Mitt Romney lashed President Obama’s economic stewardship in an interview with TIME’s Mark Halperin on Wednesday, deflecting attacks on his years as a private equity executive and laying out how he hopes to take control of the economy as soon as he’s sworn in, should he defeat Obama in November.

Mother of Mitt: How Lenore Romney’s Failed Campaign Shaped the Presumptive Republican Nominee

This week’s TIME cover story, “The Mother of the Mitt Campaign,” tells the tale of how Lenore Romney’s 1970 run for U.S. Senate may have made a bigger impression on the Republican presidential candidate than his years spent as the son of a governor. Mitt’s father lost his own presidential bid, but it was the lessons from his mother’s loss that are more instructive as Romney enters the campaign stretch.

    .

    .
You said you worked in the medical field and then you said you worked in recycling and love your job.
    .
Just wondering, are you involved with recycling waste from hospitals, or what line of work are you in Jack?

  • jackhammer69

Do you practice this or does it come naturally to you?

    It’s natural, of course.

Actually my week ends at 5:00 on Friday.
    .
Being self employed, I have leeway during weekdays, too.

    .
Yes, but because you work in real estate your earnings are like a snake that ate a deer; nothing for a long time, then a big pay off.
    .
So since you don’t get paid until you do a sale, you should work hard until you do a sale, not just put in your obligatory 40 hours a week.
    .
Just to get by in America you need to work 40 hours a week. If you want to get ahead in America, you need to work more than 40 hours a week.
    .
I think the problem with many liberals is that they don’t know that.
    .
And BTW, since I am a salaried manager, I can leave work after 4 hours and still get paid for 8 and not use any of my PTO time. I also get 160 hours of PTO time every year, so I have a lot of leeway too, and I still get paid…. Not to mention holidays….but we already know who has the better job.
    .
You said you worked in the medical field and then you said you worked in recycling and love your job.
    .
Just wondering, are you involved with recycling waste from hospitals, or what line of work are you in Jack?

    .
Oh, its not going to be that easy,Pat.
    .
For one thing you are forgetting a few minor details about what I said in our last conversation. I’ll give those to you:
    1. About 2% of the waste we recycle is medical waste.
    2. I left the medical field after becoming disgusted with the way it was done and the health risks.
    .
So it is probably safe to deduce that I do not work specifically in the field of “Medical Waste.” I must work in some other, closely related field.
    .
But there is more you are forgetting.
    .
Since you told me you stopped working at 5 PM today, I’ll tell you I left work at 3 PM today since I had already worked 45 hours this week. After meeting a new customer and doing a small sale with him, I left my sales team some instructions and headed home to work on some other projects.
    .
OH NO! Now it sounds like I work in sales!
    .
Can you guess what I do, Pat??
    .
And not to change the subject or anything, but what is the most recent CBO cost projection for the Health Care bill?
    .

    Jack,
    .
“So since you don’t get paid until you do a sale, you should work hard until you do a sale, not just put in your obligatory 40 hours a week.”
    .
When I owned my own taxi in Boston in 1995 and 1996 I used to put in 92 hours per week.
    .
For this job, I work from home, If it was my goal to exist in Swampland, it is ideal. It has some drawbacks.
    .
There are reasons I put in fewer or more hours. You don’t need to, or, I imagine, want to know about that.
    —————————————————————————–
    Dr. Earl Grey Tea,
    .
“…you have NEVER heard me complain about paying…’
    .
You have said innumerable times that your fear about HCR is that taxes are going to go up.
    .
If you do not feel that a tax raise for you is unaffordable or unjust, then I haven’t the slightest idea why you would oppose HCR.
    .
“Do you feel guilty about NOT carrying your share of the load?”
    .
Since I got my first job in 1987 I received unemployment benefits one year. What I have paid out is about one tenth of what I have paid in.
    .
I am healthy, so, I don’t need anything from the government.
    .
I very strongly believe that government backed student loans should cover 100% of tuition, but, if that were put in tomorrow, I still want to put in at least another year into this job for work credentials.
    .
So, my life would not change from any policy other than a second stimulus package and, at that, I would be third, fourth or fifth generation recipient as you would be a fourth or fifth generation recipient of such through dividends on stocks you own.
    .
My only self interest is that the economy gets better.
    .
HCR has nothing to do with me since I do not have any health problems.
    .
I just believe that is what a just society does.
    .
BTW: I was busy for a couple of hours and didn’t know that the two of you responded.

