Palin Gears Up The Midterm Machine

Fresh off her re-election rally for John McCain in Arizona and Tea Party soirée in Searchlight, Sarah Palin is endorsing a trio of Iraq War veterans running for the House. The three Republican candidates are looking to unseat one- or two-term Democrats in competitive districts, and each has been touted by the National Republican Congressional Committee as part of its “Young Guns” program.

Vaughn Ward is challenging Walt Minnick in Idaho’s 1st; the race currently looks like a tossup despite the district’s heavy Republican leanings — McCain cracked 60 percent there in 2008, as did Bush in 2000 and 2004.

Allen West is taking his second run at Ron Klein in Florida’s 22nd and, while Palin’s backing might help him begin to close the gap with the Democrat’s formidable fundraising, it will be an uphill climb. Klein bested West 55-45 in their 2008 matchup.

Adam Kinzinger is hoping to unseat Debbie Halvorson in Illinois’ 11th. She’s taking some heat after the contentious health care vote, and is legitimately vulnerable in the swing district.

All three candidates could use the boost in dollars and attention, and Palin is expected to make appearances in their districts later this year. As in Searchlight, she’s relishing the martial language: “I believe that these great veterans will fight for us in D.C. to uphold and defend our constitution as courageously in the halls of Congress as they did on the field of battle.”

Romney Defends Bain Record, Hits Obama on Economy: ‘He Just Doesn’t Have a Clue’

Mitt Romney lashed President Obama’s economic stewardship in an interview with TIME’s Mark Halperin on Wednesday, deflecting attacks on his years as a private equity executive and laying out how he hopes to take control of the economy as soon as he’s sworn in, should he defeat Obama in November.

Mother of Mitt: How Lenore Romney’s Failed Campaign Shaped the Presumptive Republican Nominee

This week’s TIME cover story, “The Mother of the Mitt Campaign,” tells the tale of how Lenore Romney’s 1970 run for U.S. Senate may have made a bigger impression on the Republican presidential candidate than his years spent as the son of a governor. Mitt’s father lost his own presidential bid, but it was the lessons from his mother’s loss that are more instructive as Romney enters the campaign stretch.

Thanks Adam! Two links to Mark Halperin’s take on Palin in one day. My cup runneth over.

I don’t see that last quote as all that remarkable so as to invite commentary like “relishing the martial language”.
    .
Interesting that there is not much on the Cantor threat. Why is it when Dems (and the guy was an Obama supporter) threaten the GOP it just isn’t news, but let Clyburn fabricate a story about the n-word . . . .
    .
Speaking of political assassinations, it’s not like Dems have always been so opposed to them–remember, old John “Three Scratches and I’m Outie” Kerry was present when the assassination of US Senators was bandied about at a Winter Soldier meeting.

This woman seems to be fascinated with only one other thing besides herself: war metaphors. She is not only a loose cannon, she talks like one as well. Lets not forget that on her facebook page there is a map of congress men that need to defeated next November. She posted their names, addresses and used a rifle scope to indicate their place on the map. I think the “martial language” is well deserved.

When will she find the time? Doesn’t she have a new Alaskan reality show to attend to? And Fox appearances? And isn’t the paperback version of her book coming out? Sarah Palin is a very dangerous person. Her lack of knowledge of history emboldens her misuse of economic turmoil to stir the emotions of a frustrated populace. These are the first indicators of fascism at work – Similar to the economic troubles of Germany in the 1920′s – which gave rise to Adolph. ………

    Proto-fascist possibly would fit best.

When welfare reform forbade anybody born outside of the United States, even if they moved here an infants or as a very young child, the very first toe of fascism had gotten it’s foot in the door.
    .
I had parents – one alive one passed on – who were around in the conservative fabled 1950s and, even though one was conservative, neither saw it as an amazing time or even better than the present.
    .
The real 1950s did have a strong religious life, but not that much more so than today. It, also, upsetting the conservative dream, was the high point for organized labor.
    .
I see the Tea Party going one of two ways:
    1) When Democrats gain seats in this election or, at least do not lose any significant number, they may turn very violent.
2)As the result of the same, they may just get embarrassed, go back to their suburban lives and churches and stay out of politics.

