Commentators on my AFL-CIO posts earlier this week (this is for you, Elvis) asked what Obama and Clinton were saying on the trail in Pennsylvania. Most of the talk was about jobs, creating them, bringing them back or preventing them from leaving. I just posted this story on time.com about how Obama and Clinton may sound different — he says, ‘Let’s face it many manufacturing jobs are gone for good,’ and she promises to bring some of them back — but really their plans are virtually identical. The scenario is a bit similar to the jobs debate between McCain and Romney in Michigan, though their solutions were vastly different from one another. The question is: will people in Pennsylvania appreciate Obama’s straight talk? They certainly didn’t in Ohio but this time around he has more time to explain the nuances.
