The Phony War: Obama and Romney Are Debating Character, Not Policy

More than five months from Election Day, the back-and-forth about Mitt Romney’s record at Bain already feels played out. Unfortunately, there’s good reason to expect the campaign continues in this vein indefinitely. Neither Barack Obama nor Mitt Romney are terribly interested in dwelling on policy platforms. Romney’s plan to slash spending and keep taxes low on the wealthy isn’t especially popular, at least not at any level of detail beyond a blithe promise to shrink the deficit. Meanwhile, Obama’s signature first-term achievements, like health care, the stimulus and Wall Street reform, are all unpopular or tricky to sell. (The Dodd-Frank bill is the most popular of these, but hyping it means offending wealthy donors.) So what we’re getting instead is a superficial duel about character–and, worse, one that’s based on the largely false premise that the better man can better “manage” the economy back to health.

I know what’s going to happen next:
NewFreedomblog, Freeinpa, spob, textee, Icy9 and the regular cast of Neocon dittohead characters are going to attack this.

For the rest of you, I bet I will get many interesting and useful insights.

Since I am working, I will skim through the NINE HUNDRED AND TWO PAGES over the weekend.

I saved the PDF on my computer, so, I might be able to have this figured out by Sunday.

  • destor23

How about now? Did you read it yet now? Is it good? :)

  • freeinpa

It will take liberals longer than the weekend to put enough shine on this to shove it past the American public. (patricksartor it will take you decades or more since you won’t find an answer in a text book)

The left, the President and Congress has lied from the start and no amount of contortions will this bill be budget neutral without much higher taxes, higher premiums or deep cuts in services.

  • http://patricksartor.wordpress.com patricksartor

You’re talking about a shoe you have never seen, hear, touched but generally heard of.

Why would you possibly go so far out of your way to fulfill my mildly insulting depiction of you/

You must like being called ignorant.

I hope that you don’t as was done to Al Gore rebuke me by saying my ideas are “broadly accurate”.

  • crdvis16

    Freeinpa:

If this bill did not pass at all the projections are that premiums would continue to rise anyway. Are you saying that premiums will rise even faster because of this bill? If so, are you able to support that?

  • http://patricksartor.wordpress.com patricksartor

    Freep,

My late father was an engineer and a meticulously cautious man. (He, also, knew with five Democrats under his roof not to talk politics). None of his ships ever came near sinking.

You are a chemical engineer but know for a fact that a bill you never read is a terrible one?

You left engineering twenty five years ago.
Funny, that’s when Union Carbide’s Bhopal disaster occurred when a carelessly built plant had water leakage leading to the poisoning of half a million people.

    Was that your handiwork?

You, definitely lack caution when it comes to making your entries.

Why don’t you impress me and show me you know how to read and get back with some actual FACTS about this bill.

  • freeinpa

“Why would you possibly go so far out of your way”

It shows a constant reminder that the true wing nuts and loons are on the condescending and arrogant left– you never fail to fulfill.

“You must like being called ignorant”
First you make the arrogant assumption (No surprise there) that one you actually have something of value and substance to say and second that I give a rats behind about what you do say.
    =
    “ideas are “broadly accurate”.

To say you have ideas is comical and to say anything is broadly accurate is a leap Evel Knievel could not make.

    =

“Are you saying that premiums will rise even faster because of this bill? If so, are you able to support that?”

Back to the 5th grade “prove it” Prove they won’t with real numbers not projections and forecasts that can’t be substantiated. Assumptions about economic growth that the WH provided are laughable and questioned by most economists. You cannot accurately forecast how many people will be working given that the unemployment will remain high long-term. So taxes must either rise on a shrunken work force and companies struggling to regain profitability from the recession which would push the economy back into a recession and explode an already ridiculous level of a deficit. Add the other deceptions of 4 yrs of taxes and non of services or $500 billion out of Medicare or any other illusion and it’s higher premium or bankruptcy for the country. We may get both.

Add all of the uninsured, those with pre-existing conditions and those who capped out requiring now higher level of services (Read costs) how do premiums go down? You could cut services or ration health care which the left swears won’t happen The only way to have premiums fall is Wishful thinking.

Costs for any government entitlement have exceeded estimates by multiples. To believe this will be any different is foolish at best. The proof is in the track record of the government. Taxes for SS, Medicare and Medicaid have gone up not down–so will premiums.

“He, also, knew with five Democrats under his roof not to talk politics”

    My condolences to your father.

    “Was that your handiwork?”

Again in your left loon rage you manged not to understand English. I worked in synthetic fuels which had nothing to do with Bhopal.

    “Why don’t you impress me”

Yep that’s my goal in life to to impress an self-absorbed arrogant nut job— Right after I check all the return springs in my ball point pens.

Back to the 5th grade “prove it” You, obviously are not an engineer but a fifth grade dropout.

What do engineers do for a living? You prove it.
My father won awards for his work by proving what could be done to make better cargo ships.

“…laughable and questioned by most economists…”

You’ve been ranting and raving since we went online that you do not believe any economists who have been arguing for universal health care for decades.

    Make a choice:

    1) Freep trusts economists and, therefore, supports health care reform since economists do. And trusting economists, doubts Obama will be able to do what he says he will do. (Which economists I do not know).

    2) Freep does not trust economists at all for anything and, therefore, has no way of knowing if the economy will go up or down due to the rest of what Obama is doing and knows from inhaling fumes of synthetic fuels that health care reform doesn’t work.

    “My condolences to your father
When he had a point to prove – rarely about politics since that was not what he thought about much – he would would sit us down and “prove it” with facts, not like you just taking things from your least pleasant orifice and posting it.

Having had college and post college friends who were engineers, if you asked an engineer to prove something, then, when you least expected it, a week later, there would be a long highly precise explanation with numbers and graphs.

Clearly you either are not an engineer or inhaled too many fumes.

  • freeinpa

Clearly you either are not an engineer or inhaled too many fumes.

Clearly you are an arrogant idiot. The only “facts” you want is what agrees with you. Otherwise you head right to the condescending know it all attitude.

  • http://patricksartor.wordpress.com patricksartor

You are not even vaguely interested in any constructive dialog about anything tied to the issues I have seen you posting on.

    What exactly motivates you?

    Really?

If you want to go find people to exchange insults with online or offline, due to how you call everybody who even vaguely disagrees with you about everything an idiot or somehow mentally inferior to you, you very easily could find four or five hundred arguments a day.

If you had this brilliant career and this extremely difficult education, you’d just look at your diploma on the wall and say, “I know I am an engineer, why would I possibly argue this with somebody?”

Then you would go offline and experience the rest of your life.

  • http://patricksartor.wordpress.com patricksartor

    LOL

If you want to say something is small, you bring up an electron microscope.

You are saying that your interest in me is an incredibly large celestial body but many light years from here?

If you really are half as educated as you say you are, then, seriously, you’re overwhelmed with stress to the point of not thinking even vaguely clearly and really need R & R rather than posting insults at me.