During the Presidential primary, many pundits (Chris Matthews, etc) spent time exclaiming at Hillary Clinton’s shrillness and harshness. They thought her laugh was laughable. They critiqued her clothes and hair.
Now they will acknowledge Palin is amusing but I hear nothing of the particularly personal rhetoric used against Clinton.

I am only going to say this once in this thread.

If you want a job where you make judgments over money for the military, deployments or ANYTHING else that directly effects U.S. service personnel: I feel a legal prerequisite should be that you must have served in one of the branches of the service you seek to direct.

If you haven’t served, you shouldn’t be legally allowed to make decisions that affect those that do.

  • abdullah69

After the last few days, what is Sarah trying to do? Bring the activists back into the mainstream GOP, or push the mainstream further towards the activists?

Or does she believe she can create a third party based around the activists and the fundamentalists still within the Republican Party and run in 2012 from that base? The last election cycle showed how a relatively unknown player can win off the back of a sophisticated grassroots movement.

    //
Take some time to read the constitution. There was a reason that the founders wanted civilian control of the military. You, I am sure, can guess those reasons.
Commander in Chief is considered a civilian position, one of many duties of the President.
    //
The legislative branch was designated in the Constitution to raise and support appropriations for the armies and navy for 2 year periods.
    //
So your Constitutional amendment, the only means to change current status, would not allow any member of Congress who has not served in the military to make appropriations for army and navy support. If a President did not have military service he could not be Commander in Chief.
    //
Swasquatch are you considering a military junta of retired military men and women?

What if you are a medically PDQ (once known as 4F)?

    .

I think self proclaimed tough guys like Reagan and W. should have been called out for their lack of service – especially W since he did everything in his power to keep out of Vietnam while cheering it on – but somebody with a good imagination and empathy for our troops can be a good commander in chief.

  • http://phd9.blogspot.com Paul Dirks

Of course one of the most important reasons the founders insisted on Civillian control of the military is that they kew that the proper role of the military was the defense of the nation. People in the military often prefer to see their role as being to fight.

I am enjoying the “wild card” aspect of Sarah Palin’s ongoing saga.

She is as much a danger to the Republican Party as the Democrat Party.

  • earljr1

You simply have to love it! Sarah doing what she does best, tweaking liberal noses! The hen house gets to fluttering when Sarah meanders by and oh my…..the SELF importance of liberals emerges as they fall all over each other trying to discredit this courageous lady…one even offering a forthcoming sex scandal, to balance the playing field after the former liberal darling, John Edwards, proved himself to be a scumbag. What you self appointed, brilliant??(your description, definitely not mine) liberals fail to account, is the simple fact that Sarah’s biggest fan base comes from independent voters (the LARGEST segment of voters in the country) the same voters you LOVE to harpoon because of our attraction to the tea party. You have effectively driven that base (a recent poll shows 75% of independents now lean to the GOP) AWAY from the Democratic party and you will see the results of your folly, come November. Give ‘em HELL, Sarah. Weak kneed, breast beating liberals…. just make you that MORE attractive to independents ALL OVER (see Massachusetts) America!!

  • http://patricksartor.wordpress.com patricksartor

    Earl,
    This is the Tea Party:

    http://www.quinnipiac.edu/x1295.xml?ReleaseID=1436
    .
Only 13 percent of American voters say they are part of the Tea Party movement,
    .
    * 74 percent are Republicans or independent voters leaning Republican;
    * 16 percent are Democrats or independent voters leaning Democratic;
    * 5 percent are solidly independent;
    * 45 percent are men;
    * 55 percent are women;
    * 88 percent are white;
    * 77 percent voted for Sen. John McCain in 2008;
    * 15 percent voted for President Barack Obama.
    .
So, if they ran an independent candidate, they would take 9.64% from a Republican candidate and only 3.26% from a Democratic candidate.
    .
That is a net change away from Republicans of 6.38%.
    .

    Read more: http://swampland.blogs.time.com/2010/03/25/the-gop-response-to-the-intimidation-campaign-against-democrats/comment-page-4/#comment-151091#ixzz0jgL8zgOj

I think Sara Palin is hilarious.

