Robert Gibbs Pokes At Sarah Palin’s Hand

Prediction: This whole write stuff on your hand thing will not jump the shark until it appears in an episode of the Simpsons.

Gibbs, of course, was poking fun at Sarah Palin’s use of her hand over the weekend at the Tea Party Convention, which Sarah Palin proceeded to poke fun at on Monday, as did Andrea Mitchell on MSNBC.

The Phony War: Obama and Romney Are Debating Character, Not Policy

More than five months from Election Day, the back-and-forth about Mitt Romney’s record at Bain already feels played out. Unfortunately, there’s good reason to expect the campaign continues in this vein indefinitely. Neither Barack Obama nor Mitt Romney are terribly interested in dwelling on policy platforms. Romney’s plan to slash spending and keep taxes low on the wealthy isn’t especially popular, at least not at any level of detail beyond a blithe promise to shrink the deficit. Meanwhile, Obama’s signature first-term achievements, like health care, the stimulus and Wall Street reform, are all unpopular or tricky to sell. (The Dodd-Frank bill is the most popular of these, but hyping it means offending wealthy donors.) So what we’re getting instead is a superficial duel about character–and, worse, one that’s based on the largely false premise that the better man can better “manage” the economy back to health.

  • apr2563

Needs Tina Fey to put talking to the hand in true perspective. What fun.

  • dumdedumdum

Possibly, but Palin may successfully double back on it by voicing herself on the Simpson and do her own lampooning.

  • rustyreturns

You mean Gibbs is smart enough to actually write something on his hand?
    .
Oh this is so funny!! How cute. The world is going to hell in a handbasket, and all our White crew can do is poke fun at Sarah Palin.
    .
Well here is a thought. We the People are going to poke some fun this November. Get it??

  • spob

Gee, doesn’t Gibbs remember whom he works for? Lessee:
    .
    (1) “corpseman” (repeated 2x)
    .
    (2) giving “shout-outs” after being informed that 13 servicemen had been murdered
    .
    (3) having his wife show up to a posthumous MOH ceremony in a garish cocktail dress.
    .
    (4) “Austrian” language
    .
and the list goes on and on. I bet Palin knows how to pronounce “corpsman”. Obama also doesn’t know how to pronounce “nucular”–I wish he’d learn.

Give me an effing break Sarah deserves mocking just like anyone else. If she wants to tango with the big boys, she better put on her dancing shoes.

Why should we have to be deferential to her? When Snipergate broke out people from all stripes attacked Hillary mercilessy..rightfully so, because she was making it seem as she was in some WW2 episode.

Palin mocks Obama for giving speeches using a teleprompter (although she uses notecards)…but then during a Q and A(in which she already knew the Qs) she uses hand notes like some 7th grader.

Cry me a river, build a bridge and Get over it. You can’t throw snowballs and hide behinds your moms skirt.

Will Sarah’s “talk to the hand” be as big a gaffe as George HW Bush looking at his watch?

Haven’t watched the vid yet….but I’m not sure it could top Colbert’s takedown of Palin last night, anyways. That was ridiculously poignant and epic.

Not really, Rorschach. Being a jerkoff is the only life he’s ever known. It’s quite sad.

In 2012 when Barack Obama loses his bid for a 2nd term (in a LANDSLIDE), poor forgotten has-been Robert Gibbs will be forced to write a “tell all” book about how corrupt his ego-maniac of a boss was for 4 years – you can put MONEY $$ on this prediction!

I’m looking forward to Todd’s “tell all” book when he drops the bombshell that Sarah’s not as smart as everybody thinks she is.

  • Exiled_At_Home (formerly Neo)

There is a point to be made, however, in that this is not exactly the conduct that we would expect, or should accept from our WH Press Secretary. Not Gibbs. Not Perino. Not anyone. I understand the allure of a light-hearted atmosphere, but this type of behavior -juvenile ridiculing of a political figure of the opposition party- is delinquent and utterly beneath the respectability of the White House. It exhibits a lack of seriousness and illuminates the malfunction of Washington.

  • jsfox

Well first Gibbs and now this. Two good laughs in one post.

  • nylarthotep

Love having Obama’s mouthpiece making fun of someone about writing a couple words on her hand when Obama can’t even address a sixth grade class without a teleprompter or two.

Apparently Obama isn’t as smart as he keeps telling you he is.

  • teleprompter1

I guess not. But then someone needs to tell Hussein he needs glasses or better contacts for the “corpsman” gaff. Although, it might not be a gaff because it was said more than a few times. Or maybe someone sabatoged his teleprompter.

Or of course the full blown teleprompter set up for the speech to a group of 6th graders. Hussein is a such a joke.

  • slowp

Hey, ny, you’re cracking me up!!! Obama sure didn’t need a teleprompter to humiliate the entire Repub caucus on live TV last week, did he? Is it because they’re dumber than 6th graders?

gibbs blabbers and because Sarah taught him where his hand is, he not makes fun of her. The whole left liberal world hates her because she is smart and down to earth. I know she can see russia out her front window because I can see it out mine. Plus I know that Obama doesn’t even know how many states make up the U.S. he is trying to ruin. Is it 57 or 58, hopefully someone has informed him by now. Jealousy and hate are dividing our country and the left says the right promotes it. What is the left doing?

