Romney Defends Bain Record, Hits Obama on Economy: ‘He Just Doesn’t Have a Clue’

Mitt Romney lashed President Obama’s economic stewardship in an interview with TIME’s Mark Halperin on Wednesday, deflecting attacks on his years as a private equity executive and laying out how he hopes to take control of the economy as soon as he’s sworn in, should he defeat Obama in November.

Mother of Mitt: How Lenore Romney’s Failed Campaign Shaped the Presumptive Republican Nominee

This week’s TIME cover story, “The Mother of the Mitt Campaign,” tells the tale of how Lenore Romney’s 1970 run for U.S. Senate may have made a bigger impression on the Republican presidential candidate than his years spent as the son of a governor. Mitt’s father lost his own presidential bid, but it was the lessons from his mother’s loss that are more instructive as Romney enters the campaign stretch.

Adam, you’re right; the title is attention-grabbing and the article is worth pondering. I mentioned before (mostly to KT, alas) that your swamp team and Stephen / Barbara’s CC riders should collaborate on pieces (esp. finance reform) and swap links more often. Can you get Stephen to post “500 words” biz photos at his morning reads? Oh, the Ben Bernanke captions will be a delight to write. Isn’t Kate close friends with Barbara? That would be a good team for FR stories.
    .
(btw, if Kate doesn’t post – or reply to us – today, pass along kudos for her Tuesday post on the failed Russian adoption.)

Perhaps things would be clearer if instead of talking about people who ‘pay no taxes’, we talked about people who’s tax payments are offset by credits delivered through their 1040′s. If we recognize that the difference between a tax cut and a government payment is simply a matter of semantics, then we’ll be able to have significantly less confusing and/or dishonest debates.

What a joke Armstrong and Aldrin were yesterday, crying about the need to freeze NASA in a time warp.

At 1 Billion per launch the low-yield Shuttle is finally getting retired, and Obama’s admin will review NASA in a comprehensive way. I don’t believe they will fund much beyond unmanned missions in this time of fiscal crisis.

Oh, yes, by all means, let’s sit on our collective exporatory a$$e$ until such time as the private sector can figure out how to make a buck “out there”.
    .
I’m sure the technical advances will be coming fast and furious as a result.

I think it’s peculiar that some people are saying *lower the budget!* at the same time that they say *increase NASA’s budget!*