  • http://patricksartor.wordpress.com patricksartor

More or less, any Republican member of congress who has less than 53% support in a district with a proportionally larger Tea Party third candidate will go to the Democrats.
    .
At 19.28% of the Republican Party, some Republicans will loose the Republican nomination and, the Democrat can take a third way Clinton strategy and triangulate the vote, that district, also, goes to the Democrats.
    .
She’s the best thing to happen to the Democrats since Obama and even better than Ross Perot.
    .
If “heads roll” as they say, it will not be Democratic heads. They will be Republican heads either rolling in the primary to some less electable or unelectable Tea party favorite or it will be a Republican head rolling in the general election due to a Tea Party third party candidate.
    .
That’s not to mention that Republican opposition and propaganda has set the bar so incredibly low for health care reform that the trajectory for Democrats who supported HCR is going to go up too – hopefully by November.
    .
If I were evil, I would recommend that every Democrat, after supporting our own candidates, send money to the Tea Party in every Republican congressional district where the Republican won by less than 53% and/or the Republican may lose the Republican nomination.
    .
I see about two to four election cycles from now Rockefeller Republicans being the last ones standing.
    .
I could vote for a Rockefeller Republican myself even.
    .
Please Earl, do encourage our girl Sara.

  • Ike Jakson

    earljr1

It seems we are in the minority here [the odd couple out so to speak, hehehe]; thus I shall wait for the election results come November [2010 and 2012] and let “We the People” speak.

  • earljr1

Patrick,You are safely ensconced behind your rose colored glasses and that is just fine with conservatives. Did you notice how SMALL your poll sample was? Did you know this very same poll declared Ted Kennedy’s seat SAFE for democrats? Did you learn NOTHING from Massachusetts, New Jersey and Virginia? Keep deluding yourself, my friend and we will revisit this topic in November….be prepared to eat some crow. There is a huge ground swell of angry Americans and it will be manifested at the polls. When a one paragraph notice in the paper can generate a turn out of 30,000 disenchanted Americans, then trust me, there is more going on than you can possibly imagine. Keep your mirth intact, it only aids our cause and we will answer your derisive commentary by showing up at the polls in record numbers.

  • earljr1

Yes, Ike, liberals think they can alter a fact by unleashing a torrent of words, something we conservatives laugh at. The proof of our position will come in November and then, expect the old liberal refrain, “we wuz robbed!”

  • http://patricksartor.wordpress.com patricksartor

    .
Likewise, I seem to remember that the infestors in this case were Teabaggers, elbowing their way through a much larger Black Family Reunion crowd (approx 660,000 strong) in an effort to confound those who use aerial photos to estimate crowd size.
    .

  • earljr1

Patrick, I was referring to the quinnipiac poll that declared the seat “safe” for democrats. Independents DO indeed make up the majority of tea party support, including myself and a rather large number of my colleagues. I have NOT met a SINGLE independent voter who intends on voting democrat in November and Rassmussen states that 75% of Independents now lean to the GOP. Mind you, Patrick, this same group voted FOR the democrats last election. They are now leaving in droves, driven in part, by the incessant ridicule that you and your cohorts so frequently dispense. We are good, tax paying Americans (and some of us are pretty darn smart, too) who just happen to feel threatened by the direction our country has taken.

There have been a few others, besides him, Teabaggers all, and I seem to remember that one of ‘em just the other week (I believe it was The Freeper) spouted on about how they “…don’t practice violence, but won’t shy away from it [sic]…”)
    .
Seen enough evidence to suit me. They’re Al-Queda in drag…

