Insert Bombing Pun Here

After a mixed reception to Stephen Colbert’s performance at the WHCA dinner last year, the association is giving new meaning to the word “safe” by choosing as its entertainment this year one “Rich Little.” First, apparently he is still alive. Who knew? But he’s not alive enough to cause anything more than a titter. He apparently was funny around the time that this guy “Carson” hosted the Tonight Show. Also, he’s Canadian, and you know how they like to please: “I won’t even mention the word ‘Iraq.’”

Say this for the WHCA: They’re a quick study. Bush did a whole routine about WMDs at the RTCA dinner in 2004 and he’s still making Iraq jokes.

That “surge” idea is gets us laughing every time.

The effort is textbook negative politics, from the sympathetic white working class steel men bemoaning their lost careers to the talk about “values” and the shots of lonely industrial wastelands left by the collective failure of Romney, Bain and GST.