  • kevin

Seriously, what is this weird obsession that conservatives have with the teleprompter?
    .
Yes, Obama uses it. So did Bush, Clinton, Bush, and even the Great and Saintly Reagan….
    .
Obsessing over his use of the teleprompter is like obsessing over the fact that he enjoys Secret Service protection or they play “Hail to the Chief” when he enters a room. (Actually, I’m sure those complaints will be coming soon. “Who does this guy think he is? The king?”)
    .
But more to the point, we have ample evidence that he doesn’t need it. He cleaned McCain’s clock in the debates, he thrives at the town hall format, and as we just saw recently, he didn’t need a teleprompter to wipe the floor with the House Republicans.
    .
I just don’t understand it. It’s factually wrong, and it’s clearly petty. I know conservatives take delight in making liberals angry, but all this line does is make liberals roll their eyes or laugh. It’s pathetic.
    .
But hey, if it makes you all feel better, keep at it. We’ll keep laughing at you, though.

  • http://forgottenlord.livejournal.com forgottenlord

Exiled: I think you’ve got an interesting point. Everyone complains about the deteriorating atmosphere in Washington but there’s really just two ways to deal with it: either rise above it and (hopefully) demonstrate that you’re more responsible or sink to its level. Mind you, with the news media today, if you don’t sink to its level, you will never make the news while your opponent is all over it.

Andrea Mitchell? Does anyone know what persuaded Alan Greenspan to marry that militant, virulent, boilerplate, 85 year-old, dumb as rocks, leftist dingbat? Our President is a fraud who promised change. I have yet to see any. He has wasted a year with little to show for it.

Could Palin have been more obvious as she referred to her hand? She left herself wide open for the jab by Gibbs. Personally, I think the Tea Party movement might want to find someone else to be their standard bearer. I agree with most of their concerns, I am a conservative Democrat who is opposed to most of the President’s agenda, but I do not want Sarah Palin in office. Let her remain a commentator; she is entertaining but I can’t take her seriously as a contender for high office.

Actually he was only referring to Republicans. He considers it’s OK if He and other Democrats engage in petty politics. He feels that’s part of his mandate that goes with his 70% approval rating. Oh, sorry that was a year ago.

  • 3xfire3

    abdullah,
No person is deserving of the abusive comments that Democrats and Liberals make about Sarah Palin. I don’t mean to pick on you. It was just convenient to make a statement at this time. All of the abusive comments that Liberals and Democrats make about this lady only show has classless you are as a group. All people deserve a level of respect.
Liberals may think their abusive comments will help them in marginalizing this lady but ultimately you are going to turn off Middle America and destroy any chance you have to ever again become a majority party. Insults will only come back to you in spades.

  • abdullah69

Wow! Gosh! I am sorry. I didn’t realise you guys were so sensitive. Not with the amount of personal abuse you have heaped on the President and his family over the last year an’ all.

  • abdullah69

apr and 3xfire – so because I make a highly insulting remark about Sarah, I am assumed to be a Liberal or a Democrat, or worse, both.

You need to take the blinkers off and adjust your perception index. I am neither.

Until you realise there are millions in America who are sick and tired of both label politics and “mullahs on the make” like Sarah, then you have no right nor reason to restate endlessly these points on this blog.

Political battles are won by gaining the independent middle ground through inclusion, not confrontation. Frankly I consider myself an independent and I have to say you both make me sick.

  • sasquatch08

I honestly don’t see why this is even a topic brought up by the White House. Everyone misspeaks at times, everyone reads from notes when giving public addresses and neither of these things makes you stupid.
    .
This whole thing is overblown and quite frankly I’m with abdullah69 that people on both sides of this [non]issue make me sick.
    .
There is no reason to be calling someone a “jerkoff” or using other insults in a political discussion. Clearly, the “nuke aimed at the White House” was off colour and in poor taste, but that doesn’t give others the right to use such language to insult him. That debases you as much or more than it debases the person that made such an outrageous comment.
    .
The whole point of a blog like this isn’t to change anyone’s mind, it’s to inform yourself on the views of others and air your view for them to read and respond to. The use of these sort of statements degrades the value of political discourse in this country and is one of the reasons that many people who fundamentally agree with each other on many issues fail to find common ground when it’s right in front of them. It also turns off people who may otherwise agree with you from adopting your opinion because they think you’re a jerk for responding to asinine comments with statements of your own that are just as bad or worse.
    .
That’s just my two cents on the lack of civility in public discourse. Taunts, mockery and insults only degrade the value of any valid argument you may have. Should you choose to use them don’t be surprised when no one wants to listen to you in a serious manner.

  • apr2563

abdullah, I could care less what your political beliefs are. 3x and I agree on little. But, I think we can come to a nonpartisan agreement that the terminology you used to describe the mentally challenged is very offensive and hurtfully to those dealing with developmentally slow children. In othe words, you are a jerk.

  • 3xfire3

    sasquatch, Good Post,
Civility is very much lacking in political discussions today. People need to understand the difference between disagreeing with a person’s political views or policies and making personal attacks.
This is what I find so irritating about the attacks on Sarah Palin and the Tea baggers. Disagree with their views and positions. Don’t just attack them personally and try to demonize them for their political views.
People of both parties make personal attacks and that is wrong. But it seems much more prevalent on the part of Liberals. People have a right as Americans to disagree with liberal political positions without being attacked personally.