One heckuva wish list there, sasquatch.
    Why?
Does having served make righteous the taking of life?
    hitler served.
    stalin served.
Nixon was, and still is, a piece of work, but he did serve. Not that it made him any more honorable in the end.
Resigning while being impeached…does that mean he was dishonorably discharged?
Foolish ground to attempt, in any case.
As Washington indeed was a soldier in the greatest battle for our freedom, a war in which Adams didn’t serve?
    How could that be?
Don’t get me wrong. I understand the strength from serving…Theodore Roosevelt.
Holy Cow! was THAT a MAN! A betterman than you or me.
    Well, you, at least.
    d=))
Geez, after being elected the fat cows that put up the money to have him elected getting booted out of the White House!
    (I HATE monopolies!)
    And Eisenhower.
Another “Man’s Man” if you will.
Couldn’t cross that guy with anything.
    My Old Man knew him.
I didn’t get to meet him. I was a kid.
But the Old Man talked about him a lot. Good guy. Had his own message and he was serious.
    “Don’t trust the military/industrials.”
    Too bad we didn’t listen.
Let’s see, after him, how many Presidents did exactly that? Fill the coffers of the military/industrials?
    Kennedy*
    Johnson*
    Nixon*
    Ford*
    Carter*
    Reagan**
    Bush senior*
    Clinton
    Bush junior*
Obama (although that story may change up a bit soon enough, eh? I do believe he wants the clown in the mountains, a table for Palestinians and Jews to sit at, and we are out of there.
He must certainly want to track on daddy’s foot-prints and walk away with a balanced budget/fed surplus $250B)
    .
( * = served, where ** = pretended to serve in the movies, but instead trained, armed, and supplied bin laden)
    .
And speaking of Reagan, they want to replace Grant (on the $50 for those who like me, don’t make enough to see fifties that often) who did serve in the Army during the Indian Wars, and the Civil War under President Lincoln who served for three months in a militia group. (Didn’t they just arrest a bunch of guys in some kind of militia group in the mid-west?)
    .
Serve or no, the mark of a leader probably has more to do with the person, not the perception we get from advertising, hype, and the slant of whatever media throws at us. And, as there are at least twelve presidents with NO service, I think you may have overstepped your bounds a bit.
    .
Your point…It may explain as much as anything Bush junior’s propensity to snicker and giggle when talking about sending troops to Iraq to die when he served in a national guard unit that got questionably shorthanded when their tour came up.
But, what the heck. SOMEBODY voted for his lying mangy butt…. TWICE!

“US PRESIDENT Barack Obama’s signing of the healthcare Bill has achieved the political “bump” Democrats had predicted. A USA Today /Gallup poll published yesterday showed 49 per cent of Americans now consider the reform “a good thing”, compared to 40 per cent who said it was negative.”
    .

    .
Well, as for who you talk politics with is your business.
    .
I know without any doubt that New York City is not a national sample.
    .
When I did a Google News search for Independent voters, I found Earl as the source right here above.
    .
Earl, outside of people in your particular hospital and in your particular town, do have any surveys of any kind to back that number?
    .
It sounds like it came from the Faux News Channel to me.
    .
I can say 99% approve Obama’s job right now, but, I have no proof of it.

    Correction 53_3:
She is Dan Al_Quaylea in drag:
Dumb, super right wing and encouraging an armed insurgence against the US on religious grounds.

  • http://firstfarmandweatherreport.blogspot.com/ maxwelldog

Well, what the heck, I have a guess about her direction.
    It is misdirection
And why wouldn’t the RNC back that option?
It’s getting to be a danged game for these clowns to “play” with our lives and welfare. And the Democrats are the same way.
I don’t want to go off on them, but, it may do a bit better if we take the ten commandments and other statues off the courthouse lawns and public squares,
    and put guillotines on!

    nah.
It would come to a vote and guess who gets to vote on it and guess which way they’re going to vote?
Heck…they might just vote themselves in a raise, too.

  • http://firstfarmandweatherreport.blogspot.com/ maxwelldog

    she is mis-direction.

  • http://firstfarmandweatherreport.blogspot.com/ maxwelldog

Of course, perhaps the 2016 elections will see one of these fine youth running for Congress, or the Senate, or even…
    the U.S. President?
    .

  • http://firstfarmandweatherreport.blogspot.com/ maxwelldog

…then again, you still make the point, cause I’de vote for any one of these fine people for any election!
    Great Music to Rise By!

It is great to hear HOPE, it is great to watch this re-election bid of McCain. We have watched him fight this administration this year, we will continue to respect his fight, his integrity and his courage when fighting for all the people in this amazing state and country. I am a bit humored by the corrupt JD, that he thinks he has a chance against McCain. McCain did just receive an award for being the third most fiscally conservative member in Senate! This is respectable and yet another reason why I support this guy!

    Earljr1,
Your post speak the truth. Mention Sarah’s name and all the loons on this site come out of the woodwork. Why are they so afraid of this very capable Lady.
As Governor she held the highest approval rating of any Governor in the country.
Those commenter’s posting that she is dumb must be total idiots to make such absurd comments about her. She made no more dumb statements then Obama has made but of course he gets a pass from the loony left.

