Romney Defends Bain Record, Hits Obama on Economy: ‘He Just Doesn’t Have a Clue’

Mitt Romney lashed President Obama’s economic stewardship in an interview with TIME’s Mark Halperin on Wednesday, deflecting attacks on his years as a private equity executive and laying out how he hopes to take control of the economy as soon as he’s sworn in, should he defeat Obama in November.

Mother of Mitt: How Lenore Romney’s Failed Campaign Shaped the Presumptive Republican Nominee

This week’s TIME cover story, “The Mother of the Mitt Campaign,” tells the tale of how Lenore Romney’s 1970 run for U.S. Senate may have made a bigger impression on the Republican presidential candidate than his years spent as the son of a governor. Mitt’s father lost his own presidential bid, but it was the lessons from his mother’s loss that are more instructive as Romney enters the campaign stretch.

    That’s ageism.
    .
That could be me! And I’m 25 years her junior!

  • michaelscherer

I don’t think she is the target. The target is that awful ad campaign about the digital conversion.

  • palininatowel

    michael,
    .
    I was kidding.

So while we have fun, perhaps a moment out to remember why we’re going through this and WHO stands to profit from all this newly freed analog spectrum might be in order.

Aren’t you supposed to be having a week off, as opposed to the usual off week, Scherer?

By the way: a reporter might look into the effect that this policy is likely to have on those without a lot of resources. The problem isn’t simply the ad campaign. Maybe part of the new jobs program could be sending people door-to-door hooking up people’s TVs. (Surely scam artists will take advantage of the opportunity.)

Good gawd people, sometimes when I read this blog I feel like the commenters just want an echo chamber where their nicely packaged world views will be reinforced time and time again, and they will never have to be “subjected” to the horrors of a differing perspective. While I most likely hold most of the political/ideological views of many of the commenters here, I do value other people’s opinion and writing.
Give it a break and if you want to accomplish something ranting and raving here isn’t the best way to do it. Thankfully this thread hasn’t degenerated into the ad hominem attacks commonly seen on scherer’s, jns’ or carney’s posts. Please don’t take that as encouragement.
I come to this blog for the informed opinions on politics that come out of the unique (and usually respectful) interactions between journalists and commenters seen here. It’s a shame when that’s spoiled.
So, just like you demand that all the journalists’ posts be substantive, why not keep the comments the same?
Thanks for posting michael and keep up the good work.

Arrggh… I can understand why everyone complains about not having preview. Apologies for grammatical errors.

Man, this had me laughing like crazy. I am that lady, despite being much younger. I can’t stand all the connections. And yes, this is an ad making fun of the cable/TV commercials, not the lady, it seems to me.

Only a print journalist would find this funny. I hope someone steals the ribbon from your typewriter while you’re on vacation.

  • Cliff

I thought it was funny. But even better was the Li’l O’Reilly skit in the links that show up after the video.
