Mitt Romney’s Plane Incident: The Other Side Of The Story (LMFAO)

I’m willing to bet that Mitt Romney has never rocked out to “I’m In Miami Bitch.” Sample lyric: “Drink all day/Play all night/Let’s get it popping/I’m in Miami, bitch. . . . It’s morning time/And the girls still there/They lying naked/With some asses in the air.”

But Mitt Romney is now familiar with LMFAO, the rap duo (RedFoo and Sky Blu) who wrote the song. After all, it was one of the members of LMFAO who allegedly tried to hit Romney after boarding a flight from Vancouver. Romney spokesman Eric Ferhnstrom described Romney as an innocent bystander in the event. After a “passenger became physically violent,” Ferhnstrom said, “Gov. Romney did not retaliate but instead let the airline crew respond to the incident.”

Sky Blu, who happens to be the nephew of Democratic fundraiser and Motown Records founder Berry Gordy, said Romney shouted at him disrespectfully and then grabbed his shoulder. Blu said he responded to Romney by knocking the hand off him, which Romney apparently interpreted as a swing. “I’m not a salmon going upstream. You are not going to grip me up.” Blu’s rather hilarious video explanation of his encounter with Romney, courtesy of TMZ, follows after the jump.

By the way, LMFAO is an acronym, for a phrase I am not able to print in full on Swampland. The safe-for-Youtube video for “I’m In Miami Bitch” is just barely acceptable for Swampland–as a link, but not an embed.

I’m willing to bet that Romney does not make it a 2012 campaign theme.

The Phony War: Obama and Romney Are Debating Character, Not Policy

More than five months from Election Day, the back-and-forth about Mitt Romney’s record at Bain already feels played out. Unfortunately, there’s good reason to expect the campaign continues in this vein indefinitely. Neither Barack Obama nor Mitt Romney are terribly interested in dwelling on policy platforms. Romney’s plan to slash spending and keep taxes low on the wealthy isn’t especially popular, at least not at any level of detail beyond a blithe promise to shrink the deficit. Meanwhile, Obama’s signature first-term achievements, like health care, the stimulus and Wall Street reform, are all unpopular or tricky to sell. (The Dodd-Frank bill is the most popular of these, but hyping it means offending wealthy donors.) So what we’re getting instead is a superficial duel about character–and, worse, one that’s based on the largely false premise that the better man can better “manage” the economy back to health.

This could be a serious detriment to Romney’s campaign. This could cost him the nomination…

I rarely side with Mittens, but I’m with him on this one.

I’m 6’4″ and when someone slams a seatback into my knees on a flight, it’s the worst thing in the world.

  • nflfoghorn

Which is funnier – the incident or MS’s reaction to “…***es in the air.”

  • nflfoghorn

And I don’t know why “Like Me, Fat All Over” is so offensive! :)

I guess it would be in the air if you’ve laughed it off, tho’.

Gordy’s nephew is part of this band? Ai yi yi. This is NOT Gaye and Terrell material for sure.

  • pafro

Let me guess, this happened in First Class. Romney’s 3 feet of legroom was intruded and got all hurt. If you can’t handle a little inconvenience on an airplane, how are you supposed to handle al Qaeda?

  • allthingsinaname

Frankly I could give a shit.

  • http://randomkirk.wordpress.com randomkirk

What the heck does that mean? Talk about twisted logic. I guess it makes sense to turn everything into a political statement if you don’t like the guy’s politics. Maybe, just maybe, the hip-hop, rapper, gangsta wannabe was being an obnoxious annoying jerk.

  • allthingsinaname

    Frankly I could care less

  • http://2thirdsrocks.wordpress.com 2thirdsrocks

A hip hop rapper gangsta wannabe, being an obnoxious jerk? That couldn’t possibly be so RK.
    .
Romney is a republican. That automatically makes him the bad guy. Period

  • tjoyce994

“Maybe, just maybe, the hip-hop, rapper, gangsta wannabe was being an obnoxious annoying jerk.”
    -
That may be. But even an obnoxious jerk has the right to not be touched against his will. And who is more obnoxious than Mitt Romney? If that’s a crime, then everyone should have been arrested. Romney couldn’t call in a flight attendant to defuse the situation?

  • Paul-no not that one

Pafro: It was in coach. I confirmed that the other day. And the guy moved back into Ann Romney’s lap during takeoff.

  • tjoyce994

Romney isn’t a bad guy because he is a republican. He’s wrong because he shouldn’t have put his hands on the guy. Actually, he’s the one acting gangster: I’m coming after you because you invaded my space. Oh, wait. That’s republican.

  • http://theblindspotsofgod.wordpress.com lawyermommy

Why was HE taken off the flight if there was an altercation and Romney –the other Brawler, left to fly ????? Hmmmm….

If events really unfolded as he claims they did, I hope he lawyers up and goes after the airline AND Romney.

I don’t think the song lyrics are any more relevant that Romney’s politics. It’s alright for Romney to act this out with Tony Bennett?

  • grape_crush

Yup, first class. You can tell that in the first few seconds, as the airport cops enter the plane.
    .
What the heck does that mean?

    grape_crush-

I’d point out how ignorant you sound, but Tumulty has already done that. Love the way all you lefties leap to your own conclusions about people with whom you disagree. What ever happened to judging someone by their character, not the color of their skin? I know, because he’s a white, LDS, Republican, he automatically goes around taking pot shots at innocent black bystanders. What a crock.

  • grape_crush

Whoops. The video looks like it was taken in the front of the plane. What the Romneys and SkyBlu were doing in coach…?

