Renzi Gets His Due

The news that Ariz Congressman Rick Renzi is in a whole lot of trouble with the feds reminded me that this was the same Renzi who ran what may have been the scuzziest negative ads of the 2006 campaign against attorney Ellen Simon–the ad linked Simon to the Massachusetts ACLU’s attempt to protect the North American Man Boy Love Association’s (NAMBLA) freedom of speech. (Simon was apparently an ACLU member in Cleveland and had nothing to do with the case). And then there’s this fascinating linkage with another Republican in trouble:

U.S. Rep. John Doolittle made a similar [ACLU-NAMBLA] connection to
his California opponent, who is an ACLU member.

Doolittle is also being investigated by the Feds.

Why Obama’s Re-Election Fortunes Are Looking Up

President Obama’s performance in head-to-head matchups with his Republican competitors, especially Mitt Romney, have dramatically improved in recent weeks. In a survey conducted by the Pew Research Center for People & the Press, Obama went from being tied with Romney in trial heats last fall to holding an eight-point lead in the fresh batch of data released this week. The turnaround was even faster in the New York Times/CBS News poll, which found Obama trailing Romney by two points in January and up by six this week. The reasons might not be immediately apparent.

Rick Santorum Wants to Fight ‘The Dangers Of Contraception’

Candidates often say things when polling in the single digits that come back to haunt them when they start leading the polls. Last October, Rick Santorum gave an interview with an Evangelical blog called Caffeinated Thoughts, in which he said contraception is “not okay,” and that this would be a public policy issue he would tackle as President. In particular, he said he would “get rid of any idea that you have to have abortion coverage or contraceptive coverage” as a government policy. Start watching the following video at 17:55.
