DWTS Week 3: Tom DeLay Watch

“What’s a little pain, when you can party?”

After voting for Tom DeLay in the first round of Dancing with the Stars, I must admit I haven’t been keeping up. But fortunately, Christina Bellantoni brings us up to speed. It turns out he has been dancing with not one but TWO stress fractures.

Will the Hammer get booted tonight? Even if he is, we’ll always have these memories:

UPDATE: Sadly, it seems the dream has died. Swampland commenter Ivy_B informs us that E! is reporting that DeLay will drop out tonight. But he has broken barriers, and we can only hope others will follow in his fractured footsteps.

Tell us, Swampland commenters, which political figure would you like to see next on reality TV? And on which show?

The Phony War: Obama and Romney Are Debating Character, Not Policy

More than five months from Election Day, the back-and-forth about Mitt Romney’s record at Bain already feels played out. Unfortunately, there’s good reason to expect the campaign continues in this vein indefinitely. Neither Barack Obama nor Mitt Romney are terribly interested in dwelling on policy platforms. Romney’s plan to slash spending and keep taxes low on the wealthy isn’t especially popular, at least not at any level of detail beyond a blithe promise to shrink the deficit. Meanwhile, Obama’s signature first-term achievements, like health care, the stimulus and Wall Street reform, are all unpopular or tricky to sell. (The Dodd-Frank bill is the most popular of these, but hyping it means offending wealthy donors.) So what we’re getting instead is a superficial duel about character–and, worse, one that’s based on the largely false premise that the better man can better “manage” the economy back to health.

Audacity of Dope: Tales of a Toking Teenage Obama

We knew Barack Obama smoked weed in high school because he wrote about it in his books. What we didn’t know, until Buzzfeed posted these choice nuggets (I’m so sorry) from David Maraniss’s new book on the President’s younger years, were the giggle-worthy details of his “Choom Gang” lifestyle, which are right out of a buddy stoner flick. Obama and his friends drove around the lush Hawaii countryside, hot-boxing their VW bus and re-upping with a long-haired pizza-tossing dealer named Ray, whom Obama thanked in his yearbook “for all the good times.”

According to Huff Post, E! just said that DeLay will drop out tonight because of injuries.

Thank goodness I can bleach those pix from my brain.

I would like to see Michael Steele on the “Real World –there we can see him really keeping it real in the Hizzie :)
I think Obama poked fun at him at the “White House Correspondents dinner” using that same line. In the past, Steele always seemed to be throwing out some rap slang or other “down with the people” gibberish — so on “Real World” at least he can keep it real and finally “represent”. HAHA :)

    KT, imagine these –
    - Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann on America’s Next Top Model.
    - Olympia Snowe on The Bachlorette.
    - Wife Swap – the Bidens and the Palins. Yes, Todd will be RELIEVED to have Jill over, but Joe and Sarah, now there’s an item, you betcha. But the Bidens will be well-fed.
    - Michele Bachmann joins Girls Behaving Badly.
    - If ex-pols count, have “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” rebuild Ted Stevens’ home to remove the items paid for by suspicious money and replace it with something postmodern w/ bright colors.

The entire Village is a reality show, isn’t it?

  • gysgt213

KT-I think you should be paired up with Max.

  • deconstructiva

…which Max should KT hook up with? Max Weinberg?
Actually, if KT needs to be on reality TV, can she, Jay, Amy, AMC, and other DC reporters team up for a “Real Media Housewives of DC”?

  • gysgt213

There is a Max on the show. Duh.

Congressional Publican Wife Swap: John McCain and Lindsey Graham swap with Boehner and Cantor. I’ll leave it to them to figure out who exactly gets swapped.

  • jcapan

Yup, it’d be quite an interesting experiment to air-drop villagers like Broder or Matthews here (see paragraph 3) or here for a few months.

How about a reality show called “Dancing with the Czars” programmed opposite of Glenn Beck? Oh, the humanity. Cry me a river.

Next on “Survivor”: Donald Rumsfeld and Dick Cheney team up to eliminate everyone else on the island (including the crew) so they can use it as a base for their “Project”.

Delay sure has tiny feet. No wonder they’re stress fractured.

Hosted by Timothy Geithner, “Deal or No Deal” is an exhilarating hit game show where contestants play and deal for a top prize of $1 Trillion in a high-energy contest of nerves, instincts and raw intuition.

Each night, the game of odds and chance unfolds when a Goldman Sachs trader is given $1 Billion in TARP funds and 26 sealed briefcases with stated prices on the outside but full of varying valuations of mortgage-backed securities – ranging from a measly penny to $1 Trillion — on the inside.

The contestant begins with the first case and looks inside it. Without disclosing the contents, the contestant can choose to purchase the case with the TARP funds or trade the case to a mysterious entity known only as “the Bad Banker” prompting Geithner to ask the all-important question – Deal or No Deal?

The case is then opened to reveal whether “the Bad Banker” got ripped off or not.

As each case is opened, the likelihood of the contestant having valuable mortgage-backed securities in the case decreases or increases. Viewers will see if, truly, fortune favors the bold. The contestant knows that as long as the larger cash prizes haven’t been opened, the Bad Banker’s deals will only get higher.

Once per season, another mysterious entity known only as “the Bank Regulator” may require a contestant to “mark to market” a case, whereby the contestant must reveal the contents of the case to the Bad Banker.

If the case contains securities with a lower value than what is stated, the Bad Banker’s offer will suddenly evaporate.

However, in such an event, the Goldman Sachs trader may hit the “credit default swap” button, whereby the contestant may use an insurance policy on the case and the Bad Banker must pay the full value.

Tiny feet. I’m wondering if there is a link between his tiny feet and all that anger. Does he buy his shoes from the Keebler Elves?

I wonder — does KT have a life?

Does she get paid for this?
True – hers is an honest, redneck-grade waste of a good high school diploma.
