McCain on SNL

He was hilarious. (You can see it here.)

Obama just told the crowd in front of the State House in Columbus that he got a chance to catch his opponent on YouTube and also thought it was funny. He added that being able to laugh at ourselves is “part of what our politics should be about.”

Birth Control Debate: Why Catholic Bishops Have Lost Their Grip on U.S. Politics—and Their Flock

The clash with the White House over birth control is a reminder of just how much influence the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has lost in the 10 years since the child sex abuse crisis erupted in America.

McCain and BHO both did the self mocking humor very well at the Al Smith dinner.
It was an interesting stratagy for McCain to run “mean and tough”

Personally I think the “double maverick” was not the way for McCain to go. But at least he was honest about it lol.

    KT,

What did you think about Tina Fey doing the Palin gone Rogue bit? It was VERY funny but I don’t think it helped McCain much if at all.

I thought it was funny, but it also seemed like he didn’t understand they were mocking him.

Obama’s worst moment in his campaign was on SNL, and I hope that in 2012 he tries to correct that. I’m a little disappointed that he didn’t make an appearance this season. I actually think it would have helped him, although he doesn’t need much help at this point. He could have been hilarious in the variety show sketch.

I think Obama made a calculated decision to only do things that have the potential to help him get elected and I admire that about him. That shows a shrewedness that he will need in order to get his agenda through congress. No matter how funny you come of on SNL there is always the very real possibility that you will come off as unserious during serious times. Besides the fact that you don’t get to control the agenda nor the dialogue. I thought Obama’s blitz the last few days of the week, the infomercial and Jon Stewart on Wednesday, the Brian Williams and Rachel Maddow interviews on thursday and Wolf Blitzer on Friday was more than enough to dominate the news cycle and lock down some late breaking votes. His only distractions has been Biden and Richardson going off script for some odd reason earlier in the week on taxes. I almost want somebody to see if they are betting on intrade trying to make the numbers closer or something. He!! I can repeat the tax plan in my sleep now after having heard Obama say it 50 mill times so how do these guys flub it in the campaign’s final days. We need a 9-11 commission to figure this out after tuesday!

He wasn’t funny, but I enjoyed watching him. McCain’s grin was the grin of a man eating a substance most of us prefer to excrete. It’s nice to see the man losing, gracefully or no, and if he’ll dry up and blow away on 11/4, I’ll forgive him for being such a creepy old rotter.
That’s reconciliation we can believe in, my friends.

I thought he was funny, and funnier than Obama at the Al Smith dinner.
    .
McCain’s still talking about Joe the Plumber. What sort of idiocy is this.
    .
Lying vigorously about Barack’s tax plans. very. tired.

I think QVC would have been the proper forum for everything McCain has been selling this cycle. He himself was not funny. The whole thing was ‘sad grampa’ with an implicit threat of ‘double maverick.’

McCain realizes that whether he wins or loses on Tuesday, he needs to get back in the good graces of the press. Luckily for him, all it will take is an SNL skit and a couple of talk show appearances.

@jr77006: Re: Self-deprecating humor: Check out the SNL appearance McCain made earlier this season in which he made the case that America should elect someone who is *old*! Gotta hand it to him, McCain can take a bullet like the best of them! (Prolly that POW experience!)

I enjoyed seeing McCain (even Cindy) on SNL, but the opening piece wasn’t especially well-written. The Weekend Update segment was a little better. I think a lot of the SNL types like McCain, and wrote this sketch as an olive branch for (deservedly) savaging Palin, or more accurately, scooping up the comedy gold that Palin herself dropped in their laps.

McCain probably wouldn’t have done those particular jokes if he thought he had a realistic chance of winning, so we might think of this as his Dole moment, when McCain was able to let go of his dream.

Why do you genius-types pretend the Anthrax attacks didn’t happen after 9/11? We were attacked again. And how about that suicide bomber that attacked Davenport, IA on 9/11/06? He didn’t happen either did he?

  • theoriginaljames

McCain was funny. Unfortunately, we would have laughed with him, not at him, before he joined the Bushies and turned himself into a joke. Sarah never had that option. She has always been and will always be a joke. Sarah, go introduce youself to Dan Quale, compare notes.
