Re: So Long

Ana: We all owe you a lot. Thanks so much for holding our hands as we all jumped into this big experiment and reassuring us (again and again) that the water would be fine, even in a swamp. We all look forward to seeing what your next chapter will be. As for me, I’ll be following you on Twitter.

The Phony War: Obama and Romney Are Debating Character, Not Policy

More than five months from Election Day, the back-and-forth about Mitt Romney’s record at Bain already feels played out. Unfortunately, there’s good reason to expect the campaign continues in this vein indefinitely. Neither Barack Obama nor Mitt Romney are terribly interested in dwelling on policy platforms. Romney’s plan to slash spending and keep taxes low on the wealthy isn’t especially popular, at least not at any level of detail beyond a blithe promise to shrink the deficit. Meanwhile, Obama’s signature first-term achievements, like health care, the stimulus and Wall Street reform, are all unpopular or tricky to sell. (The Dodd-Frank bill is the most popular of these, but hyping it means offending wealthy donors.) So what we’re getting instead is a superficial duel about character–and, worse, one that’s based on the largely false premise that the better man can better “manage” the economy back to health.

    What KT said.

KT: I’ve missed your Swampcasts with Ana for some time now. Any chance of new duets with the Jays, Joe or Michael?

  • kathy

KT – yes, it’s true. You do hold the fort here, but I miss the interaction there was between you and Ana, with us. Here’s hoping you find a way to bring someone else into that. More live blogging with colleagues, maybe.

  • trifecta

Yes, I want drunk liveblogging of transportation subcommittee meetings.

  • kathy

KT – nice job on WWIR. I think you’re getting better at it, actually.

    KT here–

Kathy: Thanks. I’m trying to follow sgwhite’s advice, and not say “you know” so much.

Also, Trifecta, I think that being drunk is the only way to get through most subcommittee meetings. I’ve actually proposed, Kathy, that we get our liveblog team together for other events, like the Super Bowl and the Academy Awards.

  • kathy

KT – we’d better have a contest for other events to liveblog.
