Counterpunch

It’s hard to believe that boxing fan John McCain couldn’t see this left cross coming after he threw this stiff jab. Actually, it’s amazing that the Obama campaign could get the response up so quickly. You’ve got to wonder, though, why the Obama campaign isn’t using the embarrassing Bush-McCain hug photo–saving it for the fall?

Bio-Free McCain?

In his Wall Street Journal column today offering free (though surely not unsolicited) advice to John McCain, Karl Rove writes that the Republican nominee needs to get more intimate with voters. Maybe he does. But I had to laugh when I read this assertion by Rove: Mr. McCain is the most private person to run [...]

Point Taken

The McCain campaign is being ridiculed lately for enticing supporters to post (positive) comments about McCain on blogs to earn points which are then redeemed for exciting John McCain merchandise. Yeah, rewarding supporters with points for being helpful to the campaign is really desperate. And giving people pre-written talking points to disseminate? Surely a sign [...]

Random: Declarative Statement Edition

• I am a bad person for enjoying this exchange. • I bet you think this song is about you. • John Dickerson introduces the candidates to lifehacking. • Women are more scared of dirty old men than tall black guys. • The “timetables” section is especially amusing. • Could I have lived my life [...]

Obama’s Negative Ads

If you’re worried about Obama hitting back hard enough, look underneath the table. These two ads were put up in Pennsylvania and Ohio (I think.), minus the usual press release announcement. “Original” is mentioned in the WaPo article, though not the relatively quiet way it was released. Here’s a fact-check on “Pocket,” which ratchets down [...]

Is Obama Bush-Bama? Just More of the Same?

John McCain says Barack Obama has it all wrong. It was Obama, after all, who sided with George W. Bush and Dick Cheney on the 2005 Energy Bill. McCain voted against the bill. Here’s McCain today in Ohio: I spoke up against the administration and Congress and Sen. Obama when they gave us an energy [...]

It’s Not Hsu, It’s Me

My post yesterday about McCain’s hookah-happy donors was based on a WP article that’s now been corrected: Apparently, the couple that owns the Twilight Hookah Lounge donated to Clinton and Giuliani, but not McCain. So it all makes perfect sense now. More seriously, the NYT has dug further into the story and found some more [...]

So Does This Mean He’s Not the Anti-Christ Afterall?

Ben Smith uncovers this supporter-organized Obama event: We can’t wait for HRC to see the light on her own, we need to begin praying for her and her supporters now. Please commit to praying for them daily to 1) stop trying to hurt the Obama’s and the Democratic party. 2) Pray God will speak to [...]

The Batman

Perhaps you’ve heard about cable asshat Glenn Beck’s assertion that “The Dark Knight” is a conservative parable endorsing torture and warrantless wiretapping, among other things. The good people of Think Progress took it upon themselves to call Sen. Pat Leahy’s office for a comment, as the liberal senator is apparently a bit of Batman fanboy [...]

Will Bush Stay Silent In China About The Sudanese Genocide?

President Bush is going to the Olympics in Beijing, even though both Barack Obama and John McCain say his visit sends the wrong message about China’s disturbing human rights record. On Wednesday, in Thailand, Bush tried to address these concerns: I have spoken clearly and candidly and consistently with China’s leaders about our deep concerns [...]
