The Dog Ate My Vote Work

Drudge has already had some fun today with the 110th Congress’s inability to keep even banker’s hours.

Co-blogger Karen Tumulty reports from the Hill that it’s not just the representatives (or, as some like to call them, “interns”) that are playing hooky during their first week of school. Only 88 senators managed to make it to the floor for the august body’s very first vote, a ceremonial matter honoring the late President Ford. “The Dirty Dozen” who missed it, says KT, includes:

Lamar Alexander (R-TN)
Joe Biden (D-DE)
Sam Brownback (R-KS)
Elizabeth Dole (R-NC)
Judd Gregg (R-NH)
Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX)
Daniel Inouye (D-HI)
Tim Johnson (D-SD) (the only excused absence)
Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ)
John McCain (R-AZ)
Bernie Sanders (I-VT) (apparently came running in five minutes too late. “E” for effort!)
George Voinovich (R-OH)

A surprising number of presidential wannabes already slacking on their elected duties, and the R’s seem to be signalling that they can continue to “do nothing” even in the minority. — Ana Marie Cox
