Pelosi’s Box

Forget the Senate, here’s a story from me about what’s going on in the House on health care. House leaders have pulled back from their once-aggressive schedule. “I have no timetable” for passage of a bill, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer told reporters yesterday. While eschewing the idea that they would wait for the Senate to act, they are stuck waiting at least until Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus shows his hand.

[more after the jump]

While the House is interested in the Senate’s public plan or lack thereof – as I write in the story that’s a whole other headache for them — they also want to see how Baucus offsets his $880 billion bill as they would have an easier time with Blue Dogs if they can show that any reforms would be fully paid for and could bring down spending in the long run. “I think there are a number of Members, including myself, who would like to know what the Senate is going to do,” Hoyer said with a half-groan, half-laugh. “You know, we’ve been talking about this for a long time now.”

A Tale of Two Economies: Mitt Romney vs. Republican Governors

The great recession has left the state of Ohio battered and bruised–and Mitt Romney would have you believe it’s Barack Obama’s fault. Writing in the Cleveland Plain-Dealer on May 4, Romney advised Ohioans that the President has delivered them “paltry results,” and that their state is in need of “a fundamental change in direction.”

It’s amazing how much effort Time and CNN have put into trying to kill the public option.

Have you been given marching orders to do so?

Love the title of this post.

Jay did the house members not receive anything positive on the public plan?

Did you only talk to Blue Dogs?

I think that what will be surprising is that the Democrats know the base is for the public plan not only the liberal democrats. They are not completely stupid and know they need that base to get elected. Blue dogs need that base to get elected. The independents are valued on both sides but the base is who gets out works and donates to get you elected.

Can we muzzle Hoyer? It seems like his sole job in the House these days is to directly contradict Pelosi after any kind of statement she makes.

Steny Hoyer has long been a corporate-owned DINO.
    .
In fact, if it weren’t for the fact that he has a misplaced D in his title, the likes of spoob, rusty, and textee would all think he’s the bee’s knees.
