Obama’s Oahu

Here’s a little postcard on Obama’s Oahu. It came out before I saw his schedule this ayem where he has a “Welcome to Hawaii” event tomorrow with Michelle at Keehi Beach Park — that will probably replace the Magic Island rally mentioned in the Advertiser that I cite.

Following Obama on his way out to Hawaii are GOP press releases this morning citing the high cost of gas in the islands:

Chevron (Kuhio Highway, Princeville, Kaua’I, Hawaii): This gas station sells a gallon of regular unleaded at $4.78 a gallon. Also available: air for your tires, tire gauges to substitute for a comprehensive energy plan, including domestic exploration. Recent reports show Chevron contributing more to Senator Obama than Senator McCain.
Punahou School (1601 Punahou Street, Honolulu, Hawaii): Obama attended Punahou School, a coeducational college preparatory day school, from 1971 to 1979. The school campus covers 76 acres at the edge of the Manoa Valley.

As to the reports, I think it’s safe to say that Obama has received more contributions from just about everybody, including those who work for oil and gas companies. And on the gas prices, they fail to mention that Hawaii, like Alaska, always has the highest gas prices in the nation because of the cost it takes to ship the gas thousands of miles out to the islands.

Rick Santorum Wants to Fight ‘The Dangers Of Contraception’

Candidates often say things when polling in the single digits that come back to haunt them when they start leading the polls. Last October, Rick Santorum gave an interview with an Evangelical blog called Caffeinated Thoughts, in which he said contraception is “not okay,” and that this would be a public policy issue he would tackle as President. In particular, he said he would “get rid of any idea that you have to have abortion coverage or contraceptive coverage” as a government policy. Start watching the following video at 17:55.

Occupy the Regulatory Open Comment Period!

There’s nothing “wrong” with protests built around placard-hoisting and park-squatting, but Occupy the SEC is definitely doing something right with its radically different tack. The OWS-offshoot has submitted a 325-page letter to federal financial regulatory agencies on the Volcker Rule, a controversial measure designed to prohibit banks from proprietary trading, or making investments with their own dollars rather than their customers’, that was passed as part of the Dodd-Frank financial reform law.
