Ace reporter Juliet Eilperin catches McCain out on a demonstrable falsehood:
“Everybody claims they don’t like Abba, but they sold more records than anybody else in the world,” he asserted. (Some reporters questioned this assertion; Post research editor Alice Crites notes that Abba has sold 370 million albums, which is fewer than Elvis and the Beatles.)
The back and forth became rather testy: reporters also contended that anyone who’s “musical education ended,” as McCain insisted, “in 1967,” could not possibly have heard of the 70s supergroup, much less be a fan. Eventually, a McCain aide jumped in to calm the fracas: “Stop being argumentative and unprofessional with the candidate.”