  • http://twitter.com/ktumulty Karen Tumulty

grape: that was the point of my original post on this subject:

    .
the only time i ever flew with him, it was in a small chartered airplane. (about six or eight seats, as i recall.) but that was during a campaign, when that is pretty much SOP. his aides tell me that he usually flies coach, and is especially partial to jet blue.

  • dwimby

Now this incident is much more clear! I get it now. It could have happened to anyone…

  • http://2thirdsrocks.wordpress.com 2thirdsrocks

    Rap is Crap

  • http://randomkirk.wordpress.com randomkirk

    grape-

If Romney was flying Jet Blue (or any commuter airline), there is no first class…in the front of the plane or anywhere else. Jump to a different conclusion.

  • grape_crush

    Tumulty has already done that.
    .
What? Confirmed that the guy moved his seat back? Dunno how that makes me sound ignorant, random.
    .
What ever happened to judging someone by their character, not the color of their skin?
    .
Oh, like assuming a black person is a ‘gangster wannabe’? Your hip-hoprisy is showing, random.
    .
I know, because he’s a white, LDS, Republican, he automatically goes around taking pot shots at innocent black bystanders.
    .
He’s also prone to lying through his teeth when it’s in his self-interest.

  • grape_crush

..his aides tell me that he usually flies coach, and is especially partial to jet blue.
    .
It was an Air Canada flight, but that’s unimportant. The video in the clip provided looks like it was taken from the front of the plane, so first I assumed first class. Apparently the rest of the world is hyper-aware of Romney’s flight habits.
    .
Now…what was Romney doing putting his hands on another person?

  • http://randomkirk.wordpress.com randomkirk

    grape-
I know…the lyrics, the bling, the entire getup…he’s emulating a commodities trader, right?
    .
As for your assumptions on Romney, I stand by my comment. The “World According to Grape” (and most closed-minded lefties): Middle-aged, Republican white guy equals racist, rapacious, insensitive, etc. One man’s profiling is another’s political conviction, right?

  • pafro

    Okay it was in coach.
I get annoyed at the people who recline their seats early, but I would guess that 15-20% of airline passengers do this and I’ve never seen anyone else cause a scene like Romney. Just shows his sense of entitlement, as well as the rapper guy’s sense of entitlement. That they couldn’t handle this like adults. This is two jerks trying to show each other up.

I would like to see how Romney would react to the redneck family who let their 2 year old kick me and cough at me with her mouth uncovered for three straight hours on a flight out of Houston? I would rather have someone recline their seat into me rather than deal with that situation again.

  • tjoyce994

“Middle-aged, Republican white guy equals racist, rapacious, insensitive, etc. One man’s profiling is another’s political conviction, right?
    -
So if this were Elton John who reclined his seat, Romney would have grabbed his shoulder too? Do you really believe that?

  • cfukara

    1) We, the Americans, kick passengers off the plane for being smelly. And too fat. And too loud. And suspiciously Muslim. And too semitic. (Well. Maybe not the last one nowadays, eh? Behold, the torturously twisted mind of the prejudiced.)
The reclined seats are designed by our good (unionized American) engineers not to be unduly bothersome to most (say, over 66% of) passengers. Maybe there is (pre-existing physical or attitudinall) reason why Romney should NOT fly with the rest of us – the normal riff-raff, the hard-working, very hardworking Americans.

    2) I do, but do you remember that feisty dwarfish pal who loved to start fights with the big boys – and then he would stand back and watch you get clobbered? Or the neighbour who taunts and prods and pushes your buttons – then calls the police on you when you react like a normal human?

    3) We are bothered by the unmistable tinge of overt/covert racism that permeates the rhetoric coming from the strident members of Romney’s party of rightist militancy. Does Romney have a quarrel with everyone who resembles, or may even remotely resemble, BHO of the DEMs?

  • cfukara

    2thirdsrocks: ” ..Rap is Crap ..”

What do you about rap, nyetrocks?

  • sasquatch08

“He’s also prone to lying through his teeth when it’s in his self-interest.”
    .
So are Bill Clinton, Barney Frank and Harry Reid… so your point is what exactly?
    .
Politicians all lie through their teeth, except when they’re talking out of another orifice on their body…

  • grape_crush

I know…the lyrics, the bling, the entire getup…
    .
Really? The guy on the video was wearing a hat and a t-shirt…the outfit was pretty sedate. Not even close to Flavor Flav in his heyday. Even if he was, that’s still no excuse for Romney putting his hands on him.
    .

Middle-aged, Republican white guy equals racist, rapacious, insensitive, etc.

    .
Nope. I’m talking specifically about Romney. You’re the one making the sweeping generalization, not me. Is that what you really think about Republicans?

  • grape_crush

So your point is what exactly?
    .
That you can’t always take Mittens at his word. That shouldn’t be a difficult point to grasp.

  • http://2thirdsrocks.wordpress.com 2thirdsrocks

Pretty much what anybody knows about it cfart. Monotonous, mindless drivel just about sums it up.

  • cfukara

    “Monotonous, mindless drivel”
“drivel” is in the ears of the listner. [For instance, have you ever overheard the sweet nothings of some characters you detest?]

And rap will prosper (in $Billions a year) – as long as there are those millions who tune into it – including those prudes who listen long enough to discover that it is monotonous, mindless drivel.

  • sasquatch08

“That you can’t always take Mittens at his word. That shouldn’t be a difficult point to grasp.”
    .
As I pointed out, that is a redundant statement because you can almost never take ANY politician at their word. THAT shouldn’t be a difficult point to grasp.
