Re: Palin-The Plumber in 2012! Maybe.

Ana,

In your below post you wrote:

Any VP candidate who isn’t thinking about running for president one day is probably less trustworthy than one who is — in part because they are probably thinking even darker thoughts. Two words, people: DICK CHENEY.

Am curious — would you therefore call Joe Biden “less trustworthy”? Every indication from Obama camp when he was hired was that Biden (who is 65 and in eight-years time would be 73, even older than McCain is now) has no further presidential ambitions — as David Wilhelm told me:

“For Joe, that was his last race, and if it worked out, great — if not, he still had this great future as chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee,” says David Wilhelm, a close adviser to Biden who ran the Delaware Senator’s Iowa campaign in 1988 and who endorsed Obama early in the campaign. “He was really at peace throughout the whole process.”

The Phony War: Obama and Romney Are Debating Character, Not Policy

More than five months from Election Day, the back-and-forth about Mitt Romney’s record at Bain already feels played out. Unfortunately, there’s good reason to expect the campaign continues in this vein indefinitely. Neither Barack Obama nor Mitt Romney are terribly interested in dwelling on policy platforms. Romney’s plan to slash spending and keep taxes low on the wealthy isn’t especially popular, at least not at any level of detail beyond a blithe promise to shrink the deficit. Meanwhile, Obama’s signature first-term achievements, like health care, the stimulus and Wall Street reform, are all unpopular or tricky to sell. (The Dodd-Frank bill is the most popular of these, but hyping it means offending wealthy donors.) So what we’re getting instead is a superficial duel about character–and, worse, one that’s based on the largely false premise that the better man can better “manage” the economy back to health.

    JNS,
    .
You know you can’t ask AMC questions anymore. She throws up a post here and then goes to other sites to blog. I don’t think she has answered/recognized a commenter’s question in over a week. Im not mad at her because she has to hustle now in light of Radar folding but it does kinda suk that there isnt any interaction anymore

  • wvng

    Excellent catch, JNS.

  • Dee in Columbia MD

JNS — Well that’s one way (and a really polite way) to inform AMC that she has written drivel. Of course I tell her that constantly but clearly the direct approach hasn’t done much good.

Ana can’t come to the phone right now – she’s conferring with Hitchens over the worsening situation in Glenfiddich.

  • http://pourmecoffee.blogspot.com pourmecoffee

Ana’s out of order? She’s out of order?? THIS WHOLE BLOG’S OUT OF ORDER!!!

    Love that.

  • FlownOver

That was a test, and I wasn’t sent to “Time out!” Woo-hoo!

  • newfloridian

Breaking…. John McCain can’t get a break. He was stood up today in Defiance Ohio by Joe the Plumber. Called out for him and he did not show up on stage. The McCain campaign then said he would join them later in the day. According to Joe the Plumber he wasn’t contacted about showing up in Defiance. He also said he could not attend any McCain rallies today because he is due in Philadelphia. Egg on the face of the whole McCain campaign. Suggests maybe Joe the Plumber is having second thoughts? Sweet!!!!!

  • FlownOver

    Flo –

Not second thoughts – a better offer.

  • newfloridian

Hey guys lay off Ana, she’s trying to land a columnist job somewhere. It’s either that or the Bunny Ranch. Not a great job option.

  • http://www.inworldstudios.com jayackroyd

    I will provide exegesis.
    .
What AMC meant by “trustworthy” is “subject to influence by voters.” A check on a 2nd term lame-duck president going batsh!t crazy is a vice president who will see his electoral prospects diminished by such insaniry. We saw a version of that when Gore tried to distance himself from Clinton’s personal behavior. It’s quite possible that a VP Romney or Hagel would have created obstacles for some of Bush/Cheney’s more destructive policy decisions.

  • Andy from MA

JNS – AMC didn’t even feel the surgical scalpel make the incision.
    .
Perhaps she’s commiserating with Salter. I think she has checked out of Swampland and is, in the tradition of that great stateswoman from Alaska, focusing on bigger and better things for AMC.
    .
Watch out everyone, the ladder is being pulled up behind her as she ascends.

  • Andy from MA

jayackroyd doing a great impression of AMC, JC and MS earlier in the campaign.

  • http://www.inworldstudios.com jayackroyd

Palin musta got to Joe. Look out Todd!!

  • FlownOver

I’d suggest we start an email campaign to help get Ana a new gig, maybe replacing Joey the Scar on MSNBC – but I guess that particular position would involve working morning hours, so maybe not.

  • http://pourmecoffee.blogspot.com pourmecoffee

Now is when they need Joe. The campaign is circling the bowl.

  • sgwhiteinfla

    jay,
    .
Yesterday AMC had a post up about the “attraction of JTP”. So it might be AMC running off with JTP not Sarah Palin. CAT FIGHT! rowr

  • Andy from MA

FO — Under or Unemployment for Ms. Cox might be a humbling experience and a life experience lesson for her.

    FlownOver Says:
” .. help get Ana a new gig, maybe replacing Joey the Scar on MSNBC .. “
Do they have a bigger wine closets with no locks over there at MSNBC?
    AMC wants to know ..

JNS, please rephrase your question in the form of LOLcats.

  • queencersei

So does Joe the Plumber actually have a job? Outside of campaigning for McCain/Palin that is. He should at least be tapped to be Postmaster General for all his hard work on the campaign.

  • dindc

That’s ridiculous. The difference is that Biden DID run for president. Twice. He realizes he can’t win, so he’s not going to do it again. That hardly means he’s thinking “darker thoughts.”

  • motherfnteresa

Ha Ha Ha – somebodies out of a job. Stay classy Swampland.

  • heckslittlestangel

“According to Joe the Plumber he wasn’t contacted about showing up in Defiance. He also said he could not attend any McCain rallies today…”

Wow, THREE mavericks, and in the style of MC Escher, each more trivial and mean-spirited than the other.

  • bruceduncan

73 is obviously WAY too old for a first time President and nobody ever hides their ambition to run later. You sure got Anna … or not.

  • rose83

Yes, if Biden wanted to run for President he would probably be more eager for Obama to pursue policies voters like. In that sense, I suppose you could argue he would be a less “trustworthy” VP than Sebelius or Kaine.

Although not having millions of dollars worth of stock options in Halliburton also makes a VP more trustworthy.

  • Slowhand Ted

I’m sure that Ana’s a fine woman, but I get the feeling that being assigned to the Swamp is one of life’s minor indignities to her. The impression I have is of someone who loves the smell of the TV studio, the roar of the host and the lure of any cocktail party within striking distance.
    .
It’s a shame. Blogs are a way for journalists to set out opinions that are likely not to be an easy fit in an employer’s printed edition, that might not otherwise find an audience. The only censorship is self-censorship with an eye on future career prospects (*coughschnorercough*) or a rather dismissive attitude to them as a dreadful chore (*coughamccough*).
    .
God, I’m getting cynical in my old age.
    .

  • Andy from MA

Putting Cox first Ted…you are speaking the truth.

  • theoriginaljames

Biden whatever. Palin is another matter. She will run before 2012, and last about 1 month.

  • johnrawls

Thanks, JNS, for pointing that out.

I’m sorry but I think Ana writes very poorly. In the rare instances that I manage to get through her posts, they are usually devoid of any substance.

It’s a pity because this blog normally has a very high standard with extremely qualified writers.
