Speaking of Rahm…

I have a piece up about Rahm Emanuel, Obama’s choice for White House chief of staff.

Rick Santorum Wants to Fight ‘The Dangers Of Contraception’

Candidates often say things when polling in the single digits that come back to haunt them when they start leading the polls. Last October, Rick Santorum gave an interview with an Evangelical blog called Caffeinated Thoughts, in which he said contraception is “not okay,” and that this would be a public policy issue he would tackle as President. In particular, he said he would “get rid of any idea that you have to have abortion coverage or contraceptive coverage” as a government policy. Start watching the following video at 17:55.

Occupy the Regulatory Open Comment Period!

There’s nothing “wrong” with protests built around placard-hoisting and park-squatting, but Occupy the SEC is definitely doing something right with its radically different tack. The OWS-offshoot has submitted a 325-page letter to federal financial regulatory agencies on the Volcker Rule, a controversial measure designed to prohibit banks from proprietary trading, or making investments with their own dollars rather than their customers’, that was passed as part of the Dodd-Frank financial reform law.

For whatever reason, the spam filter won’t let me post the link I want but at the base of the page that Michael linked to:

is a link to a Chicago reader article that paints a very nice detailed picture of who Rahm Emanuel is. I recommend it highly. It also provides a nice sharp contrast in the style of reporting you get from the local Chicago free weekly vs Time Magazine. (Not that I don’t like Jay’s article as well!)

This is the Obama I know and love. My guy picks people according to their talent to fulfill the needs he perceives. Folks who believe that this is a young guy that Democratic chairman are going to lead by the hand are in for a rude awakening. I fear that because Obama speaks softly that they won’t even notice when he swings that big stick until it slaps them upside the head.

That’s a nice piece you wrote on Emanuel, Jay. I think Rahm’s a great choice for chief of staff, for exactly the reasons you mention.

Great pick, great article. One Harry Reid in a leadership position is enough or even one too many. Republicans criticize Reid and Pelosi for not getting things done. Perhaps that criticism is justified. Obama won’t let that happen in the executive branch.

I can’t wait for the first story about which GOP hack or Blue Dog dissenter gets the horse head in his/her bed.
