The Nuclear Power Question

ON THE PHL TARMAC–The McCain’s campaign to label Barack Obama bad for America’s energy future came to suburban Philadelphia today–to a label making company called the National Label Company. They make it all: The labels for Suave Shampoo and the labels for Vaseline Petroleum Jelly.

Said McCain, “Unfortunately, Barack Obama continues to oppose offshore drilling. He continues to oppose the use of Nuclear Power. . . . Those misguided policies would result in higher energy costs to American families and business, and increased dependence on foreign oil. We’re not going to achieve energy independence by inflating out tires.”

Okay, nice zinger at the end. (Get it? More air, as in hot air? Ha. Um. Ha.) But what about the nuclear power thing? Does Obama oppose the “use of nuclear power”? No. But he is more cautious about expanding nuclear (which would require significant federal spending, say most analysts) than McCain.

Says Obama, “I don’t think that we can take nuclear power off the table.”

Now the plane is taking off. A biker rally awaits.
