While I heartily endorse all these common-sense tips, I couldn’t help remembering my own trip to Merida with the then-First Lady in 1999. Dressed as First Ladies must on these occasions–professional pantsuit with delicate pumps–Hillary Clinton could only watch enviously as some of the more intrepid members of her staff raced with a few reporters to the top of a pyramid. I heard her murmur: “Next time I come here, I’m wearing a tank top.” Funny how life works out. I guess her own spring break in the Yucatan is going to have to wait a few more years.
UPDATE: My colleague Massimo Calabresi tells me that Clinton is planning a trip to Mexico at the end of the month. Madame Secretary, life is short. Pack the tank top.
