Romney Defends Bain Record, Hits Obama on Economy: ‘He Just Doesn’t Have a Clue’

Mitt Romney lashed President Obama’s economic stewardship in an interview with TIME’s Mark Halperin on Wednesday, deflecting attacks on his years as a private equity executive and laying out how he hopes to take control of the economy as soon as he’s sworn in, should he defeat Obama in November.

Mother of Mitt: How Lenore Romney’s Failed Campaign Shaped the Presumptive Republican Nominee

This week’s TIME cover story, “The Mother of the Mitt Campaign,” tells the tale of how Lenore Romney’s 1970 run for U.S. Senate may have made a bigger impression on the Republican presidential candidate than his years spent as the son of a governor. Mitt’s father lost his own presidential bid, but it was the lessons from his mother’s loss that are more instructive as Romney enters the campaign stretch.

Yeah, at least it beats watching Scherer smirk all over Tweety.

Aw, lay off. Scherer brings out my maternal instincts. (Ask my kids whether or not that’s a good thing.) I thought he held his own and contributed to the “discussion”. If I were on Tweety’s show I’d probably kick him hard in the shins the first time he interrupted me. Would not suggest that to Scherer, if he’d like more teevee exposure.

Of course we have a lot of “Time” to kill, Mikey. We read you don’t we. Fortunately, I’m also reading some Fenimore Cooper and my beloved Cormac at the same time. Kind of like beer: I might want to drink only Oregon microbrews, but sometimes I have to drink this Asahi swill.

Regarding the Obama administration’s $900 million aid package to help re-build Gaza: It’s true that there’s something simultaneously ironic, perverse and just about the aid package: Israel uses American weapons, massive amounts of American money and America’s diplomatic cover to devastate Gazan society, and then the U.S. bears the cost of repairing the damage wreaked by Israel and re-building Gaza. Nonetheless, that seems to be the least we can do….

    Cliff, great link. Thanks

jcapan – I haven’t met a Japanese beer that I’ve liked. Can’t say much for Chinese beer either.

Two degrees of separation between Scherer and 2 girls, 1 cup. Figures.

dfh – thank wvng, he’s the intrepid web crawler who throws all these links together.

jcapan: I’ve suggested a number of times that we simply “buy them out.” Give them houses, Internet, TVs, video games – and cheezy poofs! can’t forget those… – all the trimmings and trappings of modern western “culture,” and they’ll quickly become too fat and lazy to pick up rocks and fire grenade launchers. Just look at modern Americans.

Maybe some enterprising soul in the State Dept. could come up with a localized version of American Idol – we’ll start with a working title of “Gaza Idol” – and then they, too, will be sucked into hours of mindless hackery, sandwiched between seemingly interminable ads. Coke and McDonalds FTW!

Cliff–They do exist, but it’s hard enough to find them here, let alone the tripe that gets shipped across the pond. Think Corona, or our own Bud. How many wanker Brits do I encounter who bemoan US beer when all they’ve ever consumed is Anheuser Mush. A fair number of microbrews here but even greater obstacles to getting product to mkt. Strangely, when I lived in a town a fraction of the size of my current megalopolis, they had a kick-arse brewery. Now I have to trek all over town. And if you look you can find a few decent imports: Bass, Anchor Steam…

Yes, I’ve always sympathized with the Taleban et al–who would want our LCD culture forced upon them!? But it sure does the job of pacifying the mobs–8 years of Bush-Cheney and the Bastile held. Today’s culture in much of the developed world puts us in pods–we have the illusions of community but I say we’re being anesthetized.

Speaking of beer, for any Swamplanders in the DC area on Friday (5-6:30 ish) I can usually be found at the west end of the bar at Franklins in Hyattsville, sitting with a guy with a long gray pony tail. Very good beer.
