Re: The AIG Bonuses: Shock Maybe, But No Surprise

Well, Michael, either Chuck Grassley missed the heads-up on AIG or he’s been sharpening his outrage since January:

“But I would suggest the first thing that would make me feel a little bit better toward [AIG executives] is if they’d follow the Japanese example and come before the American people and take that deep bow and say, I’m sorry, and then either do one of two things: resign or go commit suicide.”

After the Senator made those comments on a local Iowa radio show, his office hurried to issue a translation in the press-secretarese dialect. Says the AP, “Grassley spokesman Casey Mills said the senator is not calling for AIG executives to kill themselves, but said those who accept tax dollars and spend them on travel and bonuses do so irresponsibly.”

I’m waiting for the after-school movie warning kids that accepting tax dollars and spending them on travel is never the answer.
