Michelle Obama to appear on Mike Huckabee’s show this weekend on Fox.

Both of them, of course, are waging public campaigns against obesity. Will they also find time to discuss Huckabee’s recent declaration that he was not “abandoning Jesus” by inviting Obama Girl on the show?

The Phony War: Obama and Romney Are Debating Character, Not Policy

More than five months from Election Day, the back-and-forth about Mitt Romney’s record at Bain already feels played out. Unfortunately, there’s good reason to expect the campaign continues in this vein indefinitely. Neither Barack Obama nor Mitt Romney are terribly interested in dwelling on policy platforms. Romney’s plan to slash spending and keep taxes low on the wealthy isn’t especially popular, at least not at any level of detail beyond a blithe promise to shrink the deficit. Meanwhile, Obama’s signature first-term achievements, like health care, the stimulus and Wall Street reform, are all unpopular or tricky to sell. (The Dodd-Frank bill is the most popular of these, but hyping it means offending wealthy donors.) So what we’re getting instead is a superficial duel about character–and, worse, one that’s based on the largely false premise that the better man can better “manage” the economy back to health.

Sorry, watching my recording of Jon Stewart on Bill O’Reilly used up the brain cells I had available for any Fox viewing for the year. Look forward to hearing about this.

Huckabee, given his family history, ought to take up the cause of animal cruelty.

What I want to know is if anyone in the media will finally acknowledge how much weight he has re-gained. If a woman politician had put on as much weight as he has, it would not go unmentioned–especially not if she had written a book about her weight loss and used it as part of her self-promotion and campaign. Actually, they didn’t let it slide with that other former Arkansas governor, either. Why does Huckabee go unscathed in this regard?

  • queencersei

Hey spob, I’m not a Huckabee expert. What are you referring to regarding his family history?

  • queencersei

Agreed. There would be a huge spread in Us Weekly or OK Magazine about how he was in some crisis and was packing on the weight. Complete with unflattering shot of him in a too tight outfit.

Not me. Glass house. I have finally lost all the weight I gained on the 2008 campaign. (Thank you, Weight Watchers!) But here’s a stroll down memory lane:

@queencersei: I think you’re too optimistic. I think it would be covered in MSM newspapers and mags and on cable “news,” too.

Wouldn’t it be better to go in the other direction: To not care about a woman politician’s weight either?

I loathe Mike Huckabee. I would have a very difficult time voting for him even over Obama.

  • queencersei

Thanks Spob. I hadn’t read that report before. Animal cruelty is one indicator of disturbed behavior. I wouldn’t be surprised if sonny has other disturbing misdeeds in his past. As for Huck, I wouldn’t worry about him too much. I think having two Willie Horton incidents in his past has probably done in his chances for the Presidency.

“Wouldn’t it be better to go in the other direction: To not care about a woman politician’s weight either?”

    A girl can dream …

  • spob

I dont recall a ton of media scrutiny about Stabenow’s weight–especially given the fact that her husband had to pay to get lucky. Not that there should have been.

  • shepherdwong

“Animal cruelty is one indicator of disturbed behavior.”
    .
More than bad behavior, it’s also one indicator of a deficit in normal human empathy, i.e., possible sociopathic personality.

  • queencersei

If he also wet the bed into a later age and likes to play with matches ole Mike had better be watching his son very closely.

  • sacredh

Thanks spob. I’d never heard of this before. People that mistreat (and kill) animals for fun are beyond sick. I’m not against hunting animals for food at all. I also don’t think we ever have to worry about Huckabee becoming President even if this story never saw the light of day.

  • Bemused

“her husband had to pay to get lucky.” He *had* to pay? Really? Was the poor guy being denied sex by his wife?
