This Week In Third Party Ad Spending: The Health Care Tsunami

If you don’t want to hear any more about health care this week, you may have to do more than just avoid Swampland. Third party groups are coming out in force, on both sides of the issue, targeting national cable audiences and key congressional districts. The specific sources of funding for many of the ads has not been disclosed. Here is a sample.

    The Phony War: Obama and Romney Are Debating Character, Not Policy

    More than five months from Election Day, the back-and-forth about Mitt Romney’s record at Bain already feels played out. Unfortunately, there’s good reason to expect the campaign continues in this vein indefinitely. Neither Barack Obama nor Mitt Romney are terribly interested in dwelling on policy platforms. Romney’s plan to slash spending and keep taxes low on the wealthy isn’t especially popular, at least not at any level of detail beyond a blithe promise to shrink the deficit. Meanwhile, Obama’s signature first-term achievements, like health care, the stimulus and Wall Street reform, are all unpopular or tricky to sell. (The Dodd-Frank bill is the most popular of these, but hyping it means offending wealthy donors.) So what we’re getting instead is a superficial duel about character–and, worse, one that’s based on the largely false premise that the better man can better “manage” the economy back to health.

    And thanks to the SCOTUS, we don’t need to know who’s behind these ads.

    Just imagine what kind of real health care we could have if all the lobbying and advertising money were devoted to something like actual patient care or drugs. Of course it still wouldn’t get us to the level of the rest of the world, but at least it would make more of a mark than any of these ads will.

    I view these like the pieces of paper that workers push into your hands before you go into the polling place. Not going to change any minds after all this time.

    Like you can’t figure it out? the only ones I even listen to are ones without Obama’s voice or face.. those I mute just like he mutes what the majority of the people want..

    Let’s see a majority is a good thing so he can win the election but a bad thing when the people say NO to his agenda.. what a farce this government has turned out to be first Bush now Obama both stink

    Sounds like you agree with their decision. I didn’t mention anything about who’s in office at all. It’s clear however that neither your voice nor mine carries any weight–nay, less than zero–thanks to the Supremes.