    .
    Well, sales and recycling…
    .
You work for a mobbed up waste disposal company and break kneecaps of anybody who doesn’t use your service?
    .
    No?
    .
Then you work for an honest waste management company and go door to door for businesses.
    .
Amusingly, if we were in the same town we should be referring each other work and giving each other leads.
    .
(BTW: Even not knowing, I am kidding about being a leg breaker. Obviously leg breakers are terrible people and I am presuming that you aren’t a terrible person.)

  • http://patricksartor.wordpress.com patricksartor

So, Earl, if this is not about you, then it would seem to me that you are worried about people paying more taxes.
    .
Out of 45M without health care, every year 45 thousand will die prematurely.
    .
Last year, for a previous company, I met with a client where my cut of the commission would have been one million dollars.
    .
No, that is not a once in a career deal. That is a once in ten careers deal. However, at any given moment I can make a very good commission when I least expect it and would pay NYC, NYS and Federal taxes out of it.
    .
    I don’t mind that.
    .
If my money goes towards those decreasing the 45K people a year who die prematurely due to lack of health care, I wouldn’t mind a tax increase on an income one tenth of that.
    .
For attacking extra countries for no known reason as the dubbya regime did, I do object to.
    .
Now that we are in Iraq, we broke it, now we have to pay for it.

I will take the $10 Power Puka version:
    .
This brings me back to a few years ago. My eldest son and his cousin were drunk and decided to go for a round of “Power Puka”.
    .
Samoans will tell you that this is a traditional punishment levied on miscreant children. My knucklehead and his cousin decided to take it to a new, and very painful level.
    .
The child, in preparation for a moderately gentle slap, grabs air and puffs out his cheeks in anticipation.
    .
    whap!
    .
Anyway, these two really intelligent “individuals” stand drunkenly, 3 feet apart. Of course, the “slappee” puffs out his cheeks, and the “slappor” uses a full force rubber arm roundhouse open handed swing at one or the other of the cheeks.

You work for a mobbed up waste disposal company and break kneecaps of anybody who doesn’t use your service?

    .

    Sort of.

    .
Some state and some national governments do force their citizens to use our company’s services (or the services of our competitors). So I guess that’s great job security for me. Kinda like being in the insurance business.
    .
Don’t you wish the government would pass a law saying that everyone has to buy a house, even if they don’t want one?
    .
That would help you out, wouldn’t it pat?

  • http://patricksartor.wordpress.com patricksartor

“Don’t you wish the government would pass a law saying that everyone has to buy a house, even if they don’t want one?”
    .
Just the same way that the government “forces” companies to buy health insurance by giving them a tax credit, people are “forced” to get married, have children and buy a house.
    .
When is that jackbooted fascist going to get here and force a sexy brunette on me?
    .
BTW: I have nothing to do with houses. I do office space, retail and could do industrial for a yard for your company’s trucks.

  • http://patricksartor.wordpress.com patricksartor

    Jack,
    .
I keep on hearing about the jackbooted thugs of government who, in addition to a tax incentive are going to coerce me to buy insurance since the government always hires jackbooted thugs when they provide tax incentives.
    .
So, about seventy five years ago, along with tax incentives just like the ones for health insurance, there are supposed to jackbooted thugs who are supposed to impose buying a house, getting married and having children on me.
    .
NYC is about 200 miles from DC and, I guess the buy a house thugs, get married thugs and the have children thugs have been stuck in traffic and haven’t made it up here over the past 75 years.
    .
I have a relative who is in DC who didn’t marry until she was 42 years old. She didn’t tell me about the jackbooted thugs, but, apparently, they haven’t even made it halfway through DC to impose marriage on people over the last 75 years, so, I have no idea when they are going to get even those marriage thugs, have children thugs and buy a house thugs up to New York.
    .
I bet I’ll have my own wife and children years before those thugs get up here.
    .
Either that or the concept of a tax incentive is even 1% similar to having things forced upon you is a big, fat load of bullsht along with libertarianism and modern right wing thinking.
