Obama to Submit His Budget to Congress on Monday

President Barack Obama is pressing for investments in infrastructure while relying on familiar tax increases on the wealthy and corporations to claim progress on the federal deficit in his upcoming budget.

With Saturday Victories, Romney Retakes Control of the GOP Narrative

Mitt Romney, the perpetually questioned front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination, had a rough week. Three embarrassing losses to Rick Santorum in Tuesday’s non-binding contests led to questions about Romney’s conservative bona fides just in time for GOP activists, gathering at their annual Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, to collectively grumble about it. But in two narrow, largely symbolic victories on Saturday, Romney reclaimed the headlines. Never mind the details. He was winning again.

Alas indeed. An auction would be a nice way to actually recover more than they paid for the stuff and make that ‘giving to charity’ idea all the more fruitful.

Or a blackberry that once helped to elect John McCain president?

They’re selling stuff from an alternate universe? Kewl. Can I get a history book from the one where Sandy Day and Bill Rhenquist followed the Constitution and Al Gore was president? I wanna compare some of the timelines, events, etc.

I’m holding out for Sarah’s red leather “Thriller” jacket.

  • palininatowel

How about some of Cindy’s outfits? She never wore the same outfit twice. I’ll offer a coupla’ hundred bucks for the red leather pants!

or some great BBQ sauce that isn’t so great that it rises to the level of elite, hoidy toidy Georgetown cocktail party BBQ sauces?
    .
How about a Time reporter that asked a tough question of the Bush Administration some time over the last 8 years? Oh, they’ve all been bought already(see BBQ sauce).

Worth picking over carefully — yard sales are great for treasure-hunting. I mean, you never know — you may buy an old briefcase and find John McCain’s long-lost honor hidden in one of the pockets.

Given the way the Troo Beleevers feel about her, I wouldn’t be surprised if that hypothetical auction raised a million-plus. I’m not kidding. Besides the sexual obsessions of Rich Lowry/Bill Kristol types, a lot of them would think they’re buying memorabilia of the next and first female president.

Any like-new hardly-ever read bibles available?

  • Cliff

This is actually a great idea. Pick something out, send it to a Republican loved one, and include the note, “Hey, I was looking through all this stuff that the McCain campaign doesn’t need anymore because it LOST. Do you remember that, when they LOST? Good times, good times.”

  • palininatowel

Oh, and I want Palin’s towel.

  • Jay Newton-Small

cincinnatus est exterminata, A TIME White house correspondent asked Bush one of the hardest questions I ever heard asked of him. And, subsequently, was never called upon again. Scroll down to Dickerson:

Palininatowel: I was going to post that I like you without a towel…then I was going to post you don’t really need a towel, you’re fine without one…then I decide to put down the shovel I was digging a really deep hole with.
    .
You have a great wit. Wit or witout a towel

JNS, may I ask which Dickerson question you’re referring to? I don’t think that the “biggest mistake” Q was all that hard– I mean, I’ve been asked that at interviews for lesser positions than president…

  • cincinnatus est exterminata!

“In the last campaign, you were asked a question about the biggest mistake you’d made in your life, and you used to like to joke that it was trading Sammy Sosa. You’ve looked back before 9/11 for what mistakes might have been made. After 9/11, what would your biggest mistake be, would you say, and what lessons have you learned from it?”‘
    .
All due respect…if this is the best you could come up with, you’ve kinda proven my point.

  • queencersei

I wonder how much McCain sold his honor for? $10.99 or do we suppose he held out for the big bucks?

  • Andy from MA

queencersei: I’d ask Cindy McCain. What do you think her net worth is?

  • Jay Newton-Small

Guys — that answer of Bush’s was so ridiculous it was used in the W movie trailers.

  • 53_3

    Do these mementos include:
    .
An cd of “Magic Negro” autographed by Rush Limbaugh, himself?
    .
    How about an Obama monkey?
    .
What about the weapons cache those two skinheads had?
    .
Does it include Joe the Non-Plumber’s framed and autographed tax returns?
    .
How about a bloodsoaked Thanksgiving dinner invitation signed by Sarah Palin herself – in blood?
    .
Now, these are my favorite things…

  • cincinnatus est exterminata!

JNS, just because he handled it badly doesn’t mean it was a good question. Here’s a test: can you tell us in your words why we ended up in Iraq? Have you guys in the MSM worked that out yet?

  • jarais

I will buy whatever McCain was smoking when he picked Palin. Good stuff.

  • Cliff

    Re: JNS’s link –
This continues John Dickerson’s long streak of utterly failing to validate himself as a reporter.
    .
I swear I have yet to read a worthwhile sentence from Dickerson. It’s like he carefully boils all the information and entertainment out of his articles before they get published.

  • http://elvisberg.wordpress.com Elvis Elvisberg

As to Cincinnatus’s point, why doesn’t TIME hire Aimee Teegarden? She really knows how to ask those tough questions!
