Nate Silver has a fascinating analysis of the Daily Kos poll of Republicans–the bottom line, when looking at the cross-tabs, is that Republican attitudes are consistent throughout the country. In other words, they aren’t more extreme in the south, just more plentiful. This could have interesting consequences in other parts of the country, where Republicans are less plentiful, if candidates adhere to Republican beliefs.

A more important question, though, is this: What do independents, who decide most of these races, think? How would they respond to a similar set of questions and would they diverge by region?
