Jindal’s Katrina Story

The reviews of Bobby Jindal’s rebuttle to Obama’s address to the joint session of Congress have not been exactly, um, raves. And,Politico’s Ben Smith scoops it just keeps getting worse: apparently the story that Jindal told “during Katrina” was, actually, a few days later and didn’t unfold the way he remembered it.

Update:
If you have questions for Jindal, he’s doing our 10 questions this week. Submit them here.

Update2:
Sorry for the cross post, Karen! DOH!

Romney Defends Bain Record, Hits Obama on Economy: ‘He Just Doesn’t Have a Clue’

Mitt Romney lashed President Obama’s economic stewardship in an interview with TIME’s Mark Halperin on Wednesday, deflecting attacks on his years as a private equity executive and laying out how he hopes to take control of the economy as soon as he’s sworn in, should he defeat Obama in November.

Mother of Mitt: How Lenore Romney’s Failed Campaign Shaped the Presumptive Republican Nominee

This week’s TIME cover story, “The Mother of the Mitt Campaign,” tells the tale of how Lenore Romney’s 1970 run for U.S. Senate may have made a bigger impression on the Republican presidential candidate than his years spent as the son of a governor. Mitt’s father lost his own presidential bid, but it was the lessons from his mother’s loss that are more instructive as Romney enters the campaign stretch.

I am not sure about the Ben Scoop. I heard about it first at the great Orange Satan.

We turn now to resident conservative commentator Hulagate:
    .
Hulagate, what is your response to the staggering ineptitude and dishonesty displayed by Gov. Bobby Jindal, said by many to be an upcoming leader of the Republican Party?

  • hellslittlestangel

Anyone who will lie about a trivial matter will lie about an important matter. Thus, Bobby has shown himself to be eminently qualified to lead the Republican party.

That’s B.S. Politico didn’t “scoop” this, it was on TPM which cited a DKos Diary. You media elites need to pay more attention to the blogsphere.

  • incandenzah

Yes, pay more attention to the blogosphere… or just read KT’s update on her earlier post, which gives credit where it’s due.

  • incandenzah

JNS — In fact, as you go about your job in the coming days, it might be good to keep asking yourself: “What would Karen do?” She gets it. You’ve got some work to do, IMHO.
    Constructively,

    JNS,
Read the comments. Someone posted a link to the TPM story yesterday. You and Karen are both reporting day old news.

    Here’s what liberals could say:
    .

Bobby Jindal lied, alright. He said that government always has to be the comi-tragic screw-up that the Bush people were. He said that we can never trust Washington to get anything right –ever. He said that, if the Obama Administration were in charge when Katrina happened, the same people would have been left to die. Saying that government by and for the people will always result in tragedy when the chips are down is a lie. Nazi Germany, coal mined by American kids, and a Great Depression would still be with us today if Bobby Jindal were telling the truth, but he’s lying–whether he knows it or not.

    .
, if they weren’t so eager to mimic Drudge themselves.

It may be true that Bobby Jindal seeks to resume his career as a butler, but most people thought he was giving a REBUTTAL.

  • darcygrant

Bobby Jindal is almost as fun to watch as Sarah Palin! What is the deal with that one-sided smile? I think it was supposed to be endearing. Are all of the “up-and-coming” Republicans trying out for newly released episodes of Leave It to Beaver?! If this is the cast of characters the Republicans plan to offer up for the 2012 election, Saturday Night Live is going to make a killing. I can’t wait to watch it all unfold.

This was not “scooped” at all by Ben Smith of Politico.
    -
It was first brought out on a DailyKos diary by user “xgz”, which was then picked up by TalkingPointsMemo.
    -
I’m in a giving mood, and assuming that you just were unaware of these facts. So instead of calling you names or anything…I’m merely going to ask that you update this post to give credit to the people who actually broke this story.
    -
I would think that if you were in the same position, you’d like to receive credit for a story you broke.

    spob:
    .
You lost your credibility on Katrina the moment GW slapped Brown on the back saying “Good Job, Brownie!”.
    .
For a real assessment of Katrina, the realities, and the fallacies, go see Sourcewatch on the subject, and also http://levees.org/.
    .
That is your legacy, spob. Now go crawl back into your basement and keep those candles lit under Timothy McVeighs’ poster!