I have tried to figure out why the left goes totally nuts with the mention of her name.
I believe I have finally figured it out. They fear her influence on the electorate. They fear she is one person who can influence elections and cause the sinking of the Liberal-Left Ship. She is too American for them. She doesn’t fit their warped ideas of what an elitist women’s right person should be like. She too ordinary like most Americans.
The Left doesn’t really trust the majority of Americans. They know that leaders like Sarah appeal to these people and can prevent their agenda from moving forward.
Sarah will be one of the Leaders that will help Sink the Leftist Ship in November.

All you Palin haters will only add to her influence with the majority of Americans who see your irrational hate of this women as totally Un-American.
As usual you are your own worst enemy.

I have something that I want to ask you two to read. It is not my Blog [I mention that before I am accused of being a whore-blogger again] but a typical UK mudslinging contest between participating readers. I caution you that it is ugly but I don’t want to give you any further particulars except to mention that I am with a small group that do research on attitudes, perceptions and patterns in Blogging in America, the UK and Europe. The latter indirectly includes Australia because so many of them Blog in the UK and, lately, also in WordPress Groups. The Post in question is one of the latter.

    http://bearsy.wordpress.com/2010/03/29/dja-vu-all-over-again/

America, please, don’t ever become like this. For those who do not like Miss Sarah, please remember that she is an American. The voters will ultimately decide. America is known for honor and dignity; let us all work to keep it that way.

But you will then understand why I say what I do in my Post:

    http://ikejakson.wordpress.com/2010/03/26/cycles-and-circles-updated-for-2010/

You are most welcome to leave a comment of your choice there, but you don’t have to. I am not fishing for “Com[pli]ments”, just reactions. I leave it with you because I shall be away for a few days from tomorrow to be back on Tuesday 6th and you may therefore take your time.

  • http://patricksartor.wordpress.com patricksartor

    Ike,
You are both a blogwhore and one of the most confused political groups I have ever seen: English Conservatives.
    .
Every single time I see English conservatives (and I have met many, strangely enough considering that I have not traveled) and they believe that we have Ohio’s cost of living in Manhattan and Manhattan wages in Ohio, among other things.
    .
The first thing I have to tell them that the rural parts of the American Southeast and Midwest are like the North of England: few jobs, cheap housing, many who go onto join the military.
    .
We in America do not believe that Jimmy Carter was the idealist with Rose colored glasses. That was Ronald Reagan who was all smiles while Carter just gave nervous grins.
    .
Perhaps for foreign policy they came across the opposite, but, domestically, Reagan was Mr. Big Smile and all about rosy.
    .
Ike, I would recommend living in at least two or three regions of this country before having any expectation of understanding America.
    .
It’s been hundreds of years since the WASPs of the US were English and, after Germans and Irish, WASPs are only the third biggest ethnic group.
    .
    I found your entry irrelevant.
    .
I got in a few paragraphs and was not offended, but bored.
    .
English conservatives seem to think that the US is like them. You are more similar to Ireland and France than to the US despite language. (BTW: I have had many relatives and friends who said that, it was not a random guess.)

  • Ike Jakson

    To patricksartor

    My dear Friend

I can see that you have not travelled at all. Your remarks of me are way off the mark and you speak the words of an idiot.

BTW, and you have obviously never been to England or read one sentence about Ireland etc. BTW too, I don’t live there and I am no English British Conservative. I just study them.

Please don’t let America become like them. You are acting like them already, though more like the sick’s in the Blog that I used as an example; for the sake of America stop it.

I also did not address my comment to you. What is eating at your innards my friend?

  • http://patricksartor.wordpress.com patricksartor

    Ike,
I took a class in pre-Norman Irish history.
    .
My brother just spent two weeks in Ireland this Summer.
    .
I listen to BBC world News very often.
    .
My double major was economics and international relations.
    .
Except of the few and far between times when I run across an English conservative, I see that the English, an Irish woman I spoke to two days ago and almost everybody in Western Europe finds American conservatives halfway between amusing and frightening.
    .
I do expect to travel within the next few years.
    .
I have, most likely, judging from your remarks, read much more about Ireland and England than you have.
    .
Your blog reminds me of what they call a braigetori in Ireland. It has dangerously high levels of Hydrogen Sulfide.

  • http://patricksartor.wordpress.com patricksartor

BTW: The Irishwoman has been a nurse in both countries and is more qualified than Earl to talk about comparing two different systems unless Earl can surprise us with foreign work experience.
She has little good to say about American doctors and finds Irish doctors greatly superior.
