This recess, a Democratic outside group is spending more than a $1 million on television commercials lambasting GOP lawmakers for voting against health care reform. The Foundation for Patients Rights, which is aligned with the Service Employees International Union, is planning ads in Delaware and Illinois against Reps. Mike Castle and Mark Kirk – both of whom are running for Senate – and in California against Mary Bono Mack. The spots are intended to remind these lawmakers that there are consequences for voting to support the insurance industry and to show Republicans in the Senate that there is political danger in voting against health care reform. Of course, the ads won’t be the only ones out there, but this recess doesn’t look to be as ferociously contentious as August and Democratic groups like this one and Moveon are working to counteract any Tea Party plans.
