Paterson Ends Campaign

New York Governor David Paterson will not seek election to a full term in office.

Dogged by low approval ratings and allegations he intervened in the assault case of a close aide, Paterson still faces calls to resign.

Democrats in Washington, including the president, had opposed the governor’s campaign plans. Andrew Cuomo, New York’s attorney general and the son of former Governor Mario Cuomo, was expected to challenge Paterson in a Democratic primary and is widely considered the favorite to succeed him in Albany.

The Phony War: Obama and Romney Are Debating Character, Not Policy

More than five months from Election Day, the back-and-forth about Mitt Romney’s record at Bain already feels played out. Unfortunately, there’s good reason to expect the campaign continues in this vein indefinitely. Neither Barack Obama nor Mitt Romney are terribly interested in dwelling on policy platforms. Romney’s plan to slash spending and keep taxes low on the wealthy isn’t especially popular, at least not at any level of detail beyond a blithe promise to shrink the deficit. Meanwhile, Obama’s signature first-term achievements, like health care, the stimulus and Wall Street reform, are all unpopular or tricky to sell. (The Dodd-Frank bill is the most popular of these, but hyping it means offending wealthy donors.) So what we’re getting instead is a superficial duel about character–and, worse, one that’s based on the largely false premise that the better man can better “manage” the economy back to health.

Great news. The conservatives can join us liberals in celebrating.

  • freeinpa

Celebrate? Why would anyone celebrate another corrupt politician. NY now has the trifecta: Spitzer, Paterson and Rangel.

Who would of thought the politican with the least amount of ethical problems at this point would be H. Clinton?

  • sacredh

Celebrate Paterson not running, not celebrate Paterson himself. I’m happy to see that s taking himself out of the process.

“Who would of thought the politican with the least amount of ethical problems at this point would be H. Clinton?”
    .
    Me.

  • freeinpa

    “Me.”

    Sacredh Party of 1.

Will you celebrate Rangel too? Pelosi claimed Demos were going to drain the swamp. Seems they are the Swamp

  • sacredh

It’s only a party of 1 because I’m the only one to have weighed in so far.
    .
Yes, I’ll celebrate Rangel too. I’ll also celebrate when the republicans that are under ethics clouds announce they aren’t running for re-election either. The swamp is by no means limited to democrats.
    .
Crooks are crooks. The only time I’ll support a democratic crook is when they are running against a republican crook. Then it just comes down to me wanting to have a crook from my party as opposed to a crook from your party.

OT, but the 4-10″ of projected snow last night turned into 1-2″ today. It is snowing pretty hard out there now and the wind is howling. Thankfully we have a bunch of new movies to watch and the Cavs are playing again tonight.

  • afguy

Yes, free, I wouldn’t push the “Dems are the ones with ethical problems” meme too much.
    .
Not with “Diaper Dave” and John Ensign out there still serving and in apparently in good standing with their fellow GOPers.
    .
sacredh, I still remember the Louisiana gov election with Edwin Edwards and David Duke as the candidates. Edwards was under indictment and Duke was the former KKK Grand Wizard. (How the LA GOP could allow someone like that out of the primaries is STILL beyond me…)
    .
Edwards campaign slogan was “Vote for the crook… it’s important.” And he won. No, not ALL crooks are created equal.

  • afguy

But, ultimately, the country will be better off if we keep as many of them out of the legislature and positions of power as possible.

  • freeinpa

You are right there are scoundrels on both sides. However, it was San Fran Nan who claimed it is them not us. And yet we sit with the Head of the Tax writing committee still sitting at its head. Not only did he ignore tax rules, he now does the Demo manly thing and blames staff.

Isn’t it great to have the guy writing the laws and the guy responsible for enforcing them (Geitner) to be low life tax cheats, yet they both continue to collect tax payer money

Oh freeper, I wouldn’t start the list of corrupted officials. The list crosses party lines.
