We love to give the High Sheriffs grief around here. (Speaking of which — hey, what happened to the paragraph breaks in the comments section?) But they do create some wonderful things for all of us. The latest is a player and archive that compiles the work of our talented video team, Craig Duff, Vannessa Kaneshiro and Natasha Del Toro, and makes it much easier to find and enjoy.

Take a little time to explore our new video library here.

The Phony War: Obama and Romney Are Debating Character, Not Policy

More than five months from Election Day, the back-and-forth about Mitt Romney’s record at Bain already feels played out. Unfortunately, there’s good reason to expect the campaign continues in this vein indefinitely. Neither Barack Obama nor Mitt Romney are terribly interested in dwelling on policy platforms. Romney’s plan to slash spending and keep taxes low on the wealthy isn’t especially popular, at least not at any level of detail beyond a blithe promise to shrink the deficit. Meanwhile, Obama’s signature first-term achievements, like health care, the stimulus and Wall Street reform, are all unpopular or tricky to sell. (The Dodd-Frank bill is the most popular of these, but hyping it means offending wealthy donors.) So what we’re getting instead is a superficial duel about character–and, worse, one that’s based on the largely false premise that the better man can better “manage” the economy back to health.

Thanks, Karen. The site is easy to navigate. The Mexican prison video was disturbing, thus excellent. Maybe the link-to-video box here at right of page could be tweaked to find latest items *from here* easier (instead of only pagecasts or more videos tab)? But will YOU make more videos? Please don’t be shy. As for technical problems here, I sometimes get paragraph breaks to work, but last night I lost a reply in MS’s Jenny Sanford post. Okay, it was gently poking fun at MS + a link to a HL Mencken classic, but was not pottymouthed so I don’t know why it vanished. If he was offended, I apologize. He’s definitely been called worse by others and their posts were allowed.

Paragraph breaks, colored links, and some kind of designation of (New) for the “Reply” function. If we MUST have nested comments. And/or how about a “Reply” function to a reply, if they don’t know how to designate a (New) Reply.

This is, after all, the 21st Century.

OK, I’ve explored your spiffy new video features section. Now can we have in-depth interviews with the political terrorists in Congress and their special-interest masters, in which they’re confronted and forced to document and support any claimed factual basis for their sadistic fearmongering? Or maybe some chats with the quick-to-cave senate Dems who found it easier to turn their backs on everyone who showed up November 4?

No? Too late? Well, how about paragraph breaks in reply comments, at least? That would be change I can believe in.
