Re: Mitt Romney’s Plane Incident

Okay, having read and seen the other side of this story, all I can say is:

I’m with Mitt on this one.

The Phony War: Obama and Romney Are Debating Character, Not Policy

More than five months from Election Day, the back-and-forth about Mitt Romney’s record at Bain already feels played out. Unfortunately, there’s good reason to expect the campaign continues in this vein indefinitely. Neither Barack Obama nor Mitt Romney are terribly interested in dwelling on policy platforms. Romney’s plan to slash spending and keep taxes low on the wealthy isn’t especially popular, at least not at any level of detail beyond a blithe promise to shrink the deficit. Meanwhile, Obama’s signature first-term achievements, like health care, the stimulus and Wall Street reform, are all unpopular or tricky to sell. (The Dodd-Frank bill is the most popular of these, but hyping it means offending wealthy donors.) So what we’re getting instead is a superficial duel about character–and, worse, one that’s based on the largely false premise that the better man can better “manage” the economy back to health.

No lap dances, right KT? Maybe next time we’ll see a rapper tied to the roof of the Country Squire!

So Romney said, could you please put your seat into an upright position and the dude swung at him??
Possible, but not probable except if the “suspect” was drunk when he “attacked”.

Appearance is everything! I hope the “suspect” did not have a heavy gold chain on his neck, Blings everywhere and grills in his mouth when the incident occurred– even though of course, we know that no one is profiled and people are treated equally always, always. :)

I watched the TMZ clip and the man sounded believable, however, eye witness testimony might have contradicted him. Otherwise, I do not think Romney would have taken his own version to the press.

    *sigh*

Not me. Looks like Romney presumed to issue directives to this other passenger, quite possibly involving the “laying on of hands.”

It’s not hard to imagine a multimillionaire with delusions of national leadership thinking it’s his right to grab a guy’s shoulder and issue orders to him, instead of just hitting the call button and asking a cabin attendant to do his/her job.

The reporting I’ve seen says this happened before, not during, before takeoff, so no need for Mittens unilaterally to “take charge” of another passenger just because his wife didn’t want the guy in front of her to use the “lean back” function built into airplane seats.

Imagine the reverse: some self-styled badass rapper grabbing Romney by the shoulder and telling him what to do. I’m guessing the same guy would have wound up being removed from the plane.

My, my, my. Seems it’s OK to “profile” the middle-aged white guy. And, TMZ is of course one of the most credible media outlets in the world. Tell you what…imagine for a moment it was you in the seat behind Mr. Hip-hop. Now, be honest with yourself…would you react differently if the seatback were slammed into you?

Of course they can always “paint the White House Black” before Romney takes possession back from the current squatters. :D
    .
When will Americans look at the thugs, who call themselves “rappers”, and rebuke them back into the hole they crawled out of?

  • FlownOver

If the seatback were slammed into me, as you posit, I’d talk to the cabin attendant immediately about a dangerous, defective seat on the airplane. They’re designed to recline a little, and the people sitting behind are expected to live with it. I think this was just Romney being his anal-retentive “Take Charge” Type-A self.
    .
And nobody has to “profile” Mitt Romney. I can base an individual expectation of his behavior – noted as my opinion, thank you – on his specific public conduct.
    .
And what does TMZ have to do with anything? Looks like you’re the one making assumptions.

    The Village Has Spoken.

I’m wondering why Romney is automatically given more credibility than a second-string rapper. The stories from each side don’t jibe.

uh why is this still a topic? oh yeah, gotta keep Mitt in the news as much as possible.

  • http://theblindspotsofgod.wordpress.com lawyermommy

Hmmm …If he was profiled, he has nothing to show for it. He (Romney) continued on his flight and now all that has followed him is this type of banal discourse here on Swampland and elsewhere.

If you are “profiled” on a discussion board, that is not by any means comparable to the real thing.

    Peace; I’m out.

Can’t wait for her to tell Mittie to shut up.

  • sasquatch08

Funny how no one points out that you’re not supposed to recline your seat during takeoff or landing…
