? This didn’t generate ANY racial tensions. It came out immediately professor Gates was a dick. He pried open his front door with a crowbar. Someone called the cops. The cop asked him to prove he was who he said he was. It was exactly the right thing to do. It was the ONLY thing to do. No one then or since has questioned that Crowley was 100% correct and that Gates was a total horses ass.

The best part of the beer fest was Joe Biden. The consensus was Obama wanted him there to keep him away from the cameras. Keep that gaffe machine as far away from the press as possible.

I can absolutely, positively guarrantee you Obama hurt himself badly among the men/women in blue. IN fact the might not be another event that so clearly proves him to be the quintessential clueless Harvard elitist.

“On July 28, it was revealed in the media that Justin Barrett, a 36-year-old Boston Police Department officer who has been on the job for two years, and is also a member of the Massachusetts National Guard, sent a mass e-mail[41] to fellow National Guardsmen and to The Boston Globe in which he referred to Gates as “a banana-eating jungle monkey.”[42] Although the email was signed only JB,[43] when he was asked about it, Barrett admitted to his BPD superiors that he was the author.[44] According to an article in the Boston Globe, Barrett wrote the email containing the racial slur “in reaction to media coverage of Gates’s arrest July 16,”[42] in particular to a July 22 Globe column by Yvonne Abraham, who expressed support for Gates.[45] In the e-mail, Barrett wrote, “If I was the officer he [Gates] verbally assaulted like a banana-eating jungle monkey, I would have sprayed him in the face with OC [oleorosin capsicum, or pepper spray] deserving of his belligerent non-compliance.” During the course of the message, Barrett used the phrase “jungle monkey” four times, three times in reference to Gates and once in reference to Abraham’s column, which he characterized as “jungle monkey gibberish.”[45]”

“On July 16, 2009, Harvard University professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr., was arrested at his Cambridge, Massachusetts home by a local police officer responding to a 911 caller’s report of men breaking and entering the residence. The arrest initiated a series of events that unfolded under the spotlight of the international news media.

The arrest occurred just after Gates returned home to Cambridge after a trip to China to research the ancestry of Yo-Yo Ma for Faces of America.[2] Gates found the front door to his home jammed shut and with the help of his driver tried to force it open. A local witness reported their activity to the police as a potential burglary in progress. Accounts regarding the ensuing confrontation differ, but Gates was arrested by the responding officer, Cambridge Police Sgt. James Crowley, and charged with disorderly conduct. On July 21, the charges against Gates were dropped. The arrest generated a national debate about whether or not it represented an example of racial profiling by police.”

Pat, you’re being a blockhead. The man opened the front door with a crowbar. There’s no profiling after that. The person with the crowbar is breaking and entering. There’s no ambiguity here. No confusion. Gates broke the friggin door open and entered. Doesn’t matter if he’s 3 or 300, green or blue he broke the friggin door open with a crowbar and entered.

That’s not stereotyping that’s breaking and entering.

    Ignored what fact?

BTW: this clip is misleading. Gates wasn’t an owner. he was a renter. The lady who called it in worked and lived in the area and knew there had been a rash of burglaries. She was familiar with the house but did not recognize Gates or the limo driver. She saw each clearly. Gates was not a well known figure to the neighborhood as one might assume if it were his home and he had lived there. He didn’t cut the lawn or lant flowers or do any of those things a homeowner does. She was absolutely correct to call.

In fact one of the better moments was her lawyer making all of the rounds stating, “:Of all the people involved the woman was the smartest and she’s not getting a beer”

There isn’t a single fact that exonerates or justifies Gates in any way. Obama’s position is even weaker.

    What does “dittohead” mean, rdw…

  • rdw56

Why do you assume Rush knows nothing about the black community?

But to go back I think the question lacks merit and logic. You are suggesting blacks are different other than the obvious skin tone. That their opinion have more merit than white or brown or yelow opinions. That is by every definition racist and stereotyping.

What is even more insulting and ignorant you think all blacks think the same, as if they share one brain. That’s not just stereotyping, it’s the worst form.

The thing I find most interesting about race is how racist liberals are and how so tied up in intellectual knots they’ll say things a child will know is stupid, but because it’s the politically correct, they say it.

The discussion about Gates is typical. The example could hardly be clearer. There isn’t a shred of ambiguity. There’s no gray area. Gates admits he broke into his house with a crowbar. Officer Crowley absolutely, positively at a minimum had to acertain Gates was the legal resident. No sane person would argue this point. But liberals fall over themselves doing so.

Your defense of Obama’s comments are even more cowardly. You defend Obama because you are terrifiedif you say something negative they’ll play the race card on you. There’s a point in Gate’s defense that while he acted badly he had just come back from a long trip to China and he was exhausted and then furious he had to break into his own house and then the cops show up. Professor Gates had a really, really bad day. He was still wrong but it might be fair to say the Professor Gates we saw at that moment was not the real Professor Gates.

Obama has NO such excuse. Far worse is he even admitted he didn’t have the facts and should not pre-judge. Then he went and did just that. Of all of the actors in this play the women who made the call came ot best and Obama the worst.

Regarding Rush the real man has been completely overtaken by his radio persona and the fact he is so provacative his enemies will say anything and do. He is in fact a teddy bear aware he’s lived a charmed life. All such men like all poeple. He has close personal relationships with a number of black intellectuals such as Bo snerdly, his call screener to Walter Williams to Clarence Thomas. I understand these to be personal, not just professional relationships.

I can anticipate your response and it’s just as racist as your original question. These are all black men representing a black POV. You might think that’s not true but I’d have to again ask you why you think there’s only one black point of view, an ugly and insulting assertion.

  • rdw56

your italy comparision is stupid and highlights your racism and condescension of blacks.

I’d ask an italian in Italy for directions because they know the geography. Rome is in one place. They all know where it is. You are suggesting blacks all think identically. That there is ONE black thought and they all share it.

Even worse, you are confirming your own idiocy. You don’t know what racism is?

“..you are terrifiedif you say something negative they’ll play the race card on you.”
    .
Then why don’t I fear being called an anti-Semite by a fellow Irishman like you?
    .
I disagree with the Israeli government and you call that anti-Semitic.
    .
I disagree with Obama when he is not liberal enough like the way he watered down HCR.
    .
So, I must be crapping in my pants now since you, a fellow Irishman, might call me an anti-Semite and, for the times I said Obama was to lukewarm and watered down, I must be shaking in my shoes.
    .
All of you stuff about fear of being called a racist is total BS.
    .
If I am going to make a crude comment, I do wonder what a woman might think of that and, if I were going to make a gross generalization about an ethnic group I do not “fear” them. I do, however, do not want to be an A-hole.
    .
You know nothing about life outside of what Rushy tells you.
    .
Maybe if you are handicapped and have been unable to leave the house for the past 35 years, rwd, you might have an excuse for believing all of these things.
