Latinos Caliente over Sotomayor

The first day started off okay. After that, things went downhill. And a couple of times (ahem, Ricky Ricardo?) crossed the line. That’s the impression I came away with after speaking to Latino groups about Sonia Sotomayor’s confirmation hearings. Here’s a webstory on the perils this presents to the G.O.P.

One worry I didn’t include: how her confirmation might complication the groups’ top priority, immigration reform. From Estuardo Rodriguez,

director of Hispanics for a Fair Judiciary:

My concern here is that we end up with a hostile environment for the discussion that we’re all waiting for which is comprehensive immigration reform, the DREAM act, etc. Once the hearings are over, I think you’re going to have a re-invigorated conserve base out there that will see this as a rallying cry: she’s a big concerned because she is biased against white people and we need to put a stop to this before it gets any worse.
