Edwards Presses On

Just in case anyone was starting to believe the rumors, it seems John Edwards has no intention of dropping out this Saturday. From a press release this afternoon:

***MEDIA ADVISORY***

EDWARDS TO VISIT FEBRUARY FIFTH STATES AND DISCUSS HIS PLANS TO MAKE SURE OUR GOVERNMENT WORKS FOR WORKING FAMILIES AND THE MIDDLE CLASS

Edwards will visit Georgia, Missouri and Tennessee to talk about his plans to fight for hard-working families like the ones he grew up with Chapel Hill, North Carolina – Following the South Carolina primary, Edwards will travel to Georgia, Tennessee and Missouri to meet with voters and discuss his plans to make sure our government works for working families and the middle class, not just special interests. From guaranteeing universal health care to creating good jobs and enacting trade deals that help workers, not just big multinational corporations, Edwards will take on entrenched interests and fight for working and middle class families. On Sunday, January 27th, Edwards will hold a community event in Dublin, Georgia, and on Monday, January 28h, Edwards will be making stops in Chattanooga and Nashville, Tennessee, as well as Springfield, Missouri.

“Powerful entrenched interests are standing in the way of the change our country desperately needs,” said Edwards. “We need to stand up for the middle class and American jobs before it’s too late. Saving the middle class is going to be an epic battle, and that’s a fight I was born for. I know that if we stand together, we can take back our country. We can build the One America we all believe in.”

The campaign also announced a tv ad buy in Oklahoma. And in case anyone is laboring under the misconception that he’s broke, the campaign announced today they raised $3 million in the first 25 days of January and had the largest single fundraising day online, $230,000, yesterday.

Rick Santorum Wants to Fight ‘The Dangers Of Contraception’

Candidates often say things when polling in the single digits that come back to haunt them when they start leading the polls. Last October, Rick Santorum gave an interview with an Evangelical blog called Caffeinated Thoughts, in which he said contraception is “not okay,” and that this would be a public policy issue he would tackle as President. In particular, he said he would “get rid of any idea that you have to have abortion coverage or contraceptive coverage” as a government policy. Start watching the following video at 17:55.

Occupy the Regulatory Open Comment Period!

There’s nothing “wrong” with protests built around placard-hoisting and park-squatting, but Occupy the SEC is definitely doing something right with its radically different tack. The OWS-offshoot has submitted a 325-page letter to federal financial regulatory agencies on the Volcker Rule, a controversial measure designed to prohibit banks from proprietary trading, or making investments with their own dollars rather than their customers’, that was passed as part of the Dodd-Frank financial reform law.
