Worst Damage Control Ever

Roland Burris spins his tale a little further, admitting Monday for the first time that he tried to raise money for Gov. Rod Blagojevich after discussing a potential Senate appointment with his brother. Drip. Drip. Drip.

Obama’s Persuasive Powers on Gay Marriage Manifest in Maryland

When President Obama endorsed gay marriage earlier this month, the media grappled with two basic political questions: Was his personal “evolution” a case of a politician transparently following a national trend toward accepting same-sex unions (accelerated, perhaps, by his chatty No. 2), and would it hurt his re-election chances by alienating socially conservative voters like black churchgoers? Sure, there was a recognition that it marked a gratifying moment for gay-marriage advocates — as well as some grumbling about the President’s view that it remains a state issue, not a federal one. But by and large, there were few suggestions that one man, even the President, would shift public opinion on the issue or affect public policy. Based on a new Public Policy Polling survey out of Maryland, it seems this possibility was underestimated.

    Cherokee Zero

Apparently, Massachusetts voters don’t mind that Elizabeth Warren foolishly identified herself as a Native American early in her academic career–it was, apparently, a case of family pride and wishful thinking about a Cherokee ancestor. That’s good. Warren may be the best public figure when it comes to explaining the depredations of the financial industry and [...]

Dumb as a rock. He’s toast. If he’s smart he resigns immediately and then Illinois can appoint someone with at least minimal intelligence.

I feel dirty just reading that article. And, in MS’s defense, I think he’s doing his job, here, and reporting on it. Of course, it would be nice if he’d do the same thing when it’s the Repugs…

I just keep picturing Roland Burris’ mausoleum. This story has a life of its own. Any idea when Fitzgerald’s investigation is going to be public? I am beginning to get rather annoyed at him for sprinkling just enough information to cause trouble, then disappearing back into the shadows.

There ought to be bipartisan consensus that this guy has moved from doddering old fool to scheming crook. Good riddance.

Cin I was actually thinking about Cornyn and Coleman.

joyomama I share your annoyance. Smells too much like the Spitzer situation. I certainly hope Fitzgerald has more than we have heard.

Some stories write themselves. One can hardly blame MS for an “I told you so” or two.

  • Friar Tuck

joyomama, the whole mausoleum thing kind of raised my eyebrows as well. Frankly, getting chosen by Blagoyevich in itself is not a real positive sign for one’s career.

The question isn’t whether this is news, surely it is. The question is if its some kind of earth shattering news, surely it isn’t. Show of hands, is anybody shocked or surprised or dissappointed in Roland Burris because of this? Im not. Nothing about his handling of this whole situation lent any credibility to the notion that he was going to be some great public servant for the people of Illinois. I really want to see a quote from someone somewhere in this country who is actually crushed over all this and that has lost their faith in poltiicians because of Roland Burris. I don’t think that kind of idiot exists many places in this country anymore. At least not many that vote Democrat.

PD-I think an “I told you so” fits for someone like Josh Marshall and the USAG story when it is dismissed by so many. I know I don’t need to name names. Okay one Jay Carney.

Why is anyone surprised that someone who could so crassly refer to his political opponents as “unqualified white boys” has problems telling the truth? But hey, racism is ok if you’re a Democrat.

  • cincinnatus est exterminata!

Well, I guess if we ask ourselves the following about the story in question, we can begin to understand why it is/isn’t being covered.
    .
Does the story further the agenda of, or protect the interests of American corporations, including but not limited to the corporations that own the media?
    .
Blago/Burris. Yes, it provides hours of spittle flying, self righteous anger from the punditry, garners ratings, fills time and serves as a distraction.
    .
America 3 hours from collapse. No. The story threatens widely held perceptions about laissez-faire economics.
    .
IndyMac colluded w/ SEC to defraud investors and customers. No. This story threatens widely held perceptions about laissez-faire economics.
    .
Spob, I’m not surprised at all, then again, neither am I surprised when I meet a white southern/heartland American who’s smart enough to tie their own shoes.

Why the heck does Vitter keep getting a pass?

    He’s a disgusting liar and a hypocrit.

Where is the daily Swampland post about him? Was there ever one?

Or what about Coleman? Another corrupt liar.

How about a drip drip drip on the investigations against Coleman?
