Obama Stumbles? Why the President’s Right to Talk About Bain

The meme of the day in journo-world is that President Obama has stumbled at the outset of the general election campaign. The evidence for this? Well, uh, there isn’t very much, really–except that a few Democrats have criticized his campaign’s attacks on Mitt Romney’s record at Bain Capital and that Obama’s fundraising is merely humongous, instead of obscenely humongous. The two phenomena are linked, of course: Obama isn’t getting the usual haul from Wall Street because he has outrageously–outrageously!–tried to regulate the bankers who did so much to crash the economy in 2008. The handful of Democrats squawking are people who either (a) get money from private equity firms or (b) have retired and joined Mondo Casino. But there is another side to this story:

You think counting sheep puts you to sleep, try counting stimulus dollars!

greenlyfe – agreed. Can imagine Summers’ contempt for anyone sleeping through his lectures. But I expect there are a lot of administration types not getting a lot of sleep.

This has happened to all of us, but what a photo. Or maybe I’m wrong. Maybe this has happened to ME and not to other people.

At the risk of commenting on a dead thread:
    .
I followed the links back to Monday and read the exchange between SZ, Dee in MD, and sgw (mainly).
    .
Everybody involved was having a bad day, and everybody shares in the responsibility for having a discussion devolve into a hissy-fit. These things happen. It’s not the end of the world.
    .
SZ will post here again if and when he sees fit to do so. Personally, I hope he does, but he’s a grown-up and can decide for himself.

  • Karen Tumulty

i can’t find the link to where sz jumped off. where is it? i can go and try to get him back.

  • Friar Tuck

    KT,
    .
It took me a while to back-track, and I didn’t think to save the link (my very bad). It was from April 20, and the thread included a link from rusty that’s so-o-o-o-o long that you’ll know it when you see it – it’s paragraphed by years. I believe the subject was torture. I didn’t note the headline, either.
    .
I’m ok as a Friar but I obviously suck as a detective.

Here is where stuartZ “jumped off”, shortly after being berated for defending my right to be on this blog.

I do hope you can convince stuartZ to come back, he is a good friend despite his leftist ideals. :)

If that’s what you think of my contributions, if that’s what you’re saying I’m doing, don’t worry about having to wade through my garbage posts any longer.

I’m sorry to see that Stuart has bowed out for the time being. I enjoyed reading his thoughtful posts.

The Rohypnol that Tim Geithner put in Larry Summers’ Coke appears to be working.

  • 53_3

    This planet sucks.

  • apollyon07

flacid: would that Rohypnol be as a joke or something more sinister? :/

Maybe I just thought of that since I’m a college student.

OT, but did anyone catch Chris Matthews ripping into Mac Thornberry tonight? He was on fire.
    .
I’m not always a big Matthews fan, but when he thinks someone is trying to pull one over on him, he’s like a dog gnawing a bone.

[...] Oh, Larry. Maybe he’s been working late? [...]

  • flacidcasual

apollyon07, I sincerely hope that I haven’t stumbled upon something more sinister in the WH. In this case I was just aiming at humor, I certainly don’t condone date rape as a way of following through on a man crush like Geithner’s.

  • gysgt213

One thing I think I learned in my otherwise drunk existence is I can’t take myself so seriously. Main reason is I’m just not serious. Hopefully Stu will return. I loved wading through his garbage posts. The higher the pile the better.
    .
Until then, this is just awesome.

This is so dead, but I have to throw in my two cents…not that it’s sought after. Stu was one of the main reasons I continued to read Swampland. He may be verbose at times but I appreciate the detail with which he answered some questions that I asked him directly.
    .
I also find it ridiclous in the extreme for some to criticize how long his posts are and to whom they are directed.
    .
It seems some here have no problem mounting that high horse of theirs and declaring themselves High Sheriff.
