Joe Klein: Welcome to Let Them Filibuster

Welcome, Joe. We’ve been here for a while. But you can now join Ed Rendell and Doris Kearns Goodwin. And, oh, yeah, … me. It started all the way back …here.

The Phony War: Obama and Romney Are Debating Character, Not Policy

More than five months from Election Day, the back-and-forth about Mitt Romney’s record at Bain already feels played out. Unfortunately, there’s good reason to expect the campaign continues in this vein indefinitely. Neither Barack Obama nor Mitt Romney are terribly interested in dwelling on policy platforms. Romney’s plan to slash spending and keep taxes low on the wealthy isn’t especially popular, at least not at any level of detail beyond a blithe promise to shrink the deficit. Meanwhile, Obama’s signature first-term achievements, like health care, the stimulus and Wall Street reform, are all unpopular or tricky to sell. (The Dodd-Frank bill is the most popular of these, but hyping it means offending wealthy donors.) So what we’re getting instead is a superficial duel about character–and, worse, one that’s based on the largely false premise that the better man can better “manage” the economy back to health.

    You’re a genius, KT.
    .
    Seriously, you are.

Keep it up, Karen! We need the rest of the MSM to follow your lead on this!

    K-Tum: What sz said!

Question: Was this post preceded by a  or a :headdesk: ? Inquiring Swampers want to know…
    .
(:whispers: P.S. Don’t worry about you-know-who finding out your answer. He only reads his own posts anyway… ;-) )

P.P.S.: The link to Doris Kearns Goodwin is broken.

Karen, might be a chance for this with the jobs bill?
I would really enjoy it if so.

  • deconstructiva

Keep up the fight, KT! When the Real Filibuster happens, I hope you get props on the Senate floor. You should.
    .
And what carotexas said. The RF would work even better with Jobs, Finance Reform. etc. Some people are resisting HCR, esp. the Senate’s version, but let the R’s try to defend Big Banks or fight against the working class …on your terms. Sweet!

…KT, at Joe’s apology post, I mentioned the Clinton-Gingrich govt. shutdown as poker. You’d make a great poker player. You rock.

“I liked KT before I even _knew_ I liked KT…”

  • sacredh

    Sarcasm. Yep…this is sarcasm.

  • sacredh

I know you’re busy KT, but if you get a free minute and the mood strikes, a “1000 Words” like the stroke of genius about the lone protester would be a nice weekend treat.

Up to 8 inches of snow is supposed to hit here this evening.

Screw the fillabuster, I am on a kick to abolish the Senate altogether. I wrote Cronyn and Hutchinson, I know poor me, to help achieve that.
